Second Reading 1 Corinthians 12:3b7, 1213

Brothers and sisters:No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord;there are different workings but the same Godwho produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spiritis given for some benefit.

As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.

Gospel John 20:1923

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,Jesus came and stood in their midstand said to them, "Peace be with you."When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.

The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.As the Father has sent me, so I send you."

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."

First Reading Acts 2:111

When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the skya noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spiritand began to speak in different tongues,as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language.

They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God."

Responsorial Psalm 104:1, 24, 2931, 34 R. (cf. 30) Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the

face of the earth.

Pastor’s Page

Dear Parishioners,

As of Wednesday May 16, Mr. Chris Westfall is no longer an employee of St. Stephen Catholic Parish. During this transition as we seek a new Music Director, as pastor I ask for your patience and understanding. We will be forming a search committee for the new director and hopefully it will not be a long process. During this period we hope to continue to provide music during our liturgical celebrations with the assistance of our associate music director and volunteers. I thank Mr. Westfall for his service to our community and wish him the best in the future.

Fr. Dermot

P entecost is upon us and our Easter season draws to an end. This truly is a blessed time of year, let us open our hearts to the Spirit’s action and see

where the Lord is leading us. The Action of the Holy Spirit is always so evident at his time of year and this Saturday saw another three men (Fr. Tim Williford, Fr. Lou Turcotte and Fr. Kyle Bell) consecrated for the service of God’s people in St. Petersburg, through priestly ministry.

I am coming up to my 18th anniversary as a priest. It is always amazing for me to reflect back and see how God can even use sinners to do His work, God’s mercy for me and each and every one of you is immense. The past 18 years have been filled with the privilege of helping people discover God’s will in their lives, sharing the beautiful gifts of the sacraments with them and continuing to allow Him to change my heart to become more like His. The hardest thing about being a priest is knowing that if I upset someone, then they’ll blame the Church. Please remember, your faith is not based on me nor any other priest, but on the love that Christ has for you. At times over the past 18 years, there has been moments of frustration, but these have been far outnumbered, by the joys that I have experienced.

Can we truly enjoy the beauty of the good times if we have never experienced the troubled times?

I have been blessed to be able to walk the journey with so many different kinds of people, some so far along the road of holiness that they are the living saints among us; others who are still timid about trusting Christ fully. There is one thing I feel that almost all of us share no matter where we are in our faith journey; we want to be happy and have a peaceful conscience.

Enjoy this beautiful feast of Pentecost and celebrate your love with your family and friends, we never know how long we have with each other. No matter where life takes you or what life throws at you always remember: God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

Thank you for all that you do for me as your pastor, God Bless

Saying Good Bye!

Listen, O my son, to the teachings of your master, and turn to them with the ear of your heart. (Pro RB) This is the first line in the Rule of St. Benedict. For those that do not know me, I am Gregory Visca, and I have been a parishioner of St. Stephen for the past three years and have been working as a Facility Staff member for the past two years.

Currently I am discerning a call to the monastic way of life by living out the Rule of St. Benedict. St. Benedict was a monk in the sixth century and is considered the father of western monasticism. For those that do not know, a monk is one who takes vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience just like every other religious order but the main difference is that they live in community at a monastery/abbey/priory, unlike friars like Dominicans or Franciscans who are sent out among the people to carry out their particular charism. I enter into the novitiate or novice year at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on July 1st. It is a year primarily dedicated to discernment: whether this is truly the life that a new monk might be called to. “Novice” means “new man”, and at the monastery that is exactly what I will be. I will receive a black habit (robes like a priest) and a new name from the Archabbot. I will no longer be Gregory Visca, but Brother (Insert New Name Later) Visca.

I would appreciate your prayers; and my dear brothers and sisters in Christ be assured of my prayers for you and the entirety of St. Stephen Parish. I will not have a cell phone or access to email or anything of the sort while I am a novice. I am able to receive letters, and for those that have been asking, I can receive an occasional gift. For those that want to remain in contact, my address there is: St. Vincent Archabbey 300 Fraser Purchase Rd, Latrobe, PA 15650. I will get my new name to the office as soon as I can upon finding it out in early July. Feel free to approach me and ask whatever questions you may have, and I will be ecstatic to answer them. Until we meet again, I will see you in the Eucharist and I humbly remain

Your servant in Christ,

Gregory Visca
