Parishioners may now attend Masses
Everyone is still dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. If you are healthy, we invite you to come to church. Please remember you are safest at home. Fr. O’Brien has added a 1:30 p.m. Low Mass with Organ to accommodate those who want a smaller crowd at a Latin Mass. If you are vulnerable or not feeling well, please remain at home.
General Guidelines for Mass Attendance:
• We are still dispensed from Sunday Mass obligation, so if you are compromised in any way, feel ill or have been in contact with someone who has been ill, please stay home.
• Please bring your own disinfecting wipes and sanitizer. • We recommend wearing a mask during Mass. If you choose to
receive Communion, please remove the mask. • Please maintain social distancing at all times, especially during
Communion. Pews are roped off every other and if possible, please sit 6’ off center aisle.
• As people depart from Mass, social distancing must be observed and social gatherings are not allowed in Reynolds Hall or on the sidewalk in front of church.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle,
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

A Prayer for All Beloved Priests
As we pray this prayer, please pray for Sylvester Ugbada, Luis Carlos Duarte and John Daniel Yike who will be
ordained at St. Louis Cathedral on May 30th. As always, pray for Fathers O’Brien, Roux, Farge, Saunders, Klores,
Bozant & Melcher
O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep Thy priests within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.
Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Thy Sacred Body.
Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with Thy Precious Blood.
Keep pure and unworldly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood.
Let Thy Holy Love surround them from the world's contagion.
Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here and their everlasting crown hereafter.
Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us: obtain for us numerous and holy priests. † Amen
On this great feast of Pentecost, I bring to you another gem from the treasury of the Church’s liturgical texts. Around the medieval period, it was very common for the faithful to compose poetic texts to supplement the scripture readings and orations of the Mass. Many of these texts found their way into the Roman Missal, (or the equivalent of the time). Eventually, there were so many sequences that most feast days had a sequence attached to it. Wanting to return to more ancient texts, the Council of Trent reduced the number of sequences. By early 20th century, only five remained: for Easter, Pentecost, Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Sorrows, and the Requiem Mass. The liturgical reform following Vatican II further reduced these by removing the sequence from the Requiem, and making optional the sequences of Corpus Christi, and Our Lady of Sorrows. I hope the text and translation of the Pentecost sequence below can aid your prayer and reflection on today’s feast of the birthday of the Church. May the poetic entreaties of this ancient prayer to the Holy Spirit serve as a model for us today, as, from our depths, we cry out, “Come, Holy Spirit.” ~Fr. O’Brien
Veni, Sancte Spiritus, et emitte caelitus lucis tuae radium. Veni, pater pauperum, veni, dator munerum, veni, lumen cordium. Consolator optime, dulcis hospes animae, dulce refrigerium. In labore requies, in aestu temperies, in fletu solatium. O lux beatissima, reple cordis intima tuorum fidelium.
Come, thou Holy Spirit, come, and from thy celestial home shed a ray of light divine! Come, thou Father of the poor! Come, thou Source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine! Thou, of comforters the best; thou, the soul's most welcome guest; sweet refreshment here below; in our labour, rest most sweet; grateful coolness in the heat; solace in the midst of woe. O most blessèd Light divine, shine within these hearts of thine, and our inmost being fill! Where thou art not, man hath nought, nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness pour thy dew; wash the stains of guilt away; bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore and confess thee, evermore in thy sevenfold gift descend; give them virtue's sure reward give them thy salvation, Lord; give them joys that never end. (Edward Caswall translation)
