Welcome
Greeting
Kia noho a Ihowa kia koutou. May God be with you.
Ma Ihowa koe e manaaki. May God bless you.
Call to Worship (Psalm 46: 1-3, 6-11)
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in distress.
Though the earth trembles,
and mountains slide into the sea,
we will not give in to fear.
Waters rise and roar,
mountains shake at their surging;
the God of hosts is with us--
our stronghold, the God of Israel.
Nations are in chaos. Kingdoms fall.
God's voice resounds. The earth melts.
Yahweh is with us;
the God of Israel is our stronghold.
God has stopped wars -
breaking bows, splintering spears,
burning shields with fire.
"Be still and know that I am God."
The Most High is with us;
our stronghold is the God of Israel.
Let us worship God.
Hymn “Sing to the Lord a joyful song” (Gonfalon Royal) CH4 184
words John Samuel Bewley Monsell (1811-75) © 2005 Church Hymnal
music Percy Carter Buck (1871-1947) © Oxford University Press. Reproduced by permission
1 Sing to the Lord a joyful song,
lift up your hearts, your voices raise;
to us God’s gracious gifts belong,
to God our songs of love and praise.
2 For life and love, for rest and food,
for daily help and nightly care,
sing to the Lord, for God is good,
and praise God’s name, for it is fair.
3 For strength to those who on God wait
the truth to prove, God’s will to do,
sing to our God, for God is great,
trust in God’s name, for it is true.
4 For joys untold, that from above
cheer those who love God’s sweet employ,
sing to our God, for God is love;
exalt God’s name, for it is joy.
5 Sing to the Lord of heaven and earth,
whom angels serve and saints adore,
the Father, Son, and Spirit blest,
to whom be praise for evermore. Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness E te whanau … we are God’s beloved people.
Thanks be to God

Hymn “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire” (French [Dundee]) CH4 546/81(i)
words James Montgomery (1771-1854) © 2005 Church Hymnary Trust
melody from Scottish Psalter, 1615
1 Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
unuttered or expressed,
the motion of a hidden fire
that trembles in the breast.
2 Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
the falling of a tear,
the upward glancing of an eye,
when none but God is near.
3 Prayer is the simplest form of speech
that infant lips can try;
prayer the sublimest strains that reach
the Majesty on high.
4 Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath,
the Christian’s native air;
our watchword at the gates of death,
we enter heaven with prayer.
5 Prayer is not made by us alone:
the Holy Spirit pleads,
and Jesus, on the eternal throne,
for sinners intercedes.
6 O Christ, by whom we come to God,
the Life, the Truth, the Way,
the path of prayer yourself have trod,
Lord, teach us how to pray.

words Edith Margaret Clarkson (b. 1915) © 1960 Hope Publishing Company. Used by permission
music Richard Redhead (1820-1901) © Church Hymn Tunes, 1853
1 For your gift of God the Spirit,
with us, in us, always true,
pledge of life and hope of glory,
Saviour, we would worship you.
2 Spirit in creation's dawning
brooded o'er the pathless deep,
still across our nature's darkness
moves to wake our souls from sleep.
3 Spirit here the living author,
wakes to life the sacred word,
reads with us the Bible story
and reveals our risen Lord.
4 Spirit here who works within us,
teaching rebel hearts to pray;
she whose fervent intercessions
rise for us both night and day.
5 Fill us with your grace and goodness,
God the Father, Spirit, Son;
in us, through us, now and always,
may your perfect will be done.
Prayers of Thanksgiving and for Others
concluding with…
Our Father in heaven
Hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
Now and forever:
AMEN

Hymn “Live into hope” (Truro) GtG 772/CH214(i) words Jane Parker Huber (1926-2008) © 1980 Jane Parker Huber
music Thomas Williams Psalmodia Evangelica, 1789
1 Live into hope of captives freed,
of sight regained, the end of greed.
The oppressed shall be the first to see
the year of God's own jubilee!
2 Live into hope. The blind shall see
with insight and with clarity,
removing shades of pride and fear,
a vision of our God brought near.
3 Live into hope of liberty,
the right to speak, the right to be,
the right to have one's daily bread,
to hear God's word and thus be fed.
4 Live into hope of captives freed
from chains of fear or want or greed.
God now proclaims our full release
to faith and hope and joy and peace.
Benediction and Threefold Amen
