of the horseshoe which I sold to buy these apples.” The son understood his father’s

message.

Doing something to save the environment is not only for adults to think about.

Teenagers can make a difference too. The following tips are quick and easy to do.

Turn off the tap after using it. Don’t leave the water running while you step

away to get something. Sometimes you might leave the tap on while you brush your

teeth. You may not realise how much water is being wasted when you do this. Fill a

cup with water and use it to rinse your mouth.

Another simple tip is to bring your own bag when you go shopping. Ask the

cashier to put things in your bag and don’t accept plastic bags. You should also get

into the habit of using reusable water bottles so you can use it again in the future.

you give to students. We think you counsel very well. Science is my favourite subject

and my ambition I to be an engineer. I understand there are different types of

engineers. Can you please tell me about the various types?

Dear Engineer-to-be,

Basically, an engineer is a person who designs, makes or looks after machines or

buildings. The total knowledge needed to do so much work on so many kinds of

machines and buildings is very great.

It is too much for one person to learn all these things. Therefore, the

knowledge is divided into separate, smaller branches. I will describe three types of

engineer here.

A civil engineer works on roads, bridges or houses. To build the Penang

Bridge, the North-South Expressway and the Petronas Twin Towers, the government

employed many civil engineers. Many more are now working on the LRT.

An automobile engineer works on cars. For example, PROTON, the company

which manufactures Proton cars, hires many such engineers. Some of them design

new models of Proton cars. Others work on the many processes involved in the

manufacture of a car.

Aircraft engineers help maintain aircraft. They are responsible for the engines,

frames, and electrical instruments of aircrafts.

I hope I had shown you how interesting an engineer’s work is. Study hard and

you will surely be able to be an engineer.
