Under the new policy, locals with anillness verified by a physician can file

with the fire department. Once the firedepartment is aware of the residentscondition, any neighbors living within 400feet will not be issued burn permits. Ifsomeone within the 12-acre area alreadyhas a permit to burn, it will be revoked.

Those benefiting from the policy mustbe willing to publicly share their illness,Lohmeier said.
