General Safety Discussion: What We Can All Do To Make Us Safer!
FBC Fellowship Hall 10 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
• February is Annie Armstrong month. Pam Miller will be leading the campaign for raising funds for our Annie
Armstrong offering. The theme for the month is LoveStrong and she will be offering “love” bundles to
purchase. Our scripture focus comes from 1 Corinthians 16:14 - “Let all you do be done with love.”
• We have planned a Missions Fair for Saturday, March 9. All members of FBC are invited to come and find
out what is happening with each of our new “Gates” and learn of opportunities in which they would like to
participate. Our Gate Leaders will be decorating their tables and inviting people from the community to join
us for sweet rolls and coffee and to possibly offer ideas on how they would like for our Gates to service the
community. All men, women, youth and children are invited to attend and join the missions team.
Homebound Ministry
Please remember in prayer our homebound members. List of addresses are available in the church office if you feel led to connect with them.

A Great Foundation …
We should soon have a contractor for the reconstruction of the sanctuary and education building! As I write this, our architect is in the process of vetting the apparent low bidder. He is working with that contractor on critical issues like ensuring they have indeed accounted for everything in their bid, they understand the totality of the project, and they have properly divided the cost of the project between our responsibility and the insurance company’s responsibility.
Once we do that and get approval from the insurance company (we’ve been told that can take 30 days), the Building Team will be ready to inform the church of our cost projection, sign a contract, and get workers here to get started! It’s been a long time coming, but we relatively soon will see work commencing! It’s exciting!
We will soon be ramping up many other parts of the process. We have an organ builder, Shantz Organ Company from Orrville, OH, with whom we will sign a contract once we have a projected time line from our contractor. We have bids from stained glass window companies. We are beginning to talk to pew and church furnishing companies! After what seemed like
forever, things may start moving quickly!
But of course, when we know how much our responsibility is, we will figure out have to pay for it. For months, the working assumption of the Building Team has been a budget of $850,000 with $350,000 coming from the Building Fund and savings and $500,000 from a loan. Our Capital Campaign committee is planning a retire the debt campaign after we know the actual numbers.
As we move towards the project, the financial health of the church is excellent. In an era where many churches struggle to come close to making their budget, we have made budget for the 10th time in the last 11 years. We even made our budget during the Great Recession when many churches saw drastic cutbacks in resources and programming. Because of your faithfulness and the excellent stewardship and leadership of the Finance Team, we have continued to do well.
In 2018, we had budget receipts of $436,949 for a budget of $434,136. Moreover, we limited budget expenditures to $393,256.37, thereby ending the year with an overage for the year of $43,691.74. The Finance Team suggests we use this to pay for the new roof on the fellowship hall building. We also had $73,741 given to the Building Fund, although we have not actively done fund raising!
Thank you for your commitment to our shared mission. God has been faithful to us and you have been faithful in giving. The next few years will call us to sacrifice again as we move towards our dream of a new sanctuary and renovated education building. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
As we move forward, there is a great reality we need to keep in mind. It’s the issue of the great foundation. Yes, there is the foundation that some brothers and sisters toiled to create and fund in 1924. They built a great foundation – literally and figuratively – for us. They almost lost it all during the Great Depression, but they persevered.
We also have a great foundation today. First, we have the literal one they built years ago. We have a strong financial foundation going into this project. We have a foundation of many dedicated folks on the Building Team and the sub-committees. We have the foundation of a wonderful, loving church family. But, most of all, we have the same ultimate foundation of that group from 1924 and the group that built the education building in 1954: “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11

Hymn Festival and Hymnal Reveal Weekend
March 2-3, 2019
The Music and Worship Subcommittee of the Building Team invites the entire church to come for a weekend of hymn singing and exploration. Hymnologist, Dr. C. Michael Hawn, will teach a variety of sessions over the weekend, culminating in a Hymn Festival on Sunday morning. Dr. Hawn is a retired church music professor from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Perkins School of Theology of Southern Methodist University.
We will offer one session on Saturday evening, March 2, to hear what Dr. Hawn had called the “Seven Streams of Hymnody.” On Sunday, our Music and Worship Subcommittee will reveal our recommendation of a new hymnal for First Baptist and spend a little time with Dr. Hawn exploring the merits and content of the book.
We hope you will come and join us for this fantastic event!

Journey through the Bible
The season of Lent starts Wednesday, March 6. This
forty days (plus Sundays) before Easter is a time to
focus on what our Savior did for us. This year, we are
inviting the entire church to read passages together.
We are working to pick 20 Old Testament and 20
New Testament passages to give us a sweep of the
Bible together.
We will have more details closer to the season, but we
ask everyone to be in prayer as we move together to
Journey through the Bible as we journey with Jesus to
the cross!

Children’s Church Launching Sunday, February 3
Our Children’s Ministry Team and Abby Jones, our children's minister, are launching a new children’s worship on February 3. During the sermon time, the children will exit the sanctuary and spend time learning at their level.
We need volunteers to help assist. Abby will lead it but we will need another adult each week. If you are willing to help 1-2 times each year, contact Abby. Please note that assistants will not miss the entire worship service!
