PENTanzania What has been going on? 01 ISSUE January - March 2016 www.pentanzania.or.tz PEN INFO SPOT NEWSLETTER We began this Year by strategizing on our KEY activities for the next 12 months and more so writing of our Strategic plan for the next five Years. We are grateful to have a few committed team members who invest their money and time effortless to make the organization grow and achieve its desired goals. Special Thank you note to Mr. Hamidu Kigoda, Ms. Ruth Kallonga and Mr. Sharnel Deo. In this first Quarter PEN Tanzania resumed back in training Kijitonyama Primary school kids on basic computer course famously known as “Tehama” and effective communication life skill lesson where we started with class 6 in a renovated School Computer Lab Class. The students are now learning on Microsoft word or programu andishi, where they are taught on its usage theoretically and practically. Thanks to the headmaster for his passion and efforts to reno- vate the class. The classes usually take place on every Tuesday and Friday. We were also excited to open a branch in Zanzibar Island where we managed to conduct two workshops with our members, November training workshop was on Organisation Management and January workshop we empow- ered them with a Training of Trainers (ToT) course and entrepreneurship skills theory & practical, we were able to reach out to 20 youths for the whole week . PEN Tanzania through its major program of SHE Inspire Tz which aims at empowering girls and young women had an amazing opportunity to work with Kigamboni Community Center (KCC) and Apps & Girls Organisation. We conducted a training workshop on Reproductive Health and life skills to young girls’ women and men, where we had an amazing time learning on dif- ferent roles of gender and sex, discovering their responsibilities in taking care of their own bod- ies, how they can make good decisions as they grow up and we talked about behavior change and HIV/AIDS. Upcoming Events

• Opening and Fundraising Ceremony of our Youth Hub Center In the last week of April 2016, we expect to hold a short opening Ceremony of our Youth Hub Center where we aim at inviting

the District Commissioner of Kinondoni (to be confirmed), Ward Executive Officer (WEO) and other Local government officials

residing at Kijitonyama. We will also have invited guests from different Companies and NGO’s, without forgetting youths and the

surrounding community.

• TEHAMA (ICT) Students ClubsIn April we will open ICT Clubs to five primary schools in Kinondoni District. These memebers in our clubs will benefit from our

Moble computer lab trainings and also there will be ICT Competitions between the schools.

• Menstrual Health Management (Training of Trainers Workshop)Through our SHE inspire program we have prepared a training of trainers wprkshop in order to have more trainers in menstrual

health management and this workshop will take place on 24-26 May 2016 at PEN Youth Hub Center

• 28 May Menstrual Hygiene Day Parade In this international day we have organised an Awareness Parade and A flash Mob dance for advocacy purpose and we will

include the event with a small concert and a talk from inspiring women in our community on menstrual Hygiene issues.

• African Child Day 2016On 16th June 2016 is an African Child Day, as part of celebrating that day we shall have a small event with the kids where by

we shall have games, music, painting, learning, giving presents to pupils etc the event is open and everyone is invited to come

and share with these angels.

Pen Tanzania

PEN Tanzania has been doing some renovations on a build-ing which the leadership of Kijitonyama primary school rent-ed to the organisation and this building will be used a Youth Hub Center which will also-have a Community library and Computer Lab. At the Centre Youths from different primary and Secondary schools will get a chance to be members at an

affordable fee and have access to use our facility and receive close mentorship on different life skills issues and get trainings on Communication skills, digital farming (Agri-tech program), Social entrepreneur-ship skills both theoretically and practically, Art and Drama classes for kids, Debates, Health Management (HVI/AIDS, Menstrual Health)

Despite of the many challenges we face in running the center like electricity issue, insufficient computers and books, library chairs and tables, we want to express our sincere thank you note to our supporters from Longhorn Publishers and Oxford University Press for donating some books which have been of great help!

In as much as PEN Tanzania tries to do its activities through own funds, yet we still need huge support from friends and well- wishers, angel Investors, and donor support to achieve our desired goals in 2016. As it is said, Unity is power, PEN Tanzania needs anybody who is a development activists to join us in volunteering their time, money, materials, equipment’s and other resources that we can use to empower our children, youths and women in various sectors so that we can join hands in fighting against illiteracy and poverty in the country.
