Have you ever wondered where yourrecycled bottles go?

For most of us, the thought never crosses our minds; we just put the bottle in the recycling

bin and move on. But those bottles matter in the world. They're an excellent source of plastic that can be recycled, and the "polymer" they contain can be used in a wide range of products overand over again.

When two chemicals are combined at a very high temperature, they form a new chemical known as a polymer. Plastics are polymers and there are a wide variety of options. The

chemical name for the polymer used in our Ekocloth™ range is Polyethylene Terephthalate, or PET. PET is used for making everything from umbrellas, polyester jackets and trousers, to critical medical equipment. And of course one of the largest uses is for soft drinks bottles.

Even today most fabrics are made of virgin PET, or plastics that have never been used before. However, at Pegasus Textiles, the environment is very important to us in our production of excellent quality products. In 2010, we launched our PET recycled fabrics range (Ekocloth™) on to the UK market after years of extensive research and development and testing in China.

At this point the process begins to be exactly like regular PET fabric manufacturing. The recycled plastic chips are emptied into a vat and heated, then forced through spinnerets just like virgin

polyester would be. Then the recycled PET thread or yarn can be used either alone or together with other fibers to create a very wide variety of fabrics.

The making ofrecycledfabrics

The process of making recycled fabrics is very similar to making

new fabrics with a twist.

The first step is the collection of used PET containers. We buy bales of recycled bottles from vendors or from municipal recycling projects.

The bales of bottles are emptied onto a conveyor belt and are first sorted by colour, separating green one from clear ones. Then the bottles are visually inspected and non PET caps, bases or any foreign objects are removed, with the result that only PET bottles remain. These are then cleaned and crushed into tiny chips. Chips from green bottles stay green, and become yarn that will be dyed a dark colour.

BETTER QUALITYEkocloth™ has stronger tensile strength while maintaining all the qualities of virgin polyester such as durability and strength.

ENERGY SAVINGAs Ekocloth™ is made from recycled PET bottles, its manufacture consumes much less energy than virgin polyester. To produce one tonne of Ekocloth™ we use 6 tonnes less fossil fuel than virgin polyester yarn with savings of up to 80% of energy use.

LESS POLLUTIONBecause Ekocloth™ has a reduced need of dyes and fixing agents, its production emits far less carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide.

MORE ECO -FRIENDLYMaking polyester from recycled PET bottles reduces the amount of plastic that is otherwise buried in landfills: for every metre of polyester fabric made of 80% recycled PET, eight plastic beverage bottles are kept out of landfills; 25 soda bottles go into each jacket made from the recycled fabric!

Do not measure over clothing when measuring the body.

Check whether the garment for which you are measuring is sized in inches or centimetres.

Use the same unit of measurement when measuring and placing your order.

For greater accuracy, ask someone else to measure you.

Take the measurement from the fullest part of your body.

Do not pull the tape too tight.
