Design ConceptDesign Concept Features • 3 distinct arc shaped steel framed structures interlinked by corridors which

will also have a steel core. The whole structure is encased by glass as can be seen in the image below.

• The basement will be constructed using reinforced concrete.• Large basement segmented into a gym/leisure suit, student bar and

disabled parking.

• Rear access from St Andrews road to basement and for disabled parking and deliveries.

Basement designBasement design• Pv panels placed in encasements on the roofs of the three structure.

• Underground tunnel linking the development to the main university site.

• The structure is going to be 8 stories high.• The basement will be constructed using reinforced concrete.

Japanese KnotweedProblems

•Highly invasive weed with the capabilities to expose weaknesses in buildings•Damage to foundations and the structure •Damage to road surfaces •Reduction in land value •A monoculture swamping out native vegetation

Methods of eradication

•Direct injection of a herbicide treatment •Carefully dig material containing knotweed•Incinerate•Bury on site

Possible Oil Tanks

Risks

Decommissioning of oil tanks Contamination within the soil A large amount of site clearance to remove all soil which may be

contaminated Expensive remedial works New incoming services to replace oil tanks can be very costly
