PRUMC Light on Peachtree Peachtree Road united methodist Church JUNE 2014 HELPING KIDS BE KIDS! This summer as our children are enjoying summer camps and vacations to the beach and the mountains, children in our city will have lots of time on their hands. Peachtree Road is able to provide camp scholarships to our own summer camps as well as Camp Glisson and others. Please “be a champ and send a child in need to camp” this summer! When your kids are purchasing new backpacks, pencils and binders for the start of the school year, thousands of children in Atlanta are counting on Peachtree Road to provide their back-to-school supplies. Nothing could be worse than starting the school year off on the wrong foot and feeling different because a child walks into class without new supplies. Be that child’s hero and help provide him or her with a new stocked backpack – only $25 will ensure the right start to a bright future! Many children in Atlanta depend on school breakfast and lunch, and during the summer months are often hungry. Any extra funds from our camp scholarship and backpack drives will be used to feed hungry Atlanta children. Our partnerships with Action Ministries “Smart Kids Smart Lunch” and the Agape Centers “F.I.T Camp” for boys and “GoGirlGo!” help get nutritious food to children in need during the summer months. Prayers for PeaceFor the past three years, the Prayers for Peace memorial has stood in honor of the men and women who have given their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Now that the war in Iraq is over, and the war in Afghanistan is coming to an end, the existing memorial will be taken down. To continue our prayers and remembrance, a beautiful banner has been created for our worship services and a new memorial will be placed in our columbarium. May each of us continue to pray for peace around the world and in our hearts.

Team Georgia

Right now, our Nation of Georgia mission team is “in-country” with 333 children and youth whom you and PRUMC support with your generosity and love. The mission trip is filled with activities and quality time with the children. The team holds Easter egg and scavenger hunts, science projects and “Project Runway.” They work on bridge-building, painting canvases for their walls, beads, balsa airplanes, games, Olympic Field Day competitions, choirs, mentoring and career counseling classes. At each of our 4 institutions, the children will perform and the team will award prizes. Fun & tender moments of love are had by all!

goodbYe lindleY!Dear PRUMC friends,

Recently I learned that “goodbye” is a saying that originated in the 16th century and is a contraction of “God be with you.” Since I realized that, I’ve loved the idea that I am exchanging blessings with others each time we say goodbye.

Saying goodbye to the wonderful people at PRUMC is looking different than I had imagined! Maternity leave started earlier than planned when Wesley Markell Curtis arrived on April 28, seven weeks early. Between welcoming our newest bundle of joy at the end of April, moving out of our house at the end of May, and relocating to Winston-Salem, NC, at the end of the summer, our family has been accused of seeing how many major transitions we can fit into one summer!

Mark is earning his PhD in August, and he has accepted a job as an assistant professor in the economics department at Wake Forest University. We are so proud of him and excited about this new chapter in our lives.

As I reflect on these past five years at Peachtree Road, I am filled with gratitude. I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of a church that takes the call to be the body of Christ seriously and that values people of all ages and stages of life. I cherish countless times of laughing and learning at Seasoned Saints programs, enjoying fellowship on Peachtree RoadTrips, and tapping my toes to the sounds of the Monday Morning Pops. I am grateful for the privilege of sharing in important moments in your lives, from walking precious babies down the aisle during baptisms to praying together in hospital rooms to remembering lives well lived at the graveside. I have witnessed God’s love and grace through my interactions with so many of you, and my family and I are grateful for the many ways you have supported us through challenging times and joyous times, especially as we celebrated Claire’s birth and now as we welcome baby Wesley.

I thank God every time I remember you, and I pray that you will continue to be vessels for God’s use in Atlanta and around the world!

God be with you!Love, Lindley, Mark, Claire, and Wesley Curtis
