International Day of PeaceA day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace. Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
Raising PEACE DayAs one of the main ideas of the Raising Peace project is to promote a culture of peace and human rights, we have also decided to celebrate 21st September in a special way. Proving the role of International Voluntary Service organisations as key players in the field of Peace and Human Rights Education, we’d like to gather all the volunteers from around the world with a common message of contributing to PEACE through VOLUNTEERING.A Message to the WorldWe have received a lot a beautiful testimonials of volunteering experience and postcards from all over the world sending us the peace message. On 21st September we shared them in social media in order to strengthen the visibility of the action.

FROM GRASSROOTS ACTIONS
TO GLOBALCAMPAIGNSPROMOTING PEACE& HUMAN RIGHTS
3
“Peace means being happy with who you are and being allowed to be yourself but not forgetting to care
about others”
Mellany - AFS Vlaarderen
“In this very precise moment I would define peace as a choice. The choice to discuss when disagreeing
instead of fighting off. The choice not to use any form of violence. The choice to emcompass that every
decision is to be seen in its global context with all its consequences.”
Laetitia - Solidarités Jeunesses
5
Océane - Nataté Mexico
“Peace is the reason why men and women necessary struggle to live together.”
“Being friend without discrimination will contribute to peace and human rights. There are so many
differences around the world. We have to try not to misunderstand each other. I think it’s the first step
that we can make peaceful world.”
Yukyeong - The Better World
8
Sergiu -Bogdan
“Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but rather the presence of harmony, understanding and respect between people. And among these the respect is, in
my opinion, the most important.”
Valentina - Solidarités Jeunesses
“Peace is very important in our life. And in my life too. If I have a good relationship with myself - it is
very healthy for me. So if we have peace everywhere we are happy!”
10
“It is important to bring people together, to talk about peace, to educate and to do concrete and efficient
things together - to build peace firstly inside, secondly in family and local reality and so step by step in whole
world.”
Alla - SFERA Movement
“Being able to participate in local communities where the people may or may not have met somebody from
outside their own culture and who may or may not travelled outside their communities. Where unity is created between people from all over the World on a small spot of the planet. This for me is Peace... This
contributes to breaking down all barriers and visions we may have of ‘the other’.”
Victoria - CCIVS
13
Shushan - HUJ
“For me peace is an inner and outer harmony, smilling children, proud parents, healthy grandparents,
willing friends, loving husband, unbending soldier, philantropic president.”
“I think the most important during a workcamp is friendship. I’ve met so many people and each meeting
was a gift for me.”
Hyewon - The Better World
16
“Volunteering has supported me in my own learning process that helped me on growing up and
understanding Peace and Human Rights through number of training courses, exchange projects I have attended within. And now I am contributing to Peace
and Human Rights by sharing my experience and encouraging people to learn by volunteering.”
Vu - SJ Vietnam
“Peace - being able to live together with all our differences.”
Ozgur - YAP Italy
18
“My best experience as a volunteer was a workcamp in Estonia. This experience could have contributed to peace since, at the end of the workcamp, we were all
very close to one another and we understood each other. These international people aren’t ‘foreigners’ to
me any longer.”
Zoé - Solidarités Jeunesses
“For me peace is respect for my fellow human being, freedem, security, unification of Men, solidarity, hope,
a piece of happiness...”
Edith - Solidarités Jeunesses
21
“Volunteering can teach you to respect all the people and that at the end we are all equal.”
Greta - Vir’Volt
“Volunteering: peace at first sight...”
