The Gospel of Matthew

Beginning with the season of Advent and continuing throughout the Christmas and Epiphany seasons, the gospel readings for each Sunday will come from the Gospel of Matthew .

I thought it might be fun to explore Matthew’s gospel more deeply during this time .

The Wednesday night Bible studies from January 15 to February 26, will focus on this

gospel . What is unique about Matthew’s story of Jesus? What are some of the

larger themes in this gospel? How does Matthew’s story of Jesus

teach us about what it means to be the church? These are a few of the questions we will

explore together .

The good news is there is much good news in Matthew . I hope that

you will join me to gather around the good news of this gospel: Jesus is God’s promised one; Jesus is “God with us;” Jesus is with us always .

— Pastor Jim

Have a Healthy New Year

Changes for the Peace NurseryWe are happy to announce the addition of two new nursery helpers to our staff! Brianna Brolin and Brooke Kyllo have agreed to help us care for your children (infants – 3 years) on Sunday mornings between the hours of 9:30 and 11:45 . Brianna and Brooke are both high school students and have been trained by our Parish Nurse, Sondra Weinzierl, in basic care and safe practices in our nursery .

Beginning in January, the first time you bring your child to the nursery, parents will be asked to fill out a “Release and Information” form for our file . Each Sunday you bring your child to the nursery, you will be asked to sign in/sign out with the time you dropped off and picked up your child, note where in the building you will be during this time, leave a cell phone number to reach you, if necessary, and give the name of the person authorized to pick up your child . All of these new changes are intended to help you, your child and the nursery staff meet our goals for a safe, nurturing nursery . Please address any questions or concerns you have to Judy Lubben, who is supervising the nursery .

Call Committee UpdateThe call committee is excited to announce that we have submitted the ministry site profile! It was quite the process putting this document together but with the help of the congregation, we ended with a profile we are happy about and were excited to submit . The next step in this process is to wait for some names that match our needs for our church . In the meantime, we are developing our approach to the interview process . Thank you for your continued support as we move through this exciting process . If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact anyone in the call committee!
