IEEE: a group of interconnected loads and DistributedEnergy Resources (DER) with clearly defined electricalboundaries that acts as a single controllable entity withrespect to the grid. It can connect and disconnect from thegrid to enable operation in both grid-connected or islandmodes.

• To accumulate energy produced by large, less responsive thermal generation plants (also RE) and then re-dispatch it based on peak demand.
• Storage facilities were largely financed by arbitrage (buying energy at a low price and selling it at a higher price).
• Energy storage currently contributes to reliability, efficiency, power quality, transmission optimization, black-start functions, and support Demand Response (DR) function.
