Commodore’s Corner . . . greetings MYC Members!

Well we finally made it through what seemed like the longest and coldest winter in memory, including a

slow start to spring. It does seem that now we have warmer and drier weather to begin preparations for

summer boating and club activities. Fortunately, this past weekend brought enough sunshine to encour-

age our members to get outdoors participate at the club work day. The great weather and perhaps the

offer of a "free" lunch helped to make Saturday one of the best attended work days on record. The nu-

merous volunteers completed many tasks to bring the grounds and pool back to life. The pool is painted,

new mulch has been spread over many areas, and the club grounds have been groomed to perfection. A

huge round of applause and thanks should be extended to all the volunteers who participated.

Please extend a warm welcome to the many new members who have recently joined the club. You will see

many new faces at the club this year and I encourage the members to introduce yourself to each and

every new face you see.

Congratulations are in order for a few Milford Yacht Club members who have been successful on the race

course in the warmer climates. John Streicker with a crew including Tom Nolan and Bruce P. Kuryla won

their class at Charleston Race week in Charleston, SC.

Also, Josh Revkin with crew member Brian Ledbetter won their class in the very competitive Star Fleet at

the Star Western Hemisphere Championships in Miami. This is a very prestigious win and allows Josh to

move up in the Star Class rankings to #16 in the world.

Lastly, Laura and I would also like to thank everyone who attended the 2015 Commodore's Dinner Dance

on Saturday. It was an outstanding success with a wonderful meal, excellent entertainment and good

company.

Regards,

George

SAILING NEWS from your Fleet Captain Bob Colum Spring weather is fighting its’ way here but it has certainly been a long, cold winter and early spring season. Rest assured that MYC

sailing has been in full preparation mode while everyone huddles next to the fire place. There will be plenty of excitement this

summer whether you chose to cruise, race or simply want to learn to sail. MYC certainly has you covered!

Below find a synopsis of the MYC sailing calendar. You might consider signing up to help at one of the Star, PHRF or Optimist Invi-

tational regattas. It is a great learning experience and provides an opportunity to give back to the club.

Also, don’t forget about the Blessing of the Fleet on Father’s Day. This is an annual event that brings all the symbolism and pomp

and circumstance to our yacht club. Enjoy the procession of boats dressed to the “nines” as they travel up and down Milford

Harbor.

Of course, don’t forget the Volvo Ocean Race which has a stopover in Newport, RI. The event is a great opportunity to see the

boats and sailors that challenge each other, themselves and the oceans of the world for 9 months during their journey around the

globe. There is plenty to do in the Sailing Village throughout the event for young or old, sailor or not.

If you have any questions or want to get more information or register for any event please send an email to [email protected] See you all soon on and off the water. Bob Colum MYC Fleet Captain May
