This month we are beginning with a new event called “Meal with a Message”.

This premier social event was the brainstorm of the worship committee to

promote our rebirth of spirit and enthusiasm for the new year. It was decided that

instead of extending a Sunday service another hour the event should be a stand

alone get together. In true St. Francis spirit, the first thing we needed to decide

was what kind of food would compliment the message we heard at this years’

convention from our Bishop Michael Curry. We decided that we are going to

have breakfast with a full selection of anything you could want to eat followed

by a recording of Bishop Curry’s sermon to the diocese that was held at Boise in

October. On Saturday, January 6th breakfast will be ready at 9:00 followed by

the presentation and discussion, we will then be wrapping up early enough so

that you will have enough time to still go skiing or any other activities you might

be enjoying that day. Bishop Curry is an inspiring speaker and I encourage

everyone to mark your calendars for this new “Meal with a Message” event.

Please invite a friend, neighbor and family to join us.

It is not too early to start planning for our annual St. Francis fund raiser dinner.

“Come Fly With Me” will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 6:00pm. Once

again we will be having our famous spaghetti dinner, this year with a Salsa &

Latin music theme. St. Francis has been so generous in the past, giving to school

programs and community outreach requests, that we feel we need to continue

supporting our neighbors and friends through these dinners and our various other

ever expanding efforts. This dinner will be our principal fund raiser for the year.

Let’s get the word out to the community for this fun night of food and music for

the great causes we support all year long.

Bishop Curry speaks of “the Episcopal branch of the Jesus movement”. This

doesn’t mean we need to go out to convert our friends but it does give us the

opportunity to invite. These events are opportunities to invite, but we have

opportunities all day long if we just demonstrate the good news Jesus has shown

us. Send us now into the world in peace and grant us strength and courage to

love and served you.

God’s peace,

Rod

A Meal with a Message

Join us on Saturday, January 6th for the

St. Francis “A Meal with a Message”

event that will take place at 9:00am.

Breakfast will be served followed by the

showing of Bishop Curry’s sermon and

discussion held at the Diocesan Annual

Convention that was held from October

27th to 29th in Boise.

In Bishop Curry’s message he says

“Follow me and love will show you how

to become more than you ever dreamed

you could be. Follow me and I will help

you change the world from the

nightmare it often is into the dream

that God intends. Jesus came and

started a movement and we are the

Episcopal branch of the Jesus

movement”.

Come and follow St. Francis on the 6th

with this “Jesus Movement”, let Jesus

guide you to be a better you.

Volunteers will be needed to assist with

the breakfast preparation as well as the

set up for the event.

This year there was a tremendous

showing of those who expressed

interest in being part of their St.

Francis family. This support was

shown by many who signed up for

various committees in our parish.

At St. Francis our committees work

as teams, teams that not only work

with each other but with the Senior

Warden and Vestry as well. These

teams are a vital part of what makes

St. Francis function.

For our 2018 year the following

parishioners will be dedicating

themselves to their church family.

Paradise Point Summer Camp

Winter is here, snow is on the

ground and most of us here in

Teton Valley are thinking about

skiing, snowboarding and winter

sports. At the Diocesan office in

Boise Marty Beck is thinking about Paradise

Point Episcopal summer camp for kids and

families.

Located on beautiful Payette Lake and nestled

in the mountain valley of McCall, this Idaho

gem is loved by all who visit.

Paradise Point Summer Camp provides a life

changing experience for campers of all ages.

We have several summer camp options for

youth, teens and adults and all faith

backgrounds are welcome. All participants

enjoy freshly prepared, healthy meals and

challenging activities while having tons of fun!

Paradise Point fosters the perfect opportunity

for families, friends and youth to come

together in a fun, safe and spirit-filled

environment. Campers are forever

touched by God in this place of

beauty, joy, solitude and good

company.

Registration begins on January 8,

2018 for the summer season at camp.

Some of the camps that Paradise

Point will be offering this year are

Adrenaline, Fall Youth Event, Horse

Camp, Leadership Development,

Join us at 12:30 for some good food, fun

conversation and a lot of laughs.

This month Gayle Lien will demonstrate

tatting. Tatting is a technique for

handcrafting a particularly durable lace

from a series of knots and loops which

dates to the early 17th century.

If you have some tatting or knowledge of

tatting that you would like to share

please feel free to bring it to the

lunch.

Bring a dish to share if you can and

a bring a friend or just show up

alone and be prepared to eat!

All are welcome.

The next Eat and Meet will take place at

St. Francis on Tuesday, February 6th at

5:30pm.

Currently, the month of February does

not have a sponsor to host the event. If

you have a knack for organizing and for

planning dinners please call the church

office or speak with a member of Vestry.

A leader is needed for overseeing this

stewardship calling. If you would like to

help organize and run this event for the

year, we would love to hear from you,

this position is open to all.

Our Eat and Meet events are currently

held on the first Tuesday every other

month. A theme for each Eat and Meet

will be decided by the sponsor for that

month, or by a future leader, if no one

St. Francis Approved Vestry Minutes

October 10, 2017

Present: Rod Gust, Jim Steele, Cheryl Reinertsen, Monica Hoth, Sharon Froberg, Pete Oslund. A quorum having been achieved, Rod Gust called the meeting to order at 5:50 pm and gave the opening prayer. The minutes of the September 2017 meeting were amended to specify as required by the bank that Nancy Parisee is an authorized signer on the debit card for church related purchases. Amended minutes approved unanimously. Senior Warden’s report:

Due to schedule changes, our voting delegates to the Diocesan Convention will be Deb Adams, Rod Gust, Jim Rein and Ellen Rein.

As required by the bank, Sharon moved and Jim seconded a motion to remove Hope McKenzie from the authorized purchasers on the debit card. Passed unanimously.

Rod discussed several issues regarding our being a welcoming church. Included were ways to include new members and visitors, ways to involve children, and an improved internet presence. Monica shared a list of suggested programs and activities for families, especially those with young children, which had been generated by Nancy Parisee. Pete suggested children be allowed to carry the cross in the opening procession. There was discussion about having “occasional teachers” for Sunday School as defined as various parishioners who take turns on a volunteer basis every few months. Monica indicated a willingness to continue to manage our web site. She said that several people follow and comment on our Facebook posts.

Monica and Rod presented an initial proposal for updated desktop tower, operating system and color printer for the office. As there were no funds budgeted for this expense in this year, the topic was tabled pending a specific proposal with dollars attached to be considered for 2018’s budget.

Junior Warden’s report: As Clarke is temporarily away, there was no report. Treasurer’s Report:

Thanks to Jim and Ellen Rein for doing the annual audit required by the Diocese. Their report was unanimously approved.

Blue Bird had a few leftover pavers which they have donated to the Columbarium. One will be etched and installed to replace the erroneous Dempesy memorial. The etcher has been scheduled.

Blue Bird has also submitted to the Columbarium Committee a plan for expanding the paved area so that the Anne Williams memorial bench can be set in place permanently. Action pending.

On the recommendation of our professional accountant, substitute musicians will be paid as contractors not employees beginning January 2018.

Gardens: High Country Bloomers has completed the fall maintenance. Thanks to Dani Allred for donating many perennials from her stock! Bark has been refreshed as well. Thanks to Clarke and Rod for trimming the unsightly dead branches from the large evergreen near the Columbarium. Thanks to Rosemary Viets for planting the lilies!

Stewardship drive: a little slow in the beginning. Only 8 pledges received as of this meeting with a total commitment of $17,030.

Lighting project: A principal designer from Helius will be visiting our building at the end of October to consult on possible replacements for our lighting.

Front entry repair: At the end of last week, Bruce Hawtin’s recommended engineer shot the elevations required for planning to replace the deteriorating front steps. Suggestions should be forthcoming shortly.

The monthly financial reports were reviewed and approved unanimously. Rod noted that quarterly pledge statements had been mailed and received.

Other Action Items/New Business: The Stewardship/Pledge Committee has drafted a letter to be sent with pledge cards. They will go out this week. In

addition, they will have St. Francis Testimonials beginning this Sunday. Agreed by all that those comments should precede the usual announcements.

Bruce Mason has requested through Jim Rein, our Scouting liaison, that the church write a letter to other non-LDS churches in the community encouraging them to reach out to their boys to join our Scout Troop. As this is supporting of our youth efforts, the Vestry agreed that this was fine. Jim will write the letter.

Eat and Meet was well attended. Thanks to Bev Palm for being October’s planning host. We need a host for the December event and for all the dates in 2018.

Committees: Wedding committee has almost completed their initial planning. The most significant remaining decision revolves around

pricing. They will have a budget proposal for a line item for publicity, among other things, for the 2018 budget. Worship: forty (40) Devotional booklets for November through January were ordered and have been received. Vestry

encourages the committee to determine before the next round whether the number should be adjusted.

Closing prayer by Jim. Meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm. Respectfully Submitted, Cheryl Reinertsen
