informed of the recovery process in our Shire especially for those
whom are still facing challenges in the months to come. If you have
information you would like to share that would benefit the
community or have a good news story let the Project Bounce
Forward Team know and let’s keep bouncing towards our
community led recovery.

CWA supporting
our community A big thank you to the ladies
from the Dungog/ Clarence
Town CWA for their kind
donations and delicious
morning tea provided for the
Alison Court residents last
Wednesday. There was lots
of laughter and smiles and a
great opportunity for people
to catch up with each other.
Special thanks to Maureen
for storing the donated gifts
in her home for the last few
months – another local hero.

Quilts The kindness and generosity of people wanting to
support our community is amazing and ongoing.
On Monday we received a beautiful package of
embroidered quilts from the “Aussie Machine
Embroidery Addicts” that were distributed at the
CWA morning. The amount of love and time that
had gone into the making of these quilts is a
reminder to us all of the kindness of the human
spirit. There are still a few beautiful quilts left that
need a lap, if you know someone that needs to be
wrapped in love let us know.
Community Day – save the date If you feel like you are juggling a few balls at the
moment- you are not alone!
On Friday 16th October we are planning a
Community Day and invite everyone to come along.
We will have something for all ages but the
emphasis is on community connections and support
to keep those balls in the air.
If you are interested to be part of the planning for
this fantabulous afternoon contact Karen at the
Centre or by mobile on 0409 781 176.
Steps to Assistance
– how to apply Applications are starting to come in for support
through the Steps to Assistance Fund created by the
generosity of people in our community as well as all
over Australia.
A reminder that this is a strictly confidential process
– if you would like support to access the Fund
contact Mandy or Rae at Project Bounce Forward.
These wonderful ladies will meet with you and assist
you through the process and a decision will be made
within 2 weeks.
Valley to Valley
– messages of hope
For the people of the Latrobe Valley the Morwell
Mine Fire left a blanket of ash and coal dust that
will always serve as a reminder to the community
of the disaster they endured for 45 days. After
hearing about the storms that hit our area in April
they wanted to do something to let us know they
are thinking of us. An amazing book of hope and
inspiration was delivered to the Community
Centre last week by Tracie Lund, a gift to our
community from theirs. Several local residents
whom were flood affected attended a BBQ here
at the Centre to meet Tracie and share their
stories. The book is for the whole of our
community and we want as many people as
possible to read these heartfelt messages of
hope. The book will be circulated in local shops
and cafes over the next few months starting at
the Long Room café on Dowling Street. Please
take the opportunity to have a cuppa and a read,
the messages from the school children are
precious and will put a smile on your face.

Habitat for Humanity The green thumbed
volunteers from Habitat for
Humanity need to get their
hands dirty!
If your garden /yard needs
some tender loving care
and you don’t know where
to start contact us here at
the Centre and we will connect
you to these wonderful volunteers.
What are you doing to
look after yourself? At this stage of the recovery process it is normal to
be experiencing feelings of frustration and being
overwhelmed. The important thing is to be kind to
yourself and to make your self-care a priority. Simple
things like a walk, playing with the dog, having a
bubble bath or catching up with a friend are easy to
achieve even if you need to push yourself a bit.
Here at the Community Centre we are starting a
“Flood Recovery self-care support group”- an
opportunity to connect with others, strategies for
looking after yourself and recognising signs of
stress. The group is facilitated by a health
professional and will run every 2nd Wednesday
commencing the 5th September at 5pm here at the
Centre. Light supper provided.
If you feel you need some extra help or want to talk
to someone about how you are feeling contact
Mandy or Rae at the Centre and they can assist. We
also have our wonderful Bounce Forward
Counsellors, Jody and David that are wandering
through the Shire who will come and visit you at
home or in a café.
Thank you Habitat for Humanity
