::: Unique Density & Concentration Meters

PBA-S/SI Generation MPackaged Beverage Analyzers for Soft Drinks

PBA-S M: The Sum of Great Components

DMA 4100/4500/5000 M: The DMA M density meters measure density with the oscillating U-tube method. Subsequently, the Brix value is calculated with the density. Depending on the accuracy you need, use DMA 4100 M, DMA 4500 M or the most accurate density meter on the market, DMA 5000 M. The DMA M unit controls the entire measurement. Measuring data are transferred to the DMA M display, a printer or a PC, in full compliance with GLP. The data is stored in the DMA M memory.

CarboQC ME: CarboQC ME precisely and reliably determines the dissolved CO2 content. The patented multiple volume expansion method (AT 409673, GB 2373584, US 6,874,351) eliminates the influence of other dissolved gases (e.g. N2 and O2) on the measuring result.

PFD: The PFD filling system enables the comfortable, clean and safe filling of the PBA-S M measuring cells from glass bottles, PET bottles or cans. Due to the applied overpressure, no CO2 is lost during filling and measuring.

The Heart of PBA-SI M: The Soft Drink Analyzer M/P

PBA-SI M externally appears as a compact team of three, just like PBA-S M. The difference is that instead of the DMA M unit a Soft Drink Analyzer M/P is used in combination with CarboQC ME and PFD. The Soft Drink Analyzer M/P simultaneously determines both density and sound velocity in the sample with high precision.

PBA-S M and PBA-SI M:Two Strong Teams

DMA 4100/4500/5000 MFor the determinationof °Brix (PBA-S M)

CarboQC MEFor the determination of CO2.

Optionally, a O2 sensor can be mounted on the CarboQC ME.

Optional:Soft Drink Analyzer M/PFor the additional determination of °Brix fresh, °Brix inverted and degree of inversion (PBA-SI M)

PBA-S M and PBA-SI M are analysis systems for the determination of °Brix and CO2 in soft drinks containing sugar: PBA-S M applies to samples without sugar inversion and PBA-SI M applies to samples with sugar inversion. The beverage is filled into the analysis system directly from its container without any sample preparation, and is then measured fast and with unprecedented precision.

The Packaged Beverage Analyzer for Soft Drinks (PBA-S M) consists of the density meter DMA 4100 M, DMA 4500 M or DMA 5000 M for °Brix determination, the CO2 meter CarboQC ME and the PFD filling system. In the PBA-SI M System, the DMA M is replaced by a Soft Drink Analyzer M/P.

Two that Instantly Deliver

PBA-S M and PBA-SI M keep the CO2 dissolved through overpressure and determine the CO2 content while measuring the density. From the measured density, the fraction that is caused by dissolved CO2 is eliminated mathematically, then this CO2-corrected density value is converted into the °Brix.

In this way you receive the same Brix and CO2 value as with the traditional method, yet with better reliability and in much less time: Results are provided after 2-3 minutes only (5 minutes with PBA-SI M).

PFDFor reproducible filling directly out of the package.

Optionally, the Xsample 510 can be used instead for fully automated operation with up to 18 packages.

More Reliable

PBA-S M and PBA-SI M are not only much faster, but also more reliable than previous routine analyses. Possible errors during sample preparation are completely avoided. PBA-S M and PBA-SI M are easy to use and guarantee excellent measuring results.

More Automation

With the optional Xsample 510 package sampler, 18 samples can be queued to be filled and measured automatically.

The End of Time-consuming Sample Preparation

Employing the same filling technique as Anton Paar’s well-proven PFD filling system, the Xsample 510 automated package sampler simplifies and speeds up work with samples in packages.

Apart from putting the package in the rotary table, no other preparation is needed. This high level of automation ensures highly reproducible measurement results.

18 different bottles or cans in one cycle

The Xsample 510 is designed to handle up to 18 different packages in one measuring cycle, including glass bottles, PET bottles and different sized cans.

Save time and space

Xsample 510 is a benchtop sampler which is easy to clean and maintain. Cleaning is fully automatic with two cleaning liquids. The entire cleaning cycle takes only a few minutes.

Additional O2 Measurement for Longer Product Shelf Life

A high dissolved oxygen content and resulting oxidation products have a negative impact on the taste and shelf life of beverages. Continuous monitoring of the oxygen content during production and in the final product with the option O2 therefore aids the production of beverages which will taste good for longer. Option O2 delivers highly accurate results without extending the analysis time.

Determine carbon dioxide and oxygen simultaneously Option O2 is directly connected to CarboQC ME. This allows the simultaneous determination of the dissolved oxygen and dissolved CO2 contents.

Low maintenance, high performanceThe optical oxygen sensor in option O2 provides a proven and reliable way of oxygen determination. Option O2 can also be easily retroffited in your CarboQC ME.

* Specifications valid for low oxygen ranges at room temperature.

It took more than one hour so far ...

The sugar inversion complicates the measurement of beverage samples containing beet sugar or cane sugar: During storage, the sugar in the beverage chemically transforms into a mixture of glucose and fructose. This changes the density based on which the Brix value is determined. Depending on temperature and acidity, the inversion process can take from a few hours up to several weeks.

With the common measuring method for inverting samples, the sample is chemically treated to reach full inversion, then the density is determined. The whole procedure including the CO2 determination takes about 75 minutes.

... now PBA-SI M does it in five minutes.

The Anton Paar developers found a surprisingly easy answer to the question of sugar inversion: In addition to density, the very same instrument measures the sound velocity in the sample solution. By using these values and taking the CO2 content into account, the instrument calculates not only the current Brix, but also the Brix value of the fresh sample before the beginning of the inversion, as well as the Brix inverted value of the sample after complete inversion.

Get informed on the past, present and future of your beverage sample – highly precise and within five minutes.

PBA-SI M: Perfect for Samples with Sugar Inversion

PBA-SI M can do just what many beverage producers never thought possible until now: By simultaneous measurement of density and sound velocity, PBA-SI M determines °Brix fresh, °Brix inverted and the degree of inversion in sugared samples, in addition to the current °Brix content, CO2 and, optionally O2 concentration.

For the first time, beverages with inverting sugar can be analyzed with speed and precision independently from storage time and storage temperature.

PBA-S M and PBA-SI Mat a Glance

Samples are either identified directly via DMA M (or the Soft Drink Analyzer M/P) or optionally via an external USB keyboard or an USB bar code reader.

The measurement results can be shown on the display, stored in the memory or exported to a USB flash drive.

Further, the data can be sent to a printer (Ethernet, USB or RS-232) and to a PC (via Ethernet or RS-232).

The Excel-based data acquisition software for RS-232, AP-SoftPrint is available. For Ethernet (LAN) data export, the easy-to-use LIMS Bridge software is provided. Both are free of charge (www.anton-paar.com).
