Te Anaesthetic Gas Scavenging(AGS) system is an active system whichremoves anaesthetic gas mixtures romoperating rooms and any other areasfitted with nitrous oxide terminal units.Te removal at source thus eliminatesthe possible long term health hazardsto exposed medical sta. By virtue oits design, the active disposal systemcan produce high levels o capture
simply by connecting the terminal unitto the anaesthetic breathing circuit viaa receiver unit, thereby removing themajority o pollution at source.
Te AGS system is ully compatiblewith any AGS receiver unit.BeaconMeds terminal unitsincorporate an adjustable orifice, whichenables the ow rate to be adjusted inline with any standard including BS
6834, EN 740 and EN ISO 7396-2high-ow ow and low-ow systems.Te AGS system is activated by remoteswitches that can be installed at anyconvenient location either in or closeby the operating and anaesthetic room.
Key Benefts
Ensures a sae working environmentor medical staf - ensuringcompliance with the most stringentoccupational exposure standards
Inherently sae system without therisks o venturi systems that waste
your essential medical air supply
Robust pumps that are actorypre-piped, wired and tested orassured reliability

AGS System Standard Flow Rates
Te chart and table below comparethe three main standards in use oranaesthetic gas scavenging systems.BeaconMedaes AGS systems are easilyadjusted to provide perormance tomatch any o the three.
It is increasingly common to use acentralised AGS system in dentalapplications. Dental AGS systems are
generally dierent and do not requirethe AGS receiver unit (commonlyknown as an air brake), which isnecessary or anaesthesia duringsurgical procedures. A dental AGSsystem is normally required to providea continuous ow o around 45l/min to ensure the sae and efcientcollection o waste gases.
Duplex Systems
Where planned preventativemaintenance or a breakdowno a blower could interrupt thesmooth running o the operatingdepartment, a duplex system isstrongly recommended. In the evento a blower malunction, the stand-byunit is automatically brought on line, ensuring the AGS system continuesto provide protection or medicalsta, and that operations do not haveto be delayed or cancelled.

AGS Standards
Improvements in anaesthesiaworkstation designs have led toreduced ows o gas being used, andhence less potential gas spillageduring induction and maintenanceo anaesthesia. Over the years, AGSsystem design standards have evolvedto take account o this, but anaesthesiaworkstations in use today rangeanywhere rom a ew days old to a ewdecades o service. Tis means thatlower ow systems are not practical inall applications.
HM 02-01 provides guidance on theselection o an appropriate standardor system ows based in a number opractical scenarios.
