MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy Holidays to everyone from Charlotte Cocker Rescue of NC. As the year 2015 comes to a close, we would like to thank all of those who volunteer and help Charlotte Cocker Rescue. We appreciate all the donors and people who have adopted from the rescue as well as our major helpers. Thank you to all the caring people who have offered their time and talent to help CCR through the year. You all are truly wonder people. A special thanks to Cabarrus Animal Hospital staff and groomers, along with Sunny Brook Kennels who also do grooming for our rescues. 2015 has been an unfortunate year for CCR. Due to lack of funds we have had to turn away many cockers in need. Any donations and adoption fees received are currently used for the rescue dogs already here. If and when we received additional funds over our expenses, we rescue additional cockers waiting for a new start in life. We are in desperate need of people willing to donate and/or adopt. Donations will give the rescue the opportunity to help cockers sitting in shelters hoping for us to save them. Give them a chance at a new life. Please help us help them. All funds no matter if it is by a donation or an adoption fee is used for the cockers. CCR is a complete volunteer organization. Donations are 100% tax deductible. No amount is too small. Any amount will help pay for food and medical needs. We thank you for your generous donations this year and in the past. Please continue to think of us and our cockers in need. This year with the donations and adoption fees we have been able to save 61 dogs. In addition to the 32 dogs we had in rescue at the end of 2014, we have been able to save 93 dogs this year. Without your help none of this would have been possible. Without your continued help we will not be able to save this number is 2016. Please take time to view our web site for all our updates and pictures with bios of all the dogs still awaiting their forever home. Every one of them are special in their own way and want only what every other dog wants. A good home with lots of walks, belly rubs, food, love, and a few treats now and then. Listed in the newsletter are a few of the babies that really could use a good home with a family that has room for just one more. By the way also take a moment to read about all the little ones who have found homes in “Happy Tails”. Last but not least, Larry and I want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a healthy happy New Year. We hope that 2015 was a good year for each of you and that 2016 will be even better. God bless all of you.

Our adoption process begins with a completed application, which for Microsoft Word users can be downloaded from our Petfinder home page and returned to us by email. Applications should be emailed to
[email protected] Upon adoption, all medical records will be provided. Current adoption fee is $300.00 and is not tax deductible. You can now sponsor any of our dogs or donate to CCR quickly through PayPal with or without a PayPal account. All donations are tax deductible. CCR is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that relies on private donations and adoption fees to support our rescue efforts. All donations and adoption fees are used for altering/spaying, medical, vaccination, and grooming needs.

SONNY CARPENTER’S MEMORIAL
SONNY
As we all know it is difficult when we are faced with losing our loved ones. Sonny our sweet boy we had rescued when he was 6 months old, passed away in early October. Soony was one of the sweetest cocker boys you could ever have. He lost his brother in 2011 to liver disease and Sonny was sad. He hung in there with all of his medical problems until cancer took his life. Sonny used to enjoy toys in his earlier years. Later in life he just loved eating his food and enjoying treats. He was a perfect boy. He enjoyed everyone he met. Sonny was one of the best cockers Larry and I have owned and we miss him very much. To celebrate his life we want to remember him and his brother Snapper as young and happy boys. When we first rescued them we called them the Doublemint twins. Sonny Bunny and Snapper Snap Snap. Gone but not forgotten.

HAPPY TAILS STORY OF WILSON PENNY
Grayson came to rescue back in Feb when he had been hit by a car and left to die in the freezing snow and rain. He was picked up and taken to animal control where he remained until Charlotte Cocker Rescue saved him. Below is a brief happy tail of his new owners who just love and adore this little boy. We are so happy for Grayson to know true love to never be left outside in the frigid elements again. We have had Bowden (formerly Grayson) for almost 3 months. This sweet boy has brought so much joy into our lives and has been the perfect addition to our family! This Thanksgiving we are especially thankful for the work Donna and the cocker rescue do to bring families like ours together
Wilson was found 8 years ago in Wilson, NC when he was around 10 months old. CCR rescued him from the shelter there and soon after found a new home for him. Unfortunately, that owner returned Wilson to CCR after a couple of years. Donna and Larry took him in and he remained at CCR for the next 5 years, waiting for his forever home.
We adopted Wilson in May, 2015 and we are SO happy to have him as a part of our family. He is such a happy boy… he enjoys his backyard and loves sleeping in his tempurpedic bed with mommy & daddy. We love Wilson so much and he and sister Angel (adopted from CCR in 2005) love each other, too! We’ve made it our mission to give Wilson the best life possible for the rest of his life.

YOU CAN HELP CHARLOTTE COCKER RESCUE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A LIFE LINE
TO COCKERS IN NEED
As with many rescue groups the number of dogs needing to be rescued and the amount of
funds to provide for them is far from equal. 2015 has brought many dogs in need with fewer
adoption fees, donations, and events providing the funds needed for their support. This
year the number of dogs that required additional medical treatment other than
neutering/spaying and shots were numerous. So many were poorly treated and lack of care
was so apparent that our funds were used up quickly just to treat these poor souls. To keep
our rescue moving forward we need help. Here are a few of the ways you can support CCR.
1. Become a sponsor for a dog of choice. Take a moment to review our special needs
dogs and support him/her on a monthly basis with an amount of your choice.
2. Give to the United Way Fund at year end by deducting your amount of choice through
a payroll deduction and designate CCR of NC as the organization of your choice. Ask
your employer if they will match your donation. Charlotte Cocker Rescue doesn’t require that you provide a United Fund number. Just write the rescue name in and
your donation will be given to the rescue.
3. www.IGIVE.com. Before you decide to shop online, go to IGIVE.com and find the store
you want to buy from. There are hundreds of stores to choose from. (Amazon, and
Macys is just a sample of the stores listed.) When you purchase from your favorite
store through the IGIVE website, a portion of the total purchase will go to Charlotte
Cocker Rescue. Do this each time you buy online. It will add up for CCR.
4. Support fundraising events when possible. Yearly calendars, Belk Fundraising tickets,
and car wash tickets are ways that CCR raises funds so we can provide the necessary
vet and surgery needs along with food, medications, and supplies for the rescue. CCR
is always looking for new fundraisers that will help us grow, along with volunteers to
make each and every fundraiser a success. Please email me at

5. When shopping through Amazon.com or Amazon Smile select CCR as your nonprofit of
choice so that the rescue will earn a portion of the total purchase amount. Each time
you purchase an item through Amazon CCR will receive a donation. Even a small
purchase will make a difference to the rescue.
Christmas is a wonderful time and families look forward to spending time together. Pets are a part of the family and want to help you get ready for the big day. Unfortunately decorating can be deadly for your pet. Pets are curious and get into things they shouldn’t. Here is a short list of some of the dangers that you need to look out for: 1. Glue and adhesives. These are extremely toxic to dogs. 2. Potpourri oil is also toxic. 3. Ribbon, string and yarn if swallowed can twist around your dog’s intestines. 4. Place candles on high shelves. Wagging tails or jumping curious dogs and cats can cause a deadly
fire. 5. Mistletoe, Poinsettas, and the berries and leaves of holly. These can cause a simple stomach upset,
vomiting or death. 6. A Christmas tree can be overturned by a jumping dog full of curiosity. Fallen ornaments can be
chewed and eaten. Wires from Christmas lights that are eaten can cause shock and even death.

Please consider adopting one of these precious boys into your family. Each one suffered abuse and neglect before coming into rescue. If you can't adopt, won’t you please become a "monthly angel" to help pay for medication to allow him to live a healthy and happy life until he finds his forever home and family?
AJ - is a 7 year old cocker/springer mix. AJ was not a trusting soul when he came to rescue, but has come a long way in trust and companionship. AJ needs to keep active and on the go. If he becomes bored he will find something to chew on. A family that is home most of the day that enjoys walks would be a good match for AJ.
BRUCE – is a 5 year old cocker mix. Bruce may have a little schnauzer. You can see a hint of this breed in his face. He is shy at first meeting but warms up quickly. Arrived from the shelter with major hair loss due to chronic flea dermatitis. His coat is in excellent shape after medication, baths, and medical care. Loves other dogs. Good with children.
SMOKIE – A happy, friendly 4 year old male cocker. Smokie does have a 2-3 grade heart murmur. Smokie is considered in good health and no medications are needed. He will need an owner who is willing to monitor his heart murmur as the vet recommends. Super friendly and does well with children.
BROMLEY - Special Needs – Bromley has only 3 legs but moves around as if he had all 4 legs. Bromley is prone to bladder stones and requires a special diet which you can purchase from your vet. Bromley is a Dobie mixed with coonhound. Bromley came to rescue with a severe broken leg, heart worms, and crystals in his urine. Today he is healthy

2016 St. Patrick’s parade will be in March. CCR would like to participate as we did this year. Looking for volunteers
for the event. We had lots of fun this year and met a lot of great people.
Meet Fancy a special rescue girl all the way from Tennessee. She is 6 years
old cockapoo. Before she can be adopted she has to go through
heartworm treatment and a dental. She does well with other dogs. She
recently became a star when she participated in the Christmas Parade in
Charlotte. She turned lots and heads and warmed many a heart. She will
be in a happy and safe place this Christmas. Her only wish is to have a
forever home in 2016.
WILSON’S STORY CONTINUES
Winston would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. He says to tell everyone life is so great and he has been a busy boy in rescue. Since our last newsletter Winston has been traveling back to the mountains in September and again in October. He also made a short trip to the beach and really enjoyed putting his paws in the water.
He couldn’t wait to help all the volunteers selling tickets at the Belk Charity sell. Winston charmed many of the shoppers walking by to purchase tickets to benefit the rescue.
Winston made his first appearance at the annual Christmas Parade. He was the bell of the ball and charmed everyone with his good looks and sweet personality. He had such a good time. I know he is looking forward to attending next year’s parade.
When Winston is relaxing at home he enjoys his toys, playing with all the dogs and of course his balls. His favorite is his wobble wag ball. One of Winston’s favorite things to do is to rest on his mommy’s lap when he wants to relax and get a little attention.
He is looking forward to Christmas and can't wait to see what Santa will bring him this year. Unfortunately Christmas will be a little lonely because one of his best friends, Sonny Carpenter, went to the rainbow bridge in October. Fortunately Winston has many foster brothers and sisters to celebrate Christmas with. Winston so wishes that all animals could be as lucky as he is.
Winston wants you to know he is doing well, and even though he still has medical problems most are well controlled. Winston wants to thank all the cocker angels who donate to sponsor him and ensure he gets all his needed med's and special food. Winston sends many cocker kisses to all.
