With the safety, welfare and health of dogs in the shelter being paramount, it is our policy to house new dogs in an individual pen for approximately 10 to 14 days. This allows our Kennel Consultants to ensure that a dog is not suffering from any contagious disease and to assess its general well-being and temperament before moving it to a section containing other dogs.
If you find a stray or abandoned dog, or if you have problems with a dog you have
rehomed, please telephone 99683775 BEFORE bringing the dog to the shelter.
This will allow us to check if we have a suitable single pen available to take the dog on that day, and it may save you a wasted journey. In the event that the shelter is full, we will ask you to keep the dog and phone us back in a couple of days’ time when we may be in a better position to accommodate the dog.
The shelter is open to the public between 7am and 12 noon daily.

We are pleased to announce that
the November quiz at Gustozo
raised €1030 for our dogs. A
good night was had by all and
the music round was certainly
light-hearted to say the least !
Many people were extra
generous with donations of
fabulous raffle prizes
including a beautiful hamper.
Winners of the quiz were a team
called the „ST. TaTs‟ beating the
second placed team „Barney‟s
Buddies‟ by just one point.
Thanks to everyone who came to
support and to
Gustoso staff and
Management.
Quiz nights, as part of PAWS fundraising efforts, have remained
very popular during 2017. Seven quizzes were organised during the
year, the venue being GUSTOSO RESTAURANT.
Supporters attending these evenings raised a total of €6799 which
is a truly great amount. We are very grateful to them, to those who
donate raffle prizes and also to SHAMPOOCH who sponsor these
events and provide wine for the winners and runners up.
Thank you everyone.
Our first quiz of 2018 is being held on Wednesday 24th January.
It is guaranteed to shake away the winter blues. If you would like to
join us for an entertaining evening, please contact
MARIA on 97645543 to book.

ADOPTING AND FOSTERING
Adopting or Fostering -
which is more important ?
Both fostering and adopting
are equally important as they
give the opportunity for a
dog that hasn‟t had the best
start in life to feel the love
and affection that a foster or
forever home gives.
The Kennel Consultants at
PAWS would take time to
speak to you in order to
match you with the dog or
puppy most suited to you.
If you are interested then...
Please call MATT or PETE
on 99683775.
Adopting from PAWS is a
straightforward process.
Guidance and advice is on hand
throughout the process.
We can arrange for the export of
your new dog to UK or other
European countries with the only
cost to yourselves being the flight
and travel crate.
All our dogs come with a micro-
chip, which must be registered at
the government vets, are fully
vaccinated, and if old enough,
sprayed/castrated.
FOSTER CARE.
Fostering means that you care for a
dog as if it were your own.
Fostering holds benefits for you, the
dog and the Shelter. The dog learns
to adapt to family life, the Shelter
has a valuable space available and
you enjoy the pleasure of enriching
the dogs life.
WE NEED FOSTER HOMES
FOR MANY REASONS.
* a dog waiting to travel abroad.
* a sick dog needing the quiet
environment of a home.
* a puppy that needs 24hr care that
cannot be provided at the shelter.

I am a former in-mate
at PAWS, now living
with mum and dad in the
East of England, with my
adopted younger brother
Spencer. This is his
story, or at least as much
as he can remember.
Spencer was wandering along the street in the village of Letymbou
in Cyprus, one April morning in 2015. He was still quite a young
pup, and did not know where his mother was, and was feeling rather
lonely. Luckily he was outside the house of a lovely lady called
Carol Cox, who took him in and looked after him. Carol thought that
Spencer might have been dumped on the streets, but Spencer was too
young to remember. Carol already had four dogs, but Spencer lived
happily with them, until space became available in PAWS.
Soon Spencer was with other dogs being looked after by Matt, Pete,
Auntie Colleen and the other volunteers at PAWS. He never pushed
himself forward when people came looking for a new family pet.
But one day, his luck changed. (In addition to the day he chummed
up with me, of course!). In November 2015, dad was staying in
Cyprus for a month with mum. They decided to volunteer to walk
some dogs at PAWS as part of their holiday. Mum immediately
liked Spencer, and so did Dad. Mum says that Spencer
recognised dad whenever they came to walk him. Mum used to sit
on the bench near the entrance to PAWS, away from the noisy
kennels and stroke and tickle Spencer until he fully relaxed.
Anyway, Mum and Dad went back England, but came back and
walked Spencer and me during visits in January, February and
March 2016. Mum and Dad were not planning to have another dog,
but Spencer always tugged at their emotions, and they kept thinking,
“we hope Spencer gets a new home soon”....
Hello Everyone !
My name is Ziggy.
17
In Spring 2016 Auntie Colleen sent an email to dad to tell him the
good news that Spencer was going to Germany. Mum and dad were
pleased, but were sad to hear that he was only going to a foster home to
start with. Dad convinced Mum it was better for Spencer to have a
permanent home. And as luck would have it, they decided not only to
bring Spencer to England, but me as well!! We were best buddies after
all. We came to England on 23 June 2016. We were scared when we
were on the plane and arrived at Gatwick, but Spencer settled down
very quickly. Eventually we went to dog training to learn new things.
Spencer loves our dog trainer (so do I, but Spencer cries when he sees
her!). Spencer has won rosettes in training, but he isn‟t exactly top of
the class. Dad decided that Spencer needed a job. Because Spencer was
so laid back, Dad thought Spencer would make a good dog for visiting
elderly or sick people who might be missing their own pets, or simply
loved animals and wanted some company. So, Dad applied for Spencer
to become a Therapy Dog for Therapy Dogs Nationwide. Dad and
Spencer (mostly Spencer) had to undertake a very strict assessment,
but he passed with flying colours and the assessor thought he would be
perfect. She thought Spencer would be brilliant working with children.
Then there were lots of forms to fill in, but Spencer was
approved, and now has his identity badge and is getting ready for his
first visit. It will be hard work, but Spencer will be good for the adults
and children he will be working with, helping them to become calmer
and more confident.
Spencer has come a long way from being alone on the street in
Letymbou as a dog with no home to a Therapy Dog who will be
helping people have better lives. And it was probably people who
rejected him in the first place and left him on the streets. This just
shows what can be achieved by any dog, no matter where they
come from. Spencer hopes his story will inspire other PAWS dogs
to meet their potential.
On behalf of Spencer, thank you
Auntie Carol and
everyone at PAWS !

It has been a very good year for re-homing our shelter dogs in the UK.
On a couple of occasions, we had couples making a special trip to
Cyprus to meet the dog they either picked from our Web or Facebook pages.
Some doggies have found their fame.
Nara, shelter name Lucky, won 1st prize for best rescue in a local dog
show in the Midlands.
Another of our doggies Henry, shelter name Hobo, won 2nd prize in a dog
show in Cumbria.
Max, who was funded by a lovely UK couple for a hip operation by Noel
Fitzpatrick, the Supervet, and is recovering well in his forever home in Durham.
Bertie, has gone to live with her kennel buddy Myra, who flew to the UK
last year.
Young Amber has been homed with another of our dogs who also flew last
year. The two look so much alike, one can take them for mother and daughter.
I cannot write about all the dogs who have gone to the UK because they are
too numerous to mention but– hugs to everyone of them.
Thank you to those who have returned the travel crates and all the goodies for
the dogs received.
At the present we are struggling for crates, and they are expensive to buy.
So, folks, if you still have the crate your doggie travelled in please e-mail
[email protected] to arrange collection from your door.
This will enable other doggies to fly to their forever home.
Also anyone reading this if you have a crate you wish to donate to PAWS,
C.A.P.C.A, if it is plastic and IATA approved please contact the above e-mail.
Many thanks and best wishes, Tina Harris

Many packages have reached us in time for Christmas.
Many people have thought of our dogs and also of our helpers,
which has touched us very much.
At this point I would like to thank, on behalf of the dogs, all the helpers at
PAWS for their support !
Our dogs at our shelter couldn't live so well without you. Thanks to the
generous money and food supply, we can provide our dogs the best
possible care.
Of course this is not a substitute for a home...but with the homing of over
170 PAWS dogs and many dogs of private individuals who have asked us
for help our achievement is even greater. The United Kingdom has also
been successful and this year significantly more dogs have been able to be
homed in the UK. This has been achieved even though flights are becoming
more and more difficult to find, and although it is a big problem for us to
let the dogs fly out, we will always fight for our dogs !!
We would like to thank you from our hearts and hope you will support us
as well next year.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
Susi Von Bueren and the PAWS team.
