DESCRIPTION

P.S. Kandhal and R.B. Mallick prepared this manual for the US Federal Highway Administration to train highway engineers in state and local governments across United States. Four types of recycling have been described in detail: Hot mix recycling; Hot in-place recycling; Cold asphalt recycling (both plant and in-place); and Full depth reclamation. Each recycling method has been described in terms of construction methods & equipment; materials & mix design; and case histories and QC/QA (quality control/quality assurance). Each chapter of the manual can be downloaded free with the links provided.

Kandhal, Prithvi S. and Rajib B. Mallick. Pavement Recycling Guidelines for State and Local Governments. Federal Highway Administration Report FHWA-SA-98-042, December 1997.The above referenced comprehensive manual on asphalt pavement recycling was prepared by Prithvi S. Kandhal, Associate Director, and Rajib B. Mallick, Senior Research Associate, National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT), Auburn University, Alabama, USA. The project was sponsored by the US Federal Highway Administration. This manual was used by Kandhal and Mallick to conduct field workshops throughout the US to train highway engineers of state and local governments, contractors, and consultants. Twelve two-day workshops were conducted by them in different parts of the country to train engineers of all 50 states. This comprehensive manual addresses all issues related to recycling such as performance of recycled mixes; selection of appropriate type of recycling; economics of recycling; and structural design of recycled pavements. Four types of recycling have been described in detail: Hot mix recycling; Hot in-place recycling; Cold asphalt recycling (both central plant and in-place); and Full depth reclamation. Each recycling method has been described in terms of construction methods & equipment; materials & mix design; and case histories and QC/QA (quality control/quality assurance). The reader can download any or all of the following chapters by clicking on URL given under each chapter (or CTRL plus click or copy and paste in URL). For example, if the reader is interested in cold in-place recycling only, then Chapters 13, 14, and 15 would be appropriate. Use the main reference above if any material is quoted from any chapter.
