PROJECT 5 | INTERMODAL STATION
Design made in partnership with UFRGS and Porto Alegre’s city hall. It’s an architectural project for Cairu’s Intermodal Station, this place will be used daily by 98 thousand people. The project was made with a set of predefi ned rules, among them: the height of underground pavements, the bus arrival e departure areas and the localization of the subway station. The main challenge was designing the station’s outdoor roofi ng. The park near the land plot is one of the few pleasant green places in Farrapos Avenue, with this in mind, the park was chosen as the project’s guideline. With the purpose to reproduce the park’s pleasantness, the steel structures were made to look like trees covered with light transmitant material, saving energy during daytime.

PROJECT 6 | WORK + LIVING CENTER
This architectural project’s main goal was improving one degraded area downtown Porto Alegre city. Before starting the project, one regional analysis was made searching for potential uses for the area. This research helped chosing the guidelines for the project. This area is near the city’s railway station, one big university and several small shops, so it was decided to build two towers with either commercial offi ces and residential apartments for students and young couples.

This house was designed to be in an exhibition in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre. The main concept was inspired by the words of the famous architect Le Corbusier “the form follows function”. We thought that we could apply this concept to today’s design requirements, so we came up with a new concept “the form follows the energy”. The Energy House uses solar panels placed strategically to capture the maximum amount of energy, vegetacion around to help the insulation and the hole water that is used come from the rail and it is fi ltered by the planter next to the deck.

In spite of it’s poor urban conditions, the shore of Guaiba River, where people can appreciate Porto Alegre’s beautiful sunset, is one of the most known places in the city. This place’s potential has been badly used, mainly because of the lack of urban furniture. To bring more people to the Guaíba shore, the project created the concept “Lazer+Educação” (Leisure+Education) to emphasize the urban infrastructure of the area (a soccer stadium, an elderly home, the region’s green area and the samba school).

URBANISM 2 | LAND DIVISION COUNTRY CLUB
The Porto Alegre’s Country Club is a highly valued 51 hectares area. The main purpose of the project is to turn this green area in a residential area, respecting its borders and adding quality to the region, improving its roads and landscape. Using the stream that crosses the land plot, It was planned one big green park in the borders, together with urban furniture, a sports center, a cultural center and a school, it creates an appealing axis for the region. In this axis, The project also planned a street linking two important avenues in this neighborhood.

PAULA PRESSER | ARCHITECTURAL PORTFOLIO
The “Espaço do Torcedor” (supporters Lounge) was created to help supporters from a local soccer team (Grêmio Football Porto Alegrense) to follow the construction of a new soccer arena. The lounge was made with a coffee place, a room with a model of the future arena, a rooftop with a sight of the construction site and a private space for architects and engineers managing the works. This lounge was created to be used through the last nine months of the construction of the Arena, the lounge needed to be built in one month. To accomplish this, the structure was made with steel frame coated with dry-wall inside and cement sheets outside of the building.

PY HOUSE
The Py House was designed to a young, unmarried woman, but the project allows changes to the house as soon as the client’s needs change. The house’s second fl oor has a family room that can be easily changed to a living room, a home offi ce or a new bedroom. The concept of the house was made inspired by the minimalism school. Using fair-faced concrete, stone coating and wood, the project shows key characteristics of brazilian architecture.

RESIDENCIAL BUILDING
Residential Building located in Elias Bothome street, in Porto Alegre, was built to be bought by middle class families. Raised in a land plot of 24x30m, it has three apartments in each fl oor, two
of them have windows both in the front and back of the building. The living rooms were made in
the building’s front area, so the street will be safer because people usually spend more time in it.
Instead of making the lounge in the back, it will be made in the fi rst fl our, near the forefront.
The architectural design was made above a 80x80cm grid to fi t the ribbed slab structure.

GRÊMIO FOOTBALL TRAINING CENTER
As soon as the local soccer team Grêmio Football Porto Alegrense built a new arena, it traded its old stadium’s land plot to help paying the construction. Without the old’s stadium training center, the club needed to build a new one near the new soccer arena very quickly. To accomplish this, the team used a pre-shaped structure. The building has a good integration with the soccer training fi elds, this was inspired by Barcelona F.C training center. The main equipments are in the center of the building, leaving the mobile expanded sheets borders free for circulation. The building also captures rainwater and uses solar energy for water heating.
