ACT OF KINDNESS
Tell A Friend Week
A few weeks ago The Act of Kindness had a promotion
encouraging students and families to tell a friend or family
from another school about the program. It is great to see and
hear about all the great things going on at Patterson Lakes
Primary School. Congratulations to all the students and
families who have been nominated and who have nominated
someone for the award. It is really important to remember
that we all have a responsibility to ensure everyone feels
safe and secure at school. Look out for someone doing the
right thing in the yard this week and nominate them for The
Act of Kindness Award.

Patto’s Vegie Patch
We have been very successful in growing wonderful fresh produce in our school vegie patch this year. Gardening club for Year 3s is held every Tuesday lunch time with some 4s joining us for the session. Next week we would like to do some cooking, but need 3 parent helpers to assist with the preparation. If you can help, please see Melissa Shipham in Room 22, contact the school or email [email protected] .
READING PROGRAM
TAKE HOME BOOKS
As from the beginning of this year, take home books were to
be borrowed in your child’s name from the library. Children
are able to borrow 10 books per week to use at home and in
the classroom. These books are then to be returned for
more books to be borrowed.
Children are carefully placed on the correct colour for the
take home book box. This is carried out through teacher
judgement, assessment and knowledge of your child’s
reading.
Take home books are to develop confidence in your child.
They are not designed for your child to struggle through,
therefore, reading becoming a laborious task. Take home
books are for you and your child to enjoy together. Many
things besides enjoyment can be gained from take home
books: fluency, phrasing, expression, word knowledge,
recognising punctuation and comprehension.
Take home books also support the Independent Reading
program implemented in classrooms. These books are ‘just
right’ for your child.
Remember….reading is to be an enjoyable experience…
"So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install, A lovely bookshelf on the wall."

Dear Parents
This week is the last chance to get stickers for the
Woolworths Earn & Learn program.
The program is designed to assist schools in obtaining
valuable teaching resources – simply by doing your grocery
shop at a Woolworths supermarket. All stickers and sticker
cards need to be returned to the school next week in order
for us to claim our rewards. If your cards aren’t full, don’t
worry, still send them in and we can fill them with the loose
stickers we have received.
Thank you all for participating in the program and we look
forward to revealing all the resources we have earned.

academic achievement, other benefits from learning a language other than English are: building
confidence, enhancing literacy skills, encouraging cultural awareness, problem solving skills, etc.
