• Create a “hybrid” meal system –
opportunities outside cook-chill.
• Introduce fresh local produce onto the
menu.
• Reduce food miles, support local business
and reduce landfill/packaging.
• Engage with dietetics and SLT to
overcome potential difficulties.
Engagement
• Regular patient meal taste panels in main
entrance.
• Highly successful Patient Food Focus Groups –
themes and action planning. 50+ attendees.
• Inpatient surveys – reflect Picker survey and
monitor results.
• Ward level; soups, salads, breakfast sessions.
• Board level interest – food is seen as part of the
recovery process.
In-patient catering
improvements
• Recognise that instrumental change is
required to influence outcomes.
• Focus Groups support this.
