Our speaker this month is Karen Hill from Granny KQuilts of SpringHill,KS. Karen is a self-proclaimed expert on Dresdens due to thelarge number of Dresden quilts that she has made. Her lecture,Degrees of Dresden defines the degrees and identifies the rulersrequired for each degree. Her beautiful and creative use oftheDresden block in her quilts will add joy to your day.

Patty Simmons will present a trunk show in January. Patty was raised inIndependence, Missouri. After graduating from

She also worked as a professionalwedding photographer for several years when her kids were young. Patty's interest in quilting started about 20 years ago. She has won awards from Bernina University and Quiln.on,and her work has appeared in Generation Qmagazine. Although her first works were rootedin traditional and primitive quilting, Patty's current interest is in modern quilting and sheenjoys improv work and minimalism. Donna has alsodesigned the Omnigrip On-Point Ruler and On-Point Square.Donna will present her program, "Make Mine Mini" to the guild and will conduct a workshop

Diane Harris will be presenting her "Make ExtraordinaryScrap Quilts" program in April. Diane is a freelance writer,speaker, teacher and quilt designer. After 11 years as aneditor for Quiltmaker magazine, she formed a business calledStash Bandit, through which she presents energetic trunkshows and lively classes for quilters. She ispassionate about making scrap quilts and
-. •••_ •• creating interesting original designs. Shenever met a fabric she didn't like or couldn't use. Her workhas been featured in Quiltmaker, McCall'sQuilting, QuickQuilts and Modern Patchwork. Diane lives on a working farmin rural Nebraska. Visit ndlt.net to learn more.
In June we will feature Carl Hentsch for our
program. He will be sharing his quilts with us
through a trunk show that will feature some of the
quilts from his new book. He has authored three
books and has commercial patterns which may be purchased through The Quilt Exchange. His
company is the Three Dog Design Company, located in St. Joseph, MO. He loves foundation paper
piecing as his quilts show through their beauty.
We are very excited to bring Timna Tarr to Blue
Valley for a fun and inspirational Flying Colors
trunk show. She will also do Designing with
Flying Colors (3 hrs) and 0 Happy Day (6 hrs)
workshops for our BV guild, Aug. 2019. Timna will then teach five (or more!) techniques on howto make perfect circles, using both hand and machine techniques. Sheis scheduled for those
workshops plus her Map Making Workshop atp,~~5=~~!~;;the 2019 KansasCity RegionalQuilt Festival.~ We wanted to give you a heads up to help you
in planning for classesat the KCRQF.
Timna Tarr comes from a long line of quilters but did not begin quilting
until after studying art history in college. Shebought her first longarm in
2001 and began quilting clients' quilts shortly thereafter. Sincethen she
hascustom designed and quilted thousands of quilts. Timna's own na
tionally award-winning quilts are in private and corporate collections and
have been seen in numerous exhibits, quilting magazines,and books. She
hasappeared on Quilting Arts TV several times. She is a speaker and
teacher throughout the northeastern United States and is a member of her local guilds.
"My work is about color and small compositions. Eachblock in a quilt is made as its own element, independent of the other
blocks." Timna hasdeveloped a specialty making quilted maps of her hometown, Hadley, MA.

Step 1.Take two to four of your 9/1 x 9/1 squares and stack them together, right sides up.
Stacked squares Step 2. Make one diagonal cut. Step 3. Carefully shifttwo stacks apart.
Step 4. Make a second Step 5. Shift fabric.diagonal cut.
Step 6. Shuffle treesand backgrounds.Match all your trees totheir backgroundsbefore you startsewing so you don'tend up with a blockthat has the tree inthe same fabric asthe background.
Step 7. Reassemble startingwith the last cut; after sewing,there will be excessbackground fabric. Sew leftsides, staring at lower leftcorner, leaving a bunny ear.

ut one 1 1/2" x 2" piece ofrown fabric for a trunk. Sewe background strip on either
ide of a trunk. Trim a straightge after sewing.
Step 8. Trim a straight edge aftersewing left side of the tree. Sewthe right side of the background,making sure you are sewing onthe angled line. Sew from thetop, leaving a bunny ear.
Step 9. Trim a straightedge along the bottomafter sewing the rightside of the tree.
Step 11. Center the trunk on the tree base and attach.The background may not be centered. Be sure the backgroundof the tree matches the background of the trunk.
Step 12. Trim blocks to 7.5"x 9.5".Tr to center the tree and leave as much of the trunk as possible.

Thursday October 11, Sue Tuttle presented the Sit & Stitch "Domestic Machine" quiltingworkshop. Several charity quilts were provided by the charity committee and the participatingmembers practiced on these quilts. We'll hopefully see several finished quilts at our Novembermeeting. Just ask anyone who attended how they learned to sandwich the quilts without using onepin.
Thanks Sue for your wonderful hints on how to sandwich and quilt small size quilts.
The month of November brings just one workshop. Trisch Price will be leading the"Curved Piecing" workshop Thursday, November 8th. This workshop is full withseveral on a wait list. Please notify us at the Sit & Stitch table if you have signedup AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND.

We have a large guild with the potential for lots of blocks tobe turned in. Depending on how many participants we have, wemay divide the blocks and have more than one winner.

KCRQF CLASS Registration will be open tomembers of the 18 participating Guilds the first twoweeks of January before they open to the public.This will be your opportunity to get the classes youwant. Lots of new teachers, classes, vendors, andmore beautiful quilts.
Preview Night tickets for June 12, 2019 will beavailable for purchase on the registration form at$40 each. Music will be provided by the CalypsoBluz Topical Island Duo, withsteel drums and smoothvocals. http://calypsobluz.com/.Jenny Doan will have a TrunkShow prior to the PreviewNight festivities. She will alsobe in attendance at PreviewNight for meet and greet.

Ricky Tims Concert and Trunk Showwill be held on June 14, 2019 at White Theatre,Jewish Community Center, 5801 W 115th St,Overland Park, KS66211 (time to beannounced later). Thereare 500 seats. Thetickets will be open tothe public (including theGuild members) topurchase in earlyNovember. Showcase Challenge Quilt entries are due by theDecember 2018 meeting. Please let Sue Tuttleor Judy Brennan know if your intend to submit aquilt, with the names of the people creating thequilt (all must be members of any of the participating Guilds), and contact person's email address and phone number. The quilter does nothave to be a member of the participating Guilds.This is a non-binding entry should you decide ata later date not to submit a quilt. The criteria forsubmitting a quilt is listed at: http://kcrgf.com/participating-guilds/showcase-challengelQuilts aredue for submission by June, 2019.

leyquiltersguild. This is a closed group, and you need to be a member of the guild to receive emails posted in the Yahoo
Group.
How often you receive group emails is a setting you can change to meet your personal preference.
On the left side of the page, look for the link "Manage My Groups." Click on that link, and you should see
"bluevalleyquiltersguild." If you click on drop down menu under the heading "Mail Subscription," there are some options
on how you'd like to receive the group's messages.

Keep in mind if you choose any option other than "Individual Emails" any time sensitive messages may be received too

IngredientsHoney Corn Pudding
5 large eggs
1/3 cu p butter, melted
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons Honey
1 tablespoon orange juice
V2 cup half & half
4 tablespoons cornstarch
2 (15 1/4-ounce) cans whole kernel white corn
2 (14 3/4-ounce) cans cream-style white corn
1 small green jalapeno pepper, chopped fine,remove seeds if you want less heat
V2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Dash onion powder
% teaspoon sea salt
% teaspoon fresh ground pepper

Directions:In a large bowl, lightly beat eggs; add half & half and beat. Stir in the remaining ingredients, addingthe corn last. Blend well. Pour mixture into a buttered 2 quart casserole dish. Bake in a preheated400°F oven for one hour or until golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to sit for 10minutes.Serve warm.
