3 May 2019 PRCS2019/050 Dear Parents/Guardians School Updates 2019/05 (Secondary 1 Express) 1. Secondary 1 to 3 Parent-Teacher Meeting

Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) will take place on Friday, 31 May 2019. To allow Home Tutors to see as many sets of parents/ guardians as possible, PTM will last the whole day and there will be no school that day. We strongly encourage both parents/guardian to attend PTM with your child/ward, to ensure common understanding of your child’s/ ward’s progress and follow-up actions, moving forward. PTM will be held in the school hall between 8.00am and 5.00pm. You are invited to book a 15 minute timeslot to meet your child’s/ward’s Home Tutor and receive your child’s/ward’s Semestral 1 report. Kindly book your timeslot through the parent’s or your child’s/ward’s account in the Learning Management System (LMS) from Monday, 6 May (open from 8am) to Monday, 20 May 2019. You may refer to the ‘How to Book’ guide at Annex A. We seek your cooperation to adhere to the timeslot you have booked. In the event you are unable to attend the PTM on Friday, 31 May 2019, please contact your child’s/ward’s Home Tutor to arrange for a separate meeting during the first week of June, especially if your child’s/ward’s performance is not satisfactory. We believe the timely sharing of information will help you in guiding your child/ward well in their revision during the June holidays. We request parents who plan to drive to school to park your vehicle at one of the HDB carparks near the school. We request that your child’s/ward’s report book be signed by you and returned to the Home Tutor on the first day of Term 3, 1 July 2019. 2. Roald Dahl Showdown As part of the English Language Department’s ongoing efforts to promote a love for reading in our students, all Secondary One students have been introduced to Roald Dahl’s works during their English Language (EL) lessons. On Thursday, 16 May 2019, all Secondary One Express students will take a pen and paper quiz based on (a) The Landlady (b) Matilda and (c) Boy: Tales of Childhood. This will culminate in a Showdown with students competing with readers from other classes on Thursday, 30 May 2019 in the hall from 2.15pm to 3.30pm Please note that the books for this upcoming quiz can be borrowed from our library.

3. Goal Setting Discussion

Your child/ward has set some academic and personal goals in Term 2 during Crest Time in school.

The objectives of engaging your child/ward in the goal setting process are:

1. To inculcate in Crestians the school’s motto of “Pursue and Realise Challenges” 2. To instill in each Crestian the PRCS values of being:

a. Proactive – plan ahead in achieving their personal goals, and b. Self-motivated – take ownership over their own plans and follow them through.

With the advice from the Home Tutors, our students have identified key strategies to help them achieve their goals. You are strongly encouraged to take some time during the semester break to discuss and encourage your child/ward towards achieving his/her goals. 4. Secondary One Values-In-Action Programme - Care Card

In line with the Ministry of Education's move to inculcate good life habits and values in our students, the school will be implementing the Values-in-Action (VIA) Care Card Project for the Secondary One cohort during the upcoming June holidays. The Care Card Project encourages students to show their appreciation to their family members by helping out with household tasks at home. Some of the tasks listed in the Care Card are also designed to promote elements of the 3Rs Environmental Campaign: Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. To complement your child/ward's efforts to cultivate positive habits at home, the school would like to seek your assistance to provide him/her with the opportunity to perform the tasks as listed in the Care Card during the June holidays. Your efforts to acknowledge the completion of each household task by signing on the Care Card, as well as through positive affirmation, will empower their efforts, and make this project even more meaningful for them. Students have been informed that their Care Cards will be due for submission on Friday, 5 July 2019. 5. June Holiday Assignments and Activities

The objectives of the holiday assignments are to reinforce student’s learning and address learning gaps identified through the mid-year examinations and to ensure that students are meaningfully occupied during the holidays. Your child/ward will be receiving the June Holiday assignments for different subjects. Please guide your child/ward to plan his/her time so that he/she can have sufficient rest and complete his/her assignments for submission on the first day of Term Three.

6. Travel Declaration We request your child/ward to provide us with their travel details for the coming June school holidays, from 1 June 2019 to 30 June 2019, only if he/she is travelling. Please ensure that your child/ward completes the online travel declaration via the school’s LMS by Friday, 31 May 2019. Should there be any changes to the travel plans during the course of the holidays, please update the information via the LMS with a new travel declaration. Kindly also inform the school if there is any change to your contact details.

7. Semester 2 Timetable

A Semester 2 timetable will take effect on the first day of Term 3. Your child/ward will be able to view the timetable via the school’s website from Friday, 28 June 2019. 8. Public and Scheduled School Holidays in Semester 2 The public and scheduled school holidays in Semester 2 are as follows:

Youth Day 7 July 2019 The following Monday, 8 July will be a scheduled school holiday.

National Day 9 August 2019 Teachers’ Day 6 September 2019 Hari Raya Haji 11 August 2019

12 August 2019 will be a public holiday. Deepavali 27 October 2019

28 October 2019 will be a public holiday.
