Parts of speech The words used in a sentences are divided in to different kinds of classes according to the work they do in the sentences. These kind of classes are called parts of speech. They are generally eight. 1=Noun 2=Pronoun 3=Adjective 4=Verb 5=Adverb 6=Preposition 7=Conjuction 8=Interjection 1=NOUN Noun is a word used for naming a thing,a place,a person or an idea. e-g.1=Alama Iqbal was agreat man. 2=Please do not make a noise. 3=Childerns drink milk. 4=Always speak the truth. 5=Ali is a good boy. 2=PRONOUN. A word used in place of noun is called pronoun. e-g. 1=You are a boy. 2=I am a teacher. 3=We are young. 4=This is your book. 5=I might have been him. 3=ADJECTIVE .

3=ADJECTIVE. A word which qualifies a noun.e-g. 1=She is a preety girl. 2=He is a lazy boy. 3=I gave her two pencils. 4=I do not like that family. 5=Hedid not eat any bread.

4=VERB. A word which denotes actions , states and happenings.e-g. 1=The sun rises from the east.

2=He speaks the truth.3=It rains in winter.4=The sun sets in the west.5=They work hard all day.

5=ADVERB. A word which qualifies a verb an adjective or another adverbs.e-g.1=You are a very clever boy. 2=He was reading clearly. 3=Do not walk so fast. 4=They fought bravely. 5=She was walking slowly.

6=PREPOSITION. A word which shows in what relation one thing stands to another.e-g.1= He is fond of tea. 2=He is ashamed of his behaviour. 3=Let us hope for the best 4=He was angry with me. 5=He was absent from the class.

7=CONJUCTION. A word which is used to connect one part of a sentence to another.e-g.1=He is poor but honest. 2=Two and two makes four. 3=Either he is a fool or a knave. 4=Ali and saif are good singers. 5=She is a doctor and her brother is an engineer.

8=Interjection. A word which expresses some emotion or feeling.e-g.1=Hurrah! We won the match. 2=Alas! He is no more. 3=Hush! Don’t make a noise. 4=Hello! What are you doing there? 5=OH! You gave me shivers.
