Business Children’s Services Community

Certificate lll in Business This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to transition effectively into a workplace environment. All units have been contextualised to meet general workplace requirements, providing learners with the skills necessary to work across a range of industries and occupations. This nationally recognised qualification will introduce the fundamental basics of business and incorporate employability skills, the essential skills linking academic studies and employment. Certificate lll in Early Childhood Education and Care Completion of the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care provides students with both the theory and the practical experience that underpin workplace skills in the Child Care industry and various Community Services organisations. This course will give students a taste of the Child Care industry and develop a range of skills that will assist them in the workplace and in relating to children in everyday life. Students will work on a range of activities, which focus on communication with children, behaviour guidance, occupational health and safety, preparing nutritious foods, basic administration and an introduction to the importance of play for children. Certificate I in Construction In this course learning includes working effectively and sustainably in the Construction Industry, planning, organising and carrying out workplace communication and measurement and calculations. Creative Industries Fitness

Certificate III in Screen and Media (Game Art Foundations) The Game Art Foundations course will teach students how to develop a game from initial concept to playable demo. Students will use Unity 3D game engine, for its modelling and coding flexibility as well as Maya and Adobe Photoshop. Students will develop 3D environments, characters, mechanic (scripting) and produce animations to create their own interactive games. Focus is predominately on Art development, and using student/player feedback. Students will implement game mechanics through a series of prototypes to complete the demo of their concept. Certificate III in Screen and Media (Game Art Foundations) The Game Art Foundations course will teach students how to develop a game from initial concept to playable demo. Using either the Unity or Unreal game engine, students will develop 3D environments, characters and produce animations to create their own interactive games. Focusing more on Art development, and using player feedback, students can implement game mechanics through a series of proto types. Certificate III in Fitness This course is designed for students who have an interest in working in the fitness industry. They gain practical and theoretical knowledge in a classroom and gym environment. Students will learn how to instruct fitness programs, incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming and provide healthy eating information. Electronics Food Processing

Combined Certificate II in Electronics/Electro-technology Students will complete competencies and skills related to the electro technology industry. The skills are relevant to a range of areas under the umbrella of electro technology including air conditioning, electrical, refrigeration, data communications, security systems, electronics and engineering, computer systems, instrumentation, and plumbing. Golden Grove High School Length: Full Year RTO: PEER VEET SACE Credits: 50 credits max (Stage 2)

Certificate ll in Electro-technology This course will give students the skills and knowledge of the electrical industry by covering the WHS requirements specific to the industry, electrical theory, components and technologies, communication, electrical measurements and calculations and the utilisation of a range of electrical tools, equipment and systems. Students who want a career in hairdressing will gain valuable insight into the profession through this course. Students work in a salon environment and learn skills that will help them integrate into the industry. There is a constant demand for well-trained hairdressers and Certificate II is a great pathway to a school based or full time apprenticeship in Certificate II in Hairdressing. Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics, delivered at ClipJoint Education, is an entry-level program into the beauty industry. This course offers aspiring make-up artists the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of various make-up application and essential techniques of make-up artistry to allow them to work in a cosmetic retail environment or freelance work as a Make-up Artist. The course includes a practical photo shoot and the students will receive a portrait for their portfolio. Music Production Short Course Programs with potential SACE credits at

the Flexicentre (Montgomery Rd Kilburn)

Music Performance Specialisation provides students with the opportunity to apply a broad range of knowledge and skills in varied work contexts in the music industry. Students will work towards composing simple songs or musical pieces and preparing for performances and performing as part of a group or a soloist. Students will gain competencies that will enhance their employment opportunities within the music industry and a recognised qualification that will assist them in making a more informed choice when considering vocational/career pathways Avenues College Length: 12 months) RTO: College of Sound and Music Production SACE Credits: 20-50 credits (Stage 2)

Motor Vehicle Learners Permit This program is run in partnership with Service SA and provides 3 days of driver and vehicle awareness training. On successful completion student's receive their Learners. Students may be eligible for 10 Stage 1 credits through a SACE Community Learning interview. Talk to your school's SACE coordinator to arrange this.

Barista Workshop IIFP (Independent Institute of Food Processing) deliver this 2 day course which provides two units of competency. On successful completion of the Barista Course students receive a certificate. Employment opportunities working in a cafe could be a possible outcome.

Tyre Fitting Auspiced by Bridgestone Australia, this 3 day course provides practical hands on experience with a range of tyres, rims and other equipment. Employment in the industry as a tyre fitter is a possible outcome. SACE Credits: 10 (Stage 1)

White Card-Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry This course covers basic knowledge of the WHS legislative requirements, principles of risk management and the prevention of injury and illness in the construction industry.

How Do I Apply For A NEVO VET Course?

Step 1 Read the information in this brochure.

Step 2 Read the detailed VET Course information for the course/s you are interested in and encourage your caregivers to read this too. This information is available for each course on our website (www.nevo. sa.edu.au) under NEVO –VET Courses.

Step 3 Download and fill in an Expression of Interest Form from the web-site (www.nevo.sa.edu.au). This form needs to be forwarded to the VET Coordinator for an interview appointment.

Step 4 At your interview you will be provided with all the information and an NEVO Enrolment Form, which needs to be signed by your caregiv-ers, yourself and the VET Coordinator. This will then be forwarded to the Host School for approval of acceptance. Selection for entry to NEVO VET Courses will be based on the following principles: •Demonstrate capacity for independent learning and meeting the requirements of the course. •Identified relevant interest and/or experience in the course.

Step 5 Applicants will be advised of the enrolment outcome term4.

Step 6 Applicant may need some further subject counselling at their Home School to ensure that the VET Course is included in their SACE and timetable.

Partnerships For Learning NEVO is a partnership made up of Department for Education and non-Department for Education secondary schools, which provide a wide range of Vocational Education (VET) and Training courses to Year 10, 11 and 12 students in North East Adelaide. The job-related courses will increase pathway options for students through the provision of VET choices linked to the Industry Pathways Program. NEVO provides curriculum and learning choices, which support all students in these schools to achieve the SACE and to provide pathways, which lead all students to further education, training and/ or employment. Department for Education and non-Department for Education school students can enrol in NEVO VET courses which are hosted by schools and Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s). Students stay enrolled at their Home School, and attend The Host School or RTO for their NEVO VET course.

What Are The Benefits Of Choosing A NEVO VET Course? • Gaining a nationally-recognised qualification while completing

your SACE. • Getting a Head start in your chosen career. • Making your senior school study more relevant and interesting. • Providing opportunities to learn ‘on the job’ through workplace

learning. • Gaining the skills and knowledge that employers look for. • Providing pathways into apprenticeships, traineeships

(including School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships) further education and training and direct employment.

Upon completion of a NEVO VET Course, students wishing to continue their training pathway can do so through continuing with a higher certificate if available or a School-Based Apprenticeship or a Flexible Apprenticeship in year 12.

The Training Guarantee for SACE Students (TGSS): SACE students can undertake VET training at an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in certain qualifications, and have a guaranteed training place after completing SACE to finish the qualification they have started. Can It Count Towards SACE? The flexibility of the SACE enables students to include a significant amount of VET in their SACE studies. SACE credit information for each NEVO VET Course is available in this brochure and on the NEVO website (www. nevo.sa.edu.au). Your VET Coordinator and\or the SACE Board website (https://www.sace.sa.edu.au/web/vet) can provide additional information about VET in the SACE.

Will I Need To Do Some Workplace Learning As Part Of My VET Course? Many VET courses require students to undertake Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). This involves learning opportunities related to your VET course in a real or simulated workplace. These placements provide on-the-job training and mentoring to develop your technical and employability skills. SWL also provides opportunities-for on-the-job assessment as part of your VET course. Before participating in workplace learning you will need to complete a workplace learning agreement form, which needs to be signed by your Home School Principal, Care Givers, yourself and the workplace employer.

Will I Have To Pay To Participate In A NEVO VET Course? Your Home School VET Coordinator can provide you with information on costs and any available funding. Some courses may require you to purchase specific equipment or materials. Detailed VET Course cost information is available on the NEVO website (www.nevo.sa.edu.au).
