• We intend to introduce apps and web-based tools that can help with reading and writing and provide an opportunity to explore these tools

• Predictive keyboard feature displays suggestions to users as they type

• Suggested words based on spelling and context

• Think about what you are going to say.• Dictate in short sentences and phrases but make them complete sentences• Dictation feature only lasts 30-40 seconds.• Dictate in quick, short bursts.• Don’t forget you can add punctuation as you speak.• If you can, edit as you speak.• Practice makes perfect.• Avoid noisy environments and use a microphone if possible.

Research Shows That…Text to Speech (TTS) helps some readers comprehend better

• Best for slower readers with good vocabulary and comprehension• May actually limit comprehension for fluent readers

If text doesn’t make sense to a student, hearing it read aloud won’t improve comprehension

Once there was a volcano and it couldn’t erupt. The volcano got wet and it hardened the lava. That’s why the volcano couldn’t erupt. The volcano sunk. It sunk so deep into the earth that the lava started to get soft. The volcano started to get hot. It started to sweat. It started to erupt. The people came to it and said, “Wow, I didn’t think the volcano would ever erupt!” The volcano felt much better. The end.
