“Christ in our Home” and “The Word in Season” Devotionals

Summer issues in regular and large print versions are available on the Welcome Center Wall. Please help yourself!

Lord’s Prayer “In the Episcopal Order of Worship, the priest sometimes introduces the Lord’s Prayer with the words, 'Now, as our Savior Jesus Christ has taught us, we are bold to say….” The word bold is worth thinking about. We do well to pray not to pray the word lightly. It takes guts to pray it at all. We can pray it in the unthinking and perfunctory way we usually do only by disregarding what we are saying. ‘Thy will be done,” is what we are saying. That is the climax of the first half of the prayer. We are asking God to be God. We are asking God to do not what we want but what God wants……Boldness indeed…..You need to be bold in another way to speak the second half. Give us. Forgive us. Don’t test us. Deliver us. If it takes guts to face that omnipotence that is God’s, it takes perhaps no less to face the impotence that is ours. We can do nothing without God. Without God we are nothing. It is only the words ‘Our Father’ that makes the prayer bearable. If God is indeed something like a Father, then as something like children maybe we can risk approaching him anyway.’”

Frederick Buechner, Listening to Your Life. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Scoops Social Thursday, June 4, 7:00pm

Incoming 9th-12th Graders, join Robbie Cape at Scoops. Robbie’s treating you to ice cream to celebrate the start of summer vacation!

Vacation Bible School July 27-31, 2015; 8:30-11:30am

Ever wonder what Jesus was like as a kid? His mom, Mary can sure tell some stories…like about His incredible birth, or the time the family traveled to Jerusalem for Passover. And wait ‘til you hear what the neighbors in Nazareth thought of the Carpenter’s son! Your kids are about to get the “behind-the-scenes” stories, straight from Mary! When God sent Jesus to earth, it wasn’t as a king who lived in a palace, surrounded by servants and wealth. Jesus grew up in a small town, the son of a common carpenter. As kids hear Mary share about Jesus, they’ll discover that God’s Son faced many of the same things we do today, and understands the hard things we go through. This summer get the whole story. Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus Was a Kid!

VBS is for children ages 3.5 (and potty trained) through children entering 4th grade in the fall. Youth entering 5th grade and beyond may participate by being Junior or Senior Crew Leaders or station assistants.

VBS is one of our biggest ministries and, for the most part, it is run by volunteers. Parents, we need your help! There are volunteer opportunities with kids, away from kids, prior to and during the week of VBS for you to serve! If you can help all five mornings—great! If you can help a few mornings, that’s great too! Registration forms are on the sign up table in the Narthex or you can register online from Peace’s website. Volunteers, you can register there too!

Mother’s Day Craft Thank You Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the Mother’s Day craft project on Sunday, May 10! It went smoothly with your help!

Our thanks to Joost Borggreve, Jeremy Churchill, Tricia Davis, Kim Gehant, Dimitri and Daina Sivanich, Andy and Michelle Stockinger, Riley Thoen, Jackie Waller.

PS2

Ever wondered what it would be like to sing in a choir, but just can’t make the

weekly rehearsal commitment? Peace Summer Singers (PS2) is the answer! PS² sings 5 or 6 Sundays during the summer worship schedule – with a “come to rehearsal at 8:45, sing at 9:30” commitment expectation. We would love to have as many people as possible each Sunday. You don’t have to make more than a “hey---I can be there this Sunday” commitment. Young, old, all are welcome. Join us! Want to be added to the email list so you know which days we're singing? Email MaryLynn Mennicke at [email protected].

Jon and Anita Young’s Farewell Service and Reception Sunday, June 7, 9:30am

Join us for a very festive worship service honoring Jon and Anita Young’s 32 years of service to us at Peace. The service will feature beloved music, the Peace Choir, Peace Symphonic Wind Orchestra and will honor Jon and Anita’s contributions to Peace. Please stay after the service for fellowship!

Hello church family! We recently had our first Children, Youth and Family Committee meeting. I am very excited about the passion that exists here for kids and the future of the church.

I have been listening to quite a bit of Christian rap lately. There is a song by Trip Lee, Sweet Victory, that says: The victor ain't the one that's winning seventh inning; Trophies don't go to the ones that got a good beginning.

Other than the obvious grammar issues, Trip Lee hits the nail on the head for us. Life is a difficult game. To win, you need as good of a start, middle and end as possible. We are here to give the kids and youth solid opportunities to have God-experiences in elementary, middle and high school.

We are currently in the process of looking at where we are and where we would like to be. We understand that our baptism and the lifelong process of living into the reality of our baptism is important in this process. We understand that baptism tells us the truth about ourselves as children of God and how to be brothers and sisters to one another.

Please continue to pray for God's guidance and for the youth of Peace!

God bless, Robbie

Dressers remain the highest demand item at Bridging, and the ones we assembled will be gone in a couple of days.

June Outing to Lake Harriet Neighborhood and Lyndale Rose Garden Peace adults are invited to enjoy a morning in the Lake Harriet neighborhood, first with a trip to the Lyndale Park Rose Garden and then lunch and shopping in Linden Hills on Wednesday, June 24. We'll leave Peace at 9:00am, and return by 1:30pm.

The 1946 Lyndale Park Rose Garden is the second oldest public rose garden in the United States. Situated in the 64-acre Lyndale Park, the 1.5 acre rose garden contains 3,000 plants with more than 250 varieties.

In the heart of the Linden Hills neighborhood, we'll have brunch at The Zumbro Cafe. Their breakfast and lunches are legendary, combining fresh and locally sourced ingredients in dishes that put a healthy new spin on favorites they've served for nearly 20 years. After brunch, we'll allow time for a little shopping at stores within walking distance. These well-known shops include Bibelot, The Great Harvest Bread Company, and the children's book store Wild Rumpus (it's fun for adults, too).

Please sign up at the Welcome Center Wall or by calling the church office. Questions may be directed to Denise Thoen at 952-942-5936.

PLC Women and Finance are hosting Paint Nite on Thursday, June 4th, 7:00pm! Not familiar with Paint Nite or don’t think you can create a masterpiece in two hours? With the PaintNite Artist leading the group, anyone can find their hidden artistic talent! All supplies are provided along with step-by-step instructions from a local artist. We will be painting “Under the Red Tree”. There will be snacks and beverages too! It’s usually not messy, but you may want to wear casual clothes that you wouldn’t mind if it got a little extra splash of color.

PLC Women and Finance remain committed to sharing financial gifts through Kiva loans, BestPrep, and others in need. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly to these efforts. If you have additional questions or are still interested in registering, please contact Mary Kautto ([email protected]).

Feel free to share this event with colleagues, friends and family for a creative evening of adult fellowship that will also be helping others. See you on June 4th at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall!
