Ganga Utsav 2020

Under the Project “Involvement of Youth in Namami Gange Programme”, Nehru

Yuva Kendra Sangathan in the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,

West Bengal conducted activities during Ganga Utsav that was celebrated from

2nd November to 4th November 2020 in collaboration with National Mission for

Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The three day festival aims to raise awareness on the need for keeping the river

clean and to focus on preservation of ecology and environment by conducting

various activities especially involving youth and children to create awareness to

mobilize one and all in this most important cause of water conservation and river

rejuvenation.

NMCG organized Ganga Utsav through vitual platform on 4th November where

renowned celebrities from various walk of life have been performing on the

subject related to Ganga and its rejuvenation efforts. These activities will include

music performances, dance performance, storytelling shows, screening of films on

Ganga, Ganga Quiz, interaction with experts on water rejuvenation etc. These

activities were designed keeping in mind the relevance of river Ganga and the

need for keeping it clean and healthy so that this message can be taken to all

parts of the country to create public awareness on the need for Ganga

rejuvenation.

In the state of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh,

Bihar and West Bengal have registered a huge number of registrations for

Ganga Utsav-2020 by Ganga Doots, Youth Club Members and Spearhead Team

Members.

Various activities were undertaken viz. Awareness Generation, Nukkad Natak,

Ganga Aarti, Cleanliness Drive, Online Ganga Quiz, Plantation, Ganga Run,

Ganga Utsav live webinar, Rally, Drawing Competition, Ganga Geet, Oath

Ceremony, Mini Marathon, Painting Competition, Slogan Writing, Sports

Activities etc.

The coordinating Agencies were District Administration, Swachh Bharat

Mission, PRIs, Forest Departments, BSA, DIOS, School, Colleges, NGOs, Gram

Sabha, Youth Clubs, Nagar Palika, Wildlife Department, Ganga Vichar Manch,

Municipal Department and Education Department, Namami Gange Prakosht,

Maa Sharda Ganga Samiti etc.

2nd November 2020

On the first day of celebration of Ganga Utsav, 2nd November 2020, various

programmes were organized in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and

Bihar. All the important and necessary preventive measures steps against

COVID-19 were taken into consideration and the guidelines were strictly

enforced throughout the entire duration of the event.

Uttar Pradesh –

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Uttar

Pradesh organized in 17 districts

covered under Namami Gange

Programme, 101 awareness generation

activities in which 3152 persons were

involved, including Ganga Doots,

Youth Club Members, Local NGO,

Spearhead Team Member, Ganga

Vichar Manch, Ganga Samitis, Forest

Department, Swachh Bharat Mission,

Ganga Praheries.

47 Cleanliness Drives were undertaken in which 1170 persons participated, 28

Ganga Aarti, Ganga Geet activities were organised in which 848 people were

involved, 6 Ganga Marathon were also conducted in which 316 persons

participated, 11 Ganga Oath taking ceremony were organized in which 365

persons participated, 13 Nukkad Natak were organized 567 persons were

involved, 2 Online Ganga Quiz were organized in which 270 persons

participated, 145 saplings were planted.

Uttarakhand –

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Uttarakhand

organized in 3 districts covered under Namami

Gange Programme, 3 awareness generation

activities were undertaken in which 109 persons

were involved, including Ganga Doots, Youth Club

Members, National Youth Volunteers, District

Administration, Ganga Samiti, Nagar Nigam, Being

Bhagirathi, Forest Department.

3 Ganga Aarti activities were undertaken in which

120 people were involved, 3 Cleanliness Drives

were undertaken in which 102 persons

participated, awareness message disseminated to

453 persons through Social Media.

Bihar–

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Bihar organized

in 5 districts covered under Namami Gange

Programme, 48 awareness generation activities

were undertaken in which 1313 persons were

involved, including Ganga Doots, Youth Club

Members, National Youth Volunteers, Yasna

Foundation, Ganga Rishi Sasthan, Ganga Lakshmi

Yuva Mandal.

1 Ganga Aarti was organised in which 24 persons participated. 111 saplings

were planted. 8 Cleanliness Drives were undertaken in which 80 persons

participated, 1 Ganga Geet & Oath taking ceremony activities were undertaken

in which 50 people were involved.

West Bengal–

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, West

Bengal organized in 2 districts covered

under Namami Gange Programme, 2

awareness generation activities were

undertaken in which 125 persons were

involved, including Ganga Doots,

Youth Club Members, National Youth

Volunteers.

Rally, Drawing Competition, Cultural Programme were also organised in which

157 persons participated.

The event was celebrated with Classical music, dance, lectures on Ganga festival

etc. Namami Ganga, District Project Officer Reema Samanta, Dumurdaha

Panchayat Upa Pradhan Shayamapada Ray, Panchayat Member was present in

this programme.

3rd November 2020

On the second day of celebration of Ganga Utsav, 3rd November 2020, various

programmes were organized in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and

Bihar.

Uttar Pradesh –

Nehru Yuva Kendra

Sangathan, Uttar Pradesh

organized in 17 districts


Programme, 104 awareness

generation activities were

undertaken in which 5224

persons were involved,

including Ganga Doots, Youth

Club Members, Local NGO,

Spearhead Team Member,

District Administration,

Ganga Vichar Manch, Ganga Samitis, Forest & Wildlife Department, School,

Colleges, Nagar Palika, Panchayati Raj, SPMG, Ganga Praheries, Maa Sharda

Ganga Samiti, Gram Sabha, Municipality, BSA, DIOS.

52 Ganga Aarti were organised in which 930 people participated. 56 Cleanliness

Drives were undertaken in which 1052 persons participated. 3 Drawing,

Painting Competition organized in which 100 persons involved. 3 Nukkad Natak

were undertaken in which 315 persons were involved. An online Ganga Quiz was

also conducted in which 375 persons participated. 81 saplings were planted.

Uttarakhand –

where in 55 persons participated. Online

competition was conducted between 51

persons.

4th November 2020

On the third day and last day of celebration of Ganga Utsav, 4th November 2020,

various programmes were organized in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West

Bengal, and Bihar.

Uttar Pradesh –

Drives were undertaken in which 1047 persons participated. An online Ganga

Quiz was also conducted in which 270 persons participated. 6 Ganga Marathon

were undertaken in which 599 persons involved. 11 Oath taking ceremony were

undertaken in which 365 persons participated. 7 Nukkad Natak were

undertaken in which 418 persons were involved. 119 saplings were planted.

13 Cleanliness Drives were undertaken in which 124 persons participated. 5

taking ceremony were conducted where in 353 persons involved. 42 saplings

were planted. A sports tournament was also organized in which 22 youth

participated. Awareness message disseminated to 1498 persons through Social

Media. Diya decoration programme was also conducted during the Ganga Utsav

in the districts of Bihar State.

West Bengal–

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, West Bengal organized in 4 districts covered

under Namami Gange Programme, 7 awareness generation activities were

undertaken in which 190 persons were involved, including Ganga Doots, Youth

Club Members, National Youth Volunteers.

13 Cleanliness Drives were undertaken in which 163 persons participated. 2

Drawing Competitions were also organised in which 41 persons participated. 2

Ganga Aartis were organised in which 137 persons participated. 2 Ganga Rallies

were also conducted in which 92 persons participated. 2 Nukkad Natak

organized in which 31 persons were involved. 6 oath taking ceremony was also

conducted where in 89 persons participated. 2 painting competition was

conducted between 65 persons. 63 saplings were planted

Viewership & Registration of Ganga Utsav-2020

This year Ganga Utsav, 2020 was organised virtually by the National Mission for

Clean Ganga (NMCG) jointly with the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The three-day-long

Ganga Utsav-2020 has been organised from 02 to 04 November 2020, virtually

amidst COVID-19 precautions.

Days before the start of the event, NYKS officials, Youth volunteers, ganga

doots, friends and family were encouraged to register on www.gangautsav.in and

participate during the event, not only in 29 Districts of 4 States covered under

the project but among all the States/UTs.
