    From the Principal

    Our Vision

At Cudgegong Valley Public School we do our best by being responsible learners, who are safe and respectful.

Meet the Band session We are continuing to grow our CVPS school bands this year. All existing students will progress to the Senior Band, which means we are on the hunt for Beginner Band students! On Wednesday this week, all of Year 2 and any new students in Year 3-6 who are interested in finding out more about band will attend a ‘Meet the Band’ presentation in the school hall. In order to keep them this way and to allow the grass to continue to grow can I please ask everybody to ensure they walk on the paths and not on the grass when entering and exiting the front of the school. Student Investiture

It was wonderful to be able to induct 31 of our students today into our Student Leadership Team for 2019. (photos to come shortly on our website and Facebook page) This team will be led by our 8 School Councillors who will be

attending a Leadership Day at Red Hill EEC next Tuesday along with Mrs Hogben and the Student Leaders from Mudgee Public and Gulgong Public. • Inter School Sport 2019 We’re gearing up for another big year of sport at CVPS in 2019. This year we have entered competitive teams in the following NSWPSSA State-wide Knockout Competitions: Australian Football (boys and girls), Cricket (boys and girls), Football/Soccer (boys and girls), Netball (girls), Rugby League (boys), Rugby Union (boys), Softball (boys and girls), Tennis (boys and girls), Touch (boys and girls).

Voluntary Contributions Accompanying this week’s newsletter is a note regarding the 2019 Voluntary Contributions. This year we have included the cost of two incursions; Musica Viva and Brainstorm Productions as well as a subscription to Reading Eggs for each student into the voluntary contributions to try and lessen the constant asking for money when events come up. Expression of Interest for relieving General Assistant Due to unforeseen circumstances we are calling for a second round of Expression of Interest for the relieving GA position at the school. This position is for 20 hours a week. An expression of interest addressing the criteria, of no more than 1 page in length should be submitted, along with a CV briefly outlining qualifications, recent employment history and relevant skills to Michelle Neaverson-Smith, Principal at [email protected] by 5pm on Thursday 21st February, 2019. Please ensure to include two referees who are familiar with you and able to discuss your professional abilities and suitability for this position. A copy of the expression of Interest can be collected from the Front Office or found on the school’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cvpsmudgee Food Allergies At CVPS we have students who suffer from a variety of

food allergies. We all need to be aware of these

students and know how to help them at school and

when visiting friends or attending parties. For more

    information go to www.allergyfacts.org.au

What does being a MATE mean?

    It means taking allergy seriously.

If you know someone with an allergy:

Don’t tease or joke about it.

Don’t try to make them sick by giving them the food they are allergic to.

Never share your food with them.

    Wash your hands after eating.

Ask them about what they are allergic to and help them avoid it.

Get help from an adult if someone with allergy feels sick, even if they don’t want you to. Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease We have been notified of a case of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease within the school. Please refer to the following page for the factsheet which outlines the symptoms and treatment. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Factsheets/handfootmouth.pdf Michelle Neaverson-Smith Principal

Please note that talented girls can participate in boys Rugby League and Union, likewise talented boys are able to participate in girls Netball competitions. Knockout draws and play-by dates are organised centrally by the NSWPSSA and will be known in the next few weeks. The first teams for 2019 will be our school Tennis, Australian Football and Cricket teams. Try-outs for these teams will be held shortly and will be notified in the newsletter. Representative Sport Representative sport begins with our Swimming Carnival this week. The top 3 placegetters in each event are eligible to attend the Zone Trials to be held at Gulgong Pool on Wednesday 27

    th February.

Talented athletes may trial for Zone and Western representation in their chosen sport. Upcoming Zone trials this term are:

Successful students will then compete at Western trials (see below). Individual students can attend the following Western trials this term:

*As part of Cudgegong Zone side Students successful in Western trials are expected to attend the relevant State Carnival for their sport. Biennale This is our Biennale Year. At Cudgegong Valley, the Biennale is an opportunity for students to share their creativity with families and friends. Singing, dancing, music, film, poetry, drama and visual arts will all be on

display. Biennale will help us celebrate Education Week during Term 3. As this is a major event on our school calendar, we are seeking a member of the school community to join in with the planning and organisation. Currently we have an initial meeting scheduled for Monday 18th February between 3:30pm and 4:30pm in the 5/6D classroom. If you would like the opportunity to share your ideas and creativity we would love to hear from you. Please contact the school office (63723466) or Ms da Roza. [email protected]

Garden Club Our school proudly boasts a productive vegetable garden which was established by parents 5 years ago. The garden provides a 'living classroom' for any interested students from Years 1-6 during lunchtime one day a week. Parents run this garden session teaching the kids how to sow seeds, improve soil, compost organic waste. The garden is also used by teachers and individual classes for other curricular activities. Any parents, carers, grandparents, and teachers are welcome to make use of the school garden. You can help out with the weekly Garden Club Session (our regular weekday will be confirmed shortly) or come any day to potter and keep it looking lovely. P.S. It's a nice activity with your pre-schooler straight after drop-off... hook up with another parent and enjoy a morning out! Send the Garden Crew a message on Facebook or contact via the School for a brief chat and induction with one of the coordinators. Happy 2019!

P&C News Hi everyone! This is the first P&C newsletter for 2019. The P&C would like to extend a warm welcome to all the new families joining CVPS this year. There are two ways to find out about what your school P&C are up to. One is this weekly newsletter, the other is the P&C Facebook site. Please follow us on Cudgegong Valley Public School P&C Association. The School Canteen and Uniform Shop are managed by the P&C so if you have any questions for Tina Barnes and Judy Hopson, you can contact them via the Facebook page. P&C meetings are held on the 3

    rd Thursday of every

month and we encourage parents and carers to come along. Our school principal Mrs Neaverson-Smith, Tina Barnes from the Canteen, and Judy Hopson from the Uniform shop attend the meetings. It is a great forum for finding out more about our school, how everything works and what is planned for the future. Our meetings are relaxed and open, so they are also a great place to meet other parents and ask the questions you need answered. February Meeting Out first meeting for the year will be next Thursday, 21st February at 7pm in the staff room. We are keen to see some new faces in the room and the time is right for the new wave of parents to take over. The current executive is all standing down at the AGM in March, as their children have all moved on to High School. Come along to the February meeting and see what it is all about. Plans for the year ahead will be discussed as well as discussion and confirmation of Term 1 events such as the School disco. Please be aware that without support at the February meeting events such as Discos, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, coffee and cake stalls, and canteens at carnivals are less likely to go ahead. Notice of AGM P&C AGM Thursday, 21

st March at 6.30pm in the

School staffroom. All welcome. Regards, Jenni Buckley
