I will do this to get a certain result or

to prevent an unwanted result.

I will do this because Jesus would do it or because my church

says so.

I will do this because it is

right.

Three reasons to restore relationships

1. Because it matters to God

– Wrong relationships affect your relationship with God.

2. Because it’s an order

– You are commanded to restore relationships.

3. Because it affects your witness

– You are to restore right relationships as a witness to the unsaved world.

SHAME BLAME

THE BALANCE GAME

People blame others

for things they are

ashamed of.

They will feel shame and

seek to balance the scale again

by:

If they can keep shame and blame in balance, they feel O.K. about

themselves.

When you confess your wrongs, they

won’t be able to accept your

confession and continue to blame you.

As long as they can blame

others, they don’t have to feel shame.

1. Asking your forgiveness and thereby ridding themselves of

shame. Or

2. Refusing to accept your confession so

they can continue to blame you and keep the scales balanced

• Which of these roles is the most difficult for you to carry out?

1. Asking forgiveness when you are the offender.

2. Seeking reconciliation when you have been offended.

3. Acting as a peacemaker.

10/9/11 Warren Wang

When you are the offender
