2019 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GENERAL INFORMATION The FIA Formula One World Championship is the most prestigious and popular racing series on the planet. It dates back to 1950, the current season is the landmark 70th. In addition, this year’s Chinese Grand Prix was the landmark 1000th FIA Formula One World Championship race. In 2019, there are 10 teams competing in world championship with two cars each. Each team must independently develop its chassis, while the engines can be supplied by a third-party manufacturer. The monocoque is made of carbon fiber and composite materials and is designed to withstand maximum loads while having minimum weight. Engine: turbocharged 1.6-litre V6. Energy recovery systems are used. Total power of the power unit exceeds 950hp. Minimum weight of a car without fuel is 740kg. The FIA Formula One World Championship is held every year and consists of separate rounds, having the Grand Prix status (the 2019 season comprises 21 rounds with the Russian Grand Prix being the 16th). At the end of a year, the winners are determined for the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. The FIA Formula One World Championship driver's title will be awarded to the driver who has scored the highest number of points, the best team will be awarded the FIA Formula One World Championship Constructor’s title. Lewis Hamilton is the reigning world champion, and the Mercedes team was crowned the Constructors’ Champions last year. Daniil Kvyat competing for Toro Rosso is representing Russia in the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship. Race Weekend Format Each of the 21 rounds of the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship consists of three days. A race weekend starts on Friday with two 1.5-hour practice sessions (at the Grand Prix de Monaco they take place on Thursday). One more 1-hour practice session takes place on Saturday followed by a qualifying session. Saturday’s qualifying consisting of three elimination segments determines the starting grid for Sunday’s race. At the end of Q1 which lasts for 18 minutes the five slowest drivers are eliminated from qualifying and the rest advance to Q2 (it lasts for 15 minutes), at the end of which the ten fastest drivers get a chance to fight for pole position in the final segment (12 minutes). A race takes place on Sunday. Its distance is at least 305km (the only exception is the Grand Prix de Monaco) and duration does not exceed two hours. The top ten finishers score points, according to the following scale: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. In addition, one point will be awarded to the driver who achieved the fastest lap of the race, provided he was in the top ten positions of the final race classification. 2019 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CHANGES IN THE REGULATIONS FOR 2019
Aerodynamics: in 2019, the Formula 1 cars got a whole number of aerodynamic updates. The front wing became much simpler, 200mm wider and 20mm higher. The barge boards directing the flow around the car were simplified as well — the barge boards became smaller. Compared to 2018, the Formula 1 car rear wing became 20mm higher and 100mm wider. The DRS opening was increased by 20mm. Car weight and fuel: the minimum weight of the Formula car, without fuel, in 2019 went up slightly from 733kg to 740kg. In addition, the drivers may now use up to 110kg of fuel in a race, while last year the allowance was 105kg. Driver weight: the minimum weight of a driver in 2019 is 80kg. The drivers who weigh less have to compete in Grands Prix with ballast making up for the difference. This was done to deprive small and light athletes of advantages over the tall and heavy ones. Tyres: in 2019, Pirelli decided to divide all its dry-weather tyres into five categories from C1 (the hardest) to C5 (the softest). Only three of them are used at each championship event. They have markings of the respective colour – red for Soft, orange for Medium, white for Hard. However, tyre specifications may vary depending on the characteristics of the Grand Prix. Biometric gloves: in 2019, each driver competes in special gloves, which in real time monitor such indicators of the driver’s body as his pulse and the amount of oxygen in his blood. This was done so that in case of an accident, the rescue team can receive data on the status of the driver as quickly as possible. Helmets: The FIA developed a new racing helmets standard for 2019. These helmets have ballistic protection and high-level energy absorption, they are made of special composite materials, which are crush resistant. The front of the visor has been lowered by 10mm to reduce the risks associated with impact from debris. Additional lights: additional lights on the F1 car rear wing endplates were introduced in 2019. This was done to increase visibility of cars during wet sessions. Overtaking on race restarts: overtaking on race restarts is not allowed until a driver has crossed the finishing line – rather than the earlier safety car line as previously. Fastest lap point: from 2019, the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race gets one extra point provided that he finished in the top ten. Scrutineering: from 2019, the teams conduct scrutineering themselves on Thursday (at the Monaco Grand Prix on Wednesday), after which they submit a declaration that they are in compliance with the technical regulations to the FIA. The FIA has the right to make random car checks during a Grand Prix. If there any breaches, the FIA can request to eliminate them or impose a penalty.

What will the Grand Prix be remembered for? The first half of the championship ended with the triumph of Lewis Hamilton. The leader of the season started third, but was able to quickly overtake his teammate Valtteri Bottas, and then set off in pursuit of Max Verstappen who was leading the race. It was more difficult for him to beat the Red Bull driver. Lewis was helped by an extra pit stop - he left the pits 20 seconds behind the leader, but the speed of the Mercedes car and fresh tyres allowed him not only to catch up with Max, but also to take away his first place.

SUPPORT RACES FORMULA 2 Formula 2 is the main formula championship for young drivers on the planet, the last step before Formula 1. The history of Formula 2 started at the end of 1940s. The FIA Formula 2 Championship was created in 2017 from GP2. In its short history, it has already established itself as the optimal training ground for the world’s most promising drivers, taking the final step on the way to Formula 1 - any driver’s main goal. George Russell was crowned the F2 champion last year. He got a well-deserved opportunity to get into F1, joining the Williams team in 2019. At the same time, the young Brit is a Mercedes Junior Driver, and perhaps he will one day get into the most decorated Formula 1 team of recent years. Lando Norris and Alexander Albon, who were second and third last season, also moved to F1. 10 teams are currently competing in the Formula 2 championship, each of them has two cars. All the competitors use the same cars. The Dallara F2 chassis meets all the Formula 1 safety requirements, including the Halo. The power unit is a 3.4L V6 turbo Mecachrome having up to 620hp. Pirelli continues to supply its tyres for the championship. They ensure a fantastic racing spectacle and require tyre saving skills drivers require to advance in the world of motorsport. The 2019 Formula 2 full-season competitors include Russian driver Nikita Mazepin driving for ART Grand Prix. Another Russian Artem Markelov competed for MP Motorsport in the Monaco round, and his fellow countryman Matevos Isaakyan will make his Formula 2 debut driving for Sauber Junior Team by Charouz in Sochi. Race Weekend Format On Friday there are a 45-minute practice session and a 30-minute qualifying session. The latter determines the starting grid for Saturday’s race which lasts for 170 km or 60 minutes. During the Saturday race each driver must make one compulsory pit stop. After it, the first ten finishers score points, according to the following scale: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. The pole seater gets 4 points, and the fastest lap gives 2 points. Sprint Race is run over 120km or 45 minutes on Sunday. The grid is determined by the finishing order of the Saturday race: the top 8 positions are reversed, that means the driver, who finished eighth on Saturday, will start from the first position, and the winner – from the eighth position. The top eight Sunday finishers score points as following: 15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. The driver who sets the fastest lap scores 2 points. If the driver who set the fastest lap finished the race outside the top 10, the driver who has the fastest lap time among those who finished in the top 10 gets 2 points.

SUPPORT RACES FORMULA 3 Formula 3 is a new feeder series for Formula 2 and Formula 1. Formula 3 dates back to the late 1940s – early 1950s. In 2019, the FIA Formula 3 Championship is held for the first time since the merger between the GP3 Series and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. 10 teams are competing in it, they have 30 cars in total. This is the maximum number of cars that can fit on the starting grid at many circuits. All the competitors use the same cars. The Dallara F3 chassis is equipped with a 380hp 3.4 six-cylinder naturally aspirated Mecachrome engine. The cars also have the Halo head protection device which was not used in GP3 and the Formula 3 European Championship. Pirelli tyres are used. The 2019 Formula 3 full-season competitors include Russian driver Robert Shwartzman driving for PREMA Racing. Shwartzman is also part of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Another Russian driver Artem Petrov drove for Jenzer Motorsport in Bahrain. Race Weekend Format A race weekend consists of a 45-minute practice session and a 30-minute qualifying session on Friday and two races with a duration of up to 40 minutes, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. There are no compulsory pit stops in Formula 3. Qualifying determines the grid for the Saturday race. After it, the first ten finishers score points, according to the following scale: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. The pole seater gets 4 points, and the fastest lap in Race 1 gives 2 points. The Sunday race grid is determined by the finishing order of the Saturday race: the top 8 positions are reversed, that means the driver, who finished eighth on Saturday, will start from the first position, and the winner – from the eighth position. ENTERTAINMENT CONCERTS For three days in a row there will be concerts of Russian rock 'n' roll stars held in the Central Square of the Olympic Park. The admission will be free to all the 2019 Russian Grand Prix guests. The Leningrad band will kick off the musical programme on 27 September. Last year, Sergey Shnurov and his team already performed during the Grand Prix and gathered nine thousand people in the Bolshoy Ice Dome. It comes as no surprise that Leningrad, following an event guest survey, was found to be the most anticipated act this year. The concert during the Formula 1 event will be one of the few remaining opportunities to see the musicians from Saint Petersburg perform. The group is on a stadium tour now, which, according to the statement made by Sergey Shnurov, will become the last in its history. The Leningrad concert will start at 20:00. On 28 September, the Mumiy Troll band will come out on the stage in the Olympic Park. This summer, Ilya Lagutenko and his group released their new single “Summer without the Internet” and in October and November they will go on tour in the USA and Canada. The concert at Sochi Autodrom will be the only concert that the band from Vladivostok will give in Russia this autumn. It will start at 19:00. A performance by Diana Arbenina and The Night Snipers will wrap up the sixth Russian Grand Prix in style. Last year, the team celebrated its 25th anniversary and is now on an anniversary tour in Russia and abroad. And in July 2019, the team released its 10th studio album “The Unbearable Lightness of Being”. The Night Snipers concert will start at 18:00, after the Formula 1 race finishes. There will also be two concerts in the Sirius Science and Art Park, which media representatives can attend for free as spectators or to film them subject to sending a request. On 25 September, leading soloists of the Saint Petersburg House of Music Fedor Amosov (cello) and Andrey Telkov (piano) will perform as part of the Musical Inflorescence festival. On 27 September, there will be a concert of Otto Sauter and Ten of the Best. The band consists of musicians of the highest level from the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as other world-famous trumpeters from Europe, the USA, Mexico and Japan. Both concerts will start at 19:30. On 28 September, the Radisson Blu Resort & Congress Centre will host the Mercedes-Benz Star Night official party featuring Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and first Russian Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov. It will include performances by Grammy nominee Craig David and Black Star record label singer Nazima. The event will start at 20:00. FESTIVAL OF THRILL AND ENGINES During four days of the Russian Grand Prix in the Olympic Park, the Festival of Thrill and Engines will be held on three sites. The Sochi Gymkhana Challenge drift and gymkhana competitions will take place as part of the festival. They will feature Arkadiy Tsaregradtsev, Nikita Shikov, Fedor Vorobyev and many other famous Russian drivers. The sessions will be held on a parallel track, where two drivers will be constantly drifting. Separate competitions of prepared drift and Zhiguli cars are planned, as well as super finals among the strongest in each class. Another site will host a show by the FMX-13 freestyle motocross team and the Legend Stunt Team stunt riding team. These are the strongest teams in Russia and one of the best in Europe, their shows are constantly evolving and this year they will show new stunts at the festival. There will also be a site with radio-controlled cars, which will be twice as big as last year.
