Parkwood View Point
February 2016 A Friendly Community Newsletter
One of the things that has made America great is our willingness to help our neighbors. Americans help each other. We don’t do it because the government forces us. Instead we
do it because it is the right thing to do. It is the compassionate thing to do. We do it because it is built into our DNA as Americans. If someone falls down we don’t look the
other way, we rush over to help them.
And the American spirit of helping each other is so often exemplified at PARKWOOD. It
is sometimes done quietly with one neighbor reaching out to another neighbor. It is sometimes done in ways that are more visible. One of the visible demonstrations of
neighbors helping neighbors has been the Café Parkwood in Parkwood. The Community
Voice doesn’t do it for profit, they do it to help make sure their neighbors get a nutritious meal. They even deliver the meals to those who are not able to come to the
clubhouse. Thank you to the VIP’s and Community Voice. Your selfless acts of kindness are noticed and admired.
Yet unfortunately there are always a few who seem to be angry or jealous of the good deeds of others. Just recently someone filed a complaint against the weekly Café
Parkwood dinners with the Clallam County Health Department. The complaint included
unsubstantiated claims. There were claims that this is a “for profit” operation and avoiding required permits. The compliant and resulting investigation was quite disturbing
to the Community Voice, to Dale and Bethany, and to the Gibson Family. The Health Department has asked us to stop all meals while we wait for approval from the Olympia
offices. We have been working with them to do whatever it takes to keep Café Parkwood running. In the meantime, Café Parkwood is on hold until we get the final word. Our goal is to do whatever it takes to continue with this beneficial program. Once we receive more
information we will post flyers on the mail boxes to let everyone know.
So we say thank you not only to the Community Voice but also to everyone who helps
make PARKWOOD such a wonderful place to live by your kindness and good deeds to help you neighbor. God Bless you.
Dale, Bethany, and four generations of the Gibson Family.
Like us on Facebook! Parkwood has just joined the social media world! Its going too be a great way to
communicate to each other. Feel free to post photos, items for sale, local information, events and friendly
comments. Parkwood will be using it to keep you updated on community activities and news around the park.
COMMUNITY VOICE We hope you all have been able to get through the last few weeks of cold, ice and a few snowflakes, without any trouble.
Our electric bill was higher, had to put on more layers, almost fell flat on the ice in the driveway and our fur baby, Buddy,
had to run around the house, after a walk, to warm his feet but overall we can say we survived.
We are saddened that CAFÉ PARKWOOD is not operating right now. This closing also includes dinners to
those folks who couldn’t make it to the clubhouse or needed a home cooked meal to supplement their
weekly nourishment. Whoever filed a complaint to the health department didn’t hurt us, if that was what
you were trying to do, but hurt those who were thankful and grateful for a hot meal. Management if
working on getting this resolved and the owners are standing behind us, to do whatever is necessary to
get back on track. We will be serving again as soon as possible. When you see the Café Parkwood signs
back out at the entrance and by the clubhouse, then the signup sheets will be back up (new location…by
the rent payment slot outside the office). Blessings and thanks to all of you who provided help, donated
food and participated in this endeavor. We will keep you informed. WE WILL RETURN!
A topic we feel you may need to be reminded about is “Toilet Paper Only” down the toilet. January
6th’s Sequim Gazette ran an article asking residents to help keep water waste systems clear and func-
tioning. We are not on that system, but our septic tanks require upkeep and certain items can harm
their daily function. Please do not flush wipes, pre-moistened towelettes (for cleaning), paper towels,
cosmetic pads, dental floss, medical materials, prescription drugs or pour grease down the sink. There
has also been an issue with dry dish soap, used in dishwashers, finding its way into the tanks. Please
keep our systems functioning properly by flushing only body waste and toilet paper. Thank you for
your help to keep systems working.
RESIDENT COMMENTS… This is an excerpt from a letter received in the office on Jan. 12th from Bob & Joy
Barrett, who have lived here since 2003, addressed to neighbors and friends of Parkwood…”We have
heard enough. Who is “Anonymous”??? We have checked our resident list and have not found any Mr. &
Mrs. Anonymous. How are we supposed to take any comments, good or bad, seriously that are not
signed or signed “Anonymous”? How do we know if these comments have not all been written by the
same person? We personally could fill the comment box or newsletter with all kinds of comments not
signed or signed anonymous. Think about it folks, how seriously do you take something that someone
chooses not to sign their name to? How serious can the unsigned or anonymous really be about their
comments? ….Please voice your opinions. Where you choose to place your comments are up to you, but
please sign your comments…. There are a lot of things going on in Parkwood for everyone to enjoy,
whether you are someone who likes to be involved or someone who just wants to live quietly. Remember
we are not just residents, we are neighbors and friends.” If you wish to read the whole letter, it is posted in the
clubhouse on the Residents’ Board. As a reminder… Parkwood Viewpoint is written and published by park management;
Community Voice is written by residents who meet with management monthly; the Comment Box is at the clubhouse and is
checked often for your comments, etc. and ParkWord is put out by private individuals.

Dog Poo Reminder
None of us enjoy stepping on poo, and having to clean it off
our shoes. Parkwood grounds maintenance staff do not
enjoy having to clean the stinky goo out of their
machines. Please have consideration for them. When
walking your dogs, please remember to carry a poo
collection sack, and use it. If your guest or caregiver walks
your dog, please remember to equip him/her with a sack,
and encourage them to use it. And, if you routinely walk
around Parkwood, even if you do not have a dog, you
could help by carrying a poo sack to pick up any incidental
poo that you may encounter. Sometimes a dog owner may
forget or lose their poo sack, and also consider that not all
poo originates from dogs owned by Parkwood residents ...
there seem to be a few stray dogs that occasionally find
their way onto Parkwood premises. -Dennis Toth
As a neighbor, friend, member of CERT and the
Community Voice, I have a question for you…Do you have
enough flashlights in your life for emergencies? Places in
need: kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, garage, and
car. Please remember the extra batteries! Unless you have
battery operated candles, I feel candles could be a hazard.
Flashlights will not start a fire if knocked over, dropped or left
on, if you fall asleep. You may have to replace batteries once in
a while, but that is not as devastating as cleaning up after a
fire. Remember to put them in easy to get to places, if the lights
go out. Thanks for your time and hope this will be of help.
