Over the summer our school did seem like a beehive as the building was filled with workers who refinished our gym floor, painted our classrooms and hallways, repaired our brick façade and sidewalks, and completely transformed our bathrooms. (In truth, some of the hum may actually be coming from those bathrooms where students can't seem to get enough of using the new hand dryers. We're just happy they're washing their hands.) Teachers here 'stepped up' in the weeks before school began to re-locate their classrooms in order to cluster grade levels together, and our custodians worked nonstop get us ready for Opening Day. Their finishing touch was laying down a fifth coat of wax on all of our floors, which is well above and beyond the required three coats. 'Going above and beyond' is simply the norm at Parkway School, and I am delighted to lead a school filled with teachers and staff who will do whatever it takes to brighten the lives of children. I think one of our Kindergarten students summed it up best at the end of his first week. He told his mom he was so happy that he wished he could live at school. He said that all he would need is a microwave, a refrigerator...and his boat bed. In short, we are ship-shape and looking forward to another amazing year. HOW MANY BOOKS ARE THERE IN THE MEDIA CENTER?? There is a school-wide contestgoing on in the Media Center. During their media time, all students are invited to guess how manybooks actually live in our library. After everyone has had a chance to guess, the ballots will bereviewed and a winner will be announced. The winner will be the student who comes closest or

guesses exactly how many books we have. Good luck to all our estimators!

REMINDER: Now that we are a few weeks into school and students know how to get toclassrooms, please say your "Have a great day!" at the door, and have your child walkindependently to his/her classroom. Preschool parents walk their toddlers to classroom doors,and some Kindergarteners may need a little more time, but everyone else should have a highfive and a hug and be on the way!Unless you have a pre-arranged visit with the teacher, please do not walk your child to class.

Thanks for helping to foster independence...and get school started school on time!

Welcome back students and parents! I'd like to send out a few reminders from the health office. Iam located next to the main office and am here from 8:00am-3:30pm daily. If your child has any injuries, such as stitches, a fracture, sprain, or minor procedure done, pleaselet me know. The doctor will determine what level of activity your child may participate in and you

must bring a note to the office stating the same. We also require a note from the doctor for the child to returnto full activity. If your child is absent with a prolonged illness, please contact me. Please take note of the Guidelines for Childhood Illness policy and keep your children home if they have afever, unexplained rash, cold symptoms, or are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea. They must be fever/emesisfree for 24 hours before they return to school. I will be performing the following screenings in the fall. If you wish your child to NOT to be examined, pleaselet me know.Vision: Grades 1-5Hearing: Grades 1-5Scoliosis: Grade 5 girls only Jeannie Schnakenburg, the District's Dental Assistant, will be at Parkway starting Oct 20th for dentalscreenings for all grades. We love Mrs Jeannie! The Town of Greenwich requires a physical for the following grades: All new students (including Kindergarten)Grades 3, 6, and 10*3rd grade parents - please make an appointment for your child as soon as possible. SCHOOL STOREThe Parkway School Store is stocked with FRESH MERCH for the school year! We'reopen weekday mornings from 8:30 am until 8:45 am, so send your kids with their hard-earnedallowance money to buy the latest in pencil-toppers and trendy trinkets. If mom and dad are buying,

we have great Parkway t-shirts, shorts, sports pants and sweats starting at $10. Parkway gear makes forGREAT birthday and holiday gifts! All store proceeds go to PTA programs. The Parkway School Store is still looking for volunteers to run the store on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Thisis a 40-minute commitment, from 8:10 am until 8:50 am. No retail experience (or even basic math skills)necessary! Email Kristin Zisson for more information about this amazing opportunity.

BEFORES & AFTERS REGISTRATIONBefores & Afters registration materials were sent home last week in your child(ren)'s backpackand are also available on the PTA website. Registration runs from Sept 8th - 19th . There will be a $30 late fee after September 19th. All classes begin the week

Free Afters Classes: We are currently looking for volunteers to help monitor the Afters classes on Thursdayand Friday. No prior experience is necessary! DROP-IN BEFORESOur voucher based Drop-In Befores Program is available to all Parkway students in grades K-5.This program is run by Mr. Woodson in the gymnasium, Monday through Friday from 7:45-8:30am,while Befores/Afters are in session. Please find more information about the program and the
