FATHERS – FLAG DAY– FACEBOOK

This month we celebrate fathers on June 17th. So, I wish all the dads a Happy Father’s Day.

Tim Russert wrote the book, Wisdom of Our Fathers with refl ections from children and the impact their father had on their lives. I read this book as well as listen to it on long trips in the car. The messages from each individual’s perspective are both heartwarming and heart wrenching. It reminds me of the lessons of service, opportunity and perseverance my dad taught me and my hope of what I pass to my son.

Through the years, fatherhood has taken on many facets from the Greatest Generations war torn toughness to today’s kinder, gentler dad. What I learned from my dad is - you are what you do. That is, you make a life not by what you get, rather by what you give.

My dad was not able to provide much monetarily, but he did provide the example of the power of service to others. This is what creates opportunity and one’s legacy. Embracing this characteristic has been challenging and at times disadvantageous to me personally. Still, I believe, in the long run, it will produce benefi ts beyond my dreams.

I know there will be days when I stumble or when people try to knock me down, but I was taught to look up, get up and never give up!

Flag Day – When? Always June 14th! This is the day for all Americans, and those who have been given the opportunity to live here in the USA, to celebrate and show respect for our fl ag, its designers and makers as well as those men and women who protect, or paid the ultimate sacrifi ce for,

what the fl ag symbolizes. Our fl ag represents our independence and our unity as a nation - one nation, under God, indivisible. Our fl ag has a proud history and is known as an emblem of Liberty around the world.

So, no matter where you are from, I urge you to raise the American fl ag this month and every day with pride!

Speaking of raising the fl ag, Facebook will go public as one of the greatest images for what America represents – Opportunity. This is where one takes an idea to connect billions of people through digital channels and ultimately profi ts by its proliferation.

And, now you can buy popularity on the site. A Facebook spokesperson confi rmed last month the “pay to play” test going on in New Zealand. Capitalism at its best!

The service Facebook provides are numerous, from reconnecting lifelong friends to fostering business

transactions and it has even been credited for the rise of liberty in countries once dominated by dictators. Let’s hope it also serves a catalyst for positive change toward peace and global collaborations to bring opportunities for all humanity. After all, isn’t this the aspiration of all fathers for their children?

Happy Father’s Day – As Always – Enjoy the Lifestyle!

June marks the beginning of family travel season.

If you’re like us when you hit the road, you want to see something different, not just the usual tourist haunts.

Enter http://atlasobscura.com/, a website designed and curated to share the hidden sites of cities you may be visiting.

This endlessly fascinating and well curated site will enable you to dazzle your friends when you suggest some off the beaten path destinations.

Even if you “staycation,” Altas Obscura can make you seem like an expert.

The site has more than a dozen offbeat Florida locations to explore. Our favorite: “The Skunk Ape Research Headquarters” in the Everglades. Dave Shealy is the Jane Goodall of the Florida Everglades. Shealy has spent his entire life studying a smelly hominid cryptid known as the Skunk Ape, and has established the offi cial Skunk Ape Research Center.

So what is a Skunk Ape? Think of Florida’s version of Big Foot. Does it exist? That’s for you to decide, but you may want to visit Dave Shealy fi rst. He can be found in Ochopee, Florida.

Until next month.

A strong, successful healthcare company requires a strong visionary and strategic leader. Parkland’s own Pat Kennedy, President of Weatherby Healthcare and Group President of CHG Healthcare Services is hiring and growing business at a time when other companies are struggling.

Weatherby Healthcare, established in 1995, is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and has become a premier physician staffi ng company in the U.S. The business consultants at Weatherby match the right

physicians with the right healthcare facilities. The consultants are responsible for placing nearly two hundred healthcare professionals per month in more than forty specialties. At any given time, Weatherby Healthcare has approximately 1000 Physicians working throughout the entire nation.

Pat Kennedy arrived at Weatherby Healthcare in 2007 with more than 25 years of experience in the staffi ng industry. Before joining Weatherby, Kennedy presided over the Travel Nurse Division at Supplemental Health Care in Buffalo and held multiple leadership positions at Brandon Systems which was acquired by Spherion.

There’s a unique culture at Weatherby and they call it Red

Ribbon Service; it’s a personal commitment, a keen attention to detail. From placement to paperwork to patient care, whether the provider

is searching for a position or a facility is in need of fi lling one, the client’s success is a top priority to the team.

Through Pat’s leadership, the company has grown revenue and jobs in 2011. Seventy people were hired last year which was a thirty-two percent increase from the previous year. Additionally, thirty-eight of their leaders are currently in new roles and they promoted thirty new leaders as well. In 2012, there is already a twenty percent increase in job opportunities within the company.

The developmental process that a Weatherby Healthcare consultant follows yields an excellent outcome. Whereas competitors hire “recruiters,” Weatherby looks for individuals who possess the following attributes: personal accountability, performance-driven mentality, interpersonal skills—qualities that help ensure success on their way to becoming a true consultant.

In this role, they become experts in a particular specialty and take time to listen to the particular needs

of the physician and facility. After locating that perfect placement or candidate, the consultant continues to be available to the client twenty-four hours a day to negotiate travel expenses, housing, licensing, or simply give them directions to their new place of work. Help is always available.

Weatherby Healthcare beat out over three hundred competitors to claim the number one spot on Modern Healthcare’s prestigious list of the Best Places to Work in Healthcare, is ranked number two by the South Florida Business Journal as Best Places to Work, was awarded Inavero’s Best of Staffi ng for customer service by their clients and healthcare providers, and through CHG, is ranked number nine on Fortune’s Top 100 Best Companies to work for.

For more information on Weatherby Healthcare visit their website at: http://www.weatherbyhealthcare.com.

As one of the most recognizable names and faces of Coral Springs, family law attorney Scott J. Brook is someone who has witnessed many changes to the city over the years, and as a former mayor, played a key role in making it one of the most sought-after towns in the country.

Before he became mayor though, Scott opened his own family law practice to better serve the South Florida tri-county area. It’s where he was able to build his reputation as one of the tri-county’s most dedicated family lawyers. As a member of the Florida Bar, Scott has practiced successfully before the Florida Supreme Court, the First District Court of Appeal, the Judges of Compensation Claims of the Tri-County area, Collier County and Orange County as well as the Dade, Broward and Palm Beach State courts. Many of his former clients have called him one of the most “caring, heartfelt, and truly understanding” attorneys in the area.

Scott recalls one of his fondest memories during his early days as an

attorney, explaining: “It was a workers’ compensation case that I was defending for an uninsured employer. The issues were diffi cult and novel. I had a wonderful client, but it appeared that the law and facts were adverse to him. ”He adds: “Despite recommending settlement, he was confi dent that given his company’s size and the specifi c facts, that he should not be responsible for the fraudulent claim he thought was made against him. My opposing counsel was obstinate and diffi cult to deal with, to say the least. On the day of trial, I gave myself some extra time to attempt some creative research. I found two great cases and made a very creative legal argument that prevailed. My client was confi dent that we would win and we did!”

But it’s not only in the courtroom where Scott is able to make an impact. In 2003, he founded Premier Networking Alliance, a business referral and community service organization dedicated to help market businesses and serve communities raising money

for various charitable organizations. When asked what tips he could give

to would-be entrepreneurs who want to start a business in Coral Springs, he offers: “Make sure you are comfortable with risk and people saying “no.” Find others who are like-minded and spend time with them. Consider joining the Chamber of Coral Springs or PNA Entrepreneur. It is essential to get involved in the community and fi nd ways to give back (i.e. – the wonderful Sawgrass Nature Center or Drug Free Youth in Town). I believe the businesses and entrepreneurs that maintain a great track record of success in this great city have a great heart and enjoy helping our local community.”

His business-forward nature helped Scott become elected as Coral Springs mayor in 2006, and he served in that capacity until November 2010. To this day, he serves as founder and Chairman of the Coral Springs Customer Involved Government Committee, Parent Education Committee and is a member of the Financial Advisory Committee. But he does not believe a person’s time should all be spent at work. In fact, he’s a big believer in family values. Married to his wife Brenda, who he shares fi ve children with (Patrick, Tina, Matthew, A.J. and Samantha), Scott considers “Sunday dinners” as an occasion when families should set everything aside and spend much-needed quality time with the most important people in their lives. It’s the perfect moment for “sharing loving conversations with more focus on what’s good than on what’s missing, and being kind and respectful to others regardless of their differences.”

In the end, it’s the citizens and their families who make the city of Coral Springs great, according to Scott. And we have every reason to believe it. He adds, “From our government to the schools, from the retail businesses to the numerous volunteers in our City, our community is 100 percent family-friendly!”

While there’s no doubt that his services and dedication to his work as a lawyer and businessman have been much appreciated by those who have worked with him, there’s also a good reason why the city of Coral Springs was named one of the best towns to live in by Money Magazine back in 2010 -- Scott’s efforts and unending commitment to the booming community.

He’s gregarious, warm and funny. He’s kind and makes you feel connected to him instantly. A die-hard Florida Gator, an experienced deep sea fi sherman, a champion who is deeply committed to his causes, a vineyard owner and

a devoted parent. The word that resonates after our “get to know you” lunch is authentic. He is Paul Castronovo, host of syndicated radio’s Paul & Young Ron Show. Paul, along with “Young” Ron Brewer, has been on the air for more than twenty two-years in South Florida; the region’s longest-running radio show entertains and remains relevant to a generation of South Floridians and their children.

Back to authentic. We have all met and engaged with celebrities at one time or another. The experience can leave you feeling at a loss sometimes for your perception and the reality may not align. Paul is the bona fi de, genuine real deal. Interrupted throughout lunch by eager fans, phone calls and my prodding questions, he remained open, forthright and charming. So much of his life is and has been public on the air that you’d think at some point, he would just say enough! But, more pictures and invitations from fans and charities continue to fi ll his schedule and give him great joy.

Castronovo works constantly to maintain his edge and stay relevant. He shares his commitment to working harder has to be part of the reason all of the other shows that began at the time he started on terrestrial radio, are gone. Maintaining an edge on radio isn’t easy these days with satellite and Internet radio reaching listeners. But he shares “at the end of the day, with all the buttons in your car on the dashboard, people will still hit the local radio when they want to know what’s going on in the local market.”

Paul’s love of South Florida began at age eleven when he moved here from Long Island, NY. Now fi fty-two, he still loves the outdoors and all the area offers. When he’s not working, he’s fi shing, boating, cycling or just enjoying time with his family. He grew up surfi ng and enjoys watching his son surf the waters just as he did. He talks about one of his favorite athletes, Laird Hamilton, an American big-wave surfer, co-inventor of tow-in surfi ng, and shares that Hamilton is a “specimen” because he can run the beach carrying Palm trees in his hands. Paul’s excitement is contagious.

The Castronovo’s love to entertain. Great wine and food are always a big part of the experience. In fact, that's how his journey to vineyard owner began. He and Gina (his wife) were in Italy on vacation and met Eros Spinozzi, an Italian wine exporter while dining one evening. He then introduced

Castronovo to the Galasso family of the San Lorenzo winery. In what can only be explained as fate; when Paul was on his fl ight back to the US, he sat next to Bruce Hunter (President of Shaw-Ross wines) and they brokered a deal right then

and there. That was the beginning of the Castronovo Vineyards.

Paul mentioned “In Italy, there’s no rushing. You eat, drink and however long it takes, it takes. They will keep the restaurant open until you are through.” He loved the experience. And when he traveled to the San Lorenzo winery, the Galasso family had prepared platters of meats and treated Paul and Gina like royalty! At the end of their visit, the grandmother was clear when she spoke to him, “You bring our wine back to

America.” Thoughts of beginning Castronovo Vineyards entered Paul’s mind. And as fate would have it, in 2010, Montepulciano D'Abruzzo was introduced here in the United States. It’s the kind of wine that can be served with pasta, steak, pizza or even a spicy seafood dish. The second offering, the Castronovo Pecorino arriving on US soil now is the perfect wine for outdoor Florida summer cooking. You can serve it while on the boat (it won’t stain like red) and it goes well with Lobster on the grill, conch or Ceviche if you are entertaining by the pool.

A few things you may not know about our own hometown Castronovo. He’s a wonderful blues singer. He can do a fantastic ZZ Top Billy Gibbons and also Lynyrd Skynyrd vocals. He loves the more obscure tunes such as Gimme Back My Bullets. He watches Modern Family, Richard Lewis and Dom Irrera “destroy him by making him laugh” and is a big fan of the Sleep Number Bed. His biggest career moves were suggested by his wife and he’s lost eighty-nine pounds in eighteen months!

Martina FouquetPine Crest Schoolwww.Pinecrest.edu

Known for turning common academic topics “inside out” during classroom

discussion, Martina is a top-tier math student with a penchant for singing Broadway. Or is she a promising actress and ballerina on the pre-med track? Indeed, Martina is all of these things. She thanks Pine Crest School for allowing her to be herself, and excel outside the box.

“Pine Crest is a school of intellectual thinking. There are no limits,” said Martina. “You walk around on campus and students aren’t talking about something on TV last night. You will hear conversations like, ‘Did you hear about the presidential campaign or some new scientifi c research?’ There is a mutual respect for one another.”

Martina balances a course load heavy with AP classes, sings in the chorus, and performs in principal roles in most of Pine Crest’s plays and musicals. She is in constant motion and she manages to earn top marks in all of her classes. She traveled with her classmates to the American High School Theater Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2009, and has since performed in the fall production of “Twelve Angry Jurors,” the ballet “Coppelia,” and this November’s ballet production of “A Christmas Carol.”

Martina also is very involved in working with Pine Crest’s sister school Three Little Flowers, in Petit-Goave, Haiti. She is a member of Pine Crest’s Black Students’ Association, and she is an active member of the anti-bullying team “Words That Hurt,” a school-wide program coordinated by Pine Crest’s Diversity offi ce. Martina will study humanities and pre-med at Princeton University. To learn more about Pine Crest’s Upper School, go to: http://vimeo.com/channels/248920.

Sam NemiroffPine Crest Schoolwww.Pinecrest.edu

Something about the French horn “speaks” to senior Sam Nemiroff, who has

played the complex and often misunderstood instrument for almost nine years. Sam, who also plays trumpet, said he is much more comfortable with the French horn because the instrument demands a certain depth of musicality that is not always appreciated by the masses.

“It kind of defi nes what kind of musician I am and it is different from other brass instruments because there are nuances that make it so much more complex,” said Sam, a science scholar, musician, and classical music composer.

The “mellow” brass instrument suits Sam well, as he is placed among a select few in the country who have received the Young Fine Arts Merit Award, which measures mastery of musicianship at the Upper School level. Sam’s love for the musical arts is only one aspect of his focused School career. He also is a member of Pine Crest School’s award-winning Upper School Science Research Team. Sam recently was named a 2012 Intel Semi-fi nalist for his research entitled, “The Risk of Microbial Keratitis from Contaminated Eyewash Stations,” which was conducted at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute under the direction of Dr. Darlene Miller.

Sam’s research confi rmed the presence of the pathogens in two-thirds of the water he collected from laboratories along the East coast. He said he is very honored by the recognition he has received at Pine Crest School. Sam will major in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology (MCDB) at Yale University this fall. 10WAYS TO CELEBRATE THE FOURTH OF JULYBY KEVIN LANE

6 BENJAMIN FRANKLINWho is the author of the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin? Well, Benjamin Franklin, of

course… What better to appreciate the excitement and challenges of our country’s formative years than to read the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin! Although Franklin was born a little over 300 years ago, his life continues to be an inspiration and his advice is timeless. Wikipedia wrote that “…this work has become one of the most famous and infl uential examples of an autobiography ever written. Used paperback on Amazon start at a penny (a penny saved is a penny earned, mind you…) and via Kindle it’s free.

7 CITY OF PLANTATIONA really popular tradition is the Rick Case Automotive Group and the City of Plantation’s Independence

Day Celebration. It begins with the popular parade starting at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of West Broward Boulevard and N.W. 46th Avenue. It heads west to N.W. 69th Avenue, turns left on N.W. 4th Street and ends at City Hall about 11:00 a.m. with awards. Wait… wait… there’s more… The Annual Concert & Fireworks takes place at the Plantation Central Park Ball Fields. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and features Viva Classic Rock & Roll, a South Florida top 40’s & Variety Show band. The Fireworks follow at 9:00 p.m. featuring Zambelli Internationale. Hot Dogs, burgers, soda, water and more will be available for purchase during the evening program. All proceeds will benefi t Plantation Athletic League. Call (954) 452-2506.

8CITY OF WESTONThe theme of Weston’s 4th of July Parade is “Celebrating We The People,” which begins at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Town Center Blvd. and Three Village Road. It continues east to Bonaventure Blvd., heading south briefl y to Bell Tower Lane and winding

through Town Center to the heart of Main Street. If you love a parade, then this one is for you! Participants include local businesses, civic groups, schools, bands, organization and residents. If you feel really energetic, there is a 5K run/walk starting at 7:00 .m. at Weston Town Center. Visit www.splitsecondtiming.com or call (954) 389-4321.

9 A CAPITAL FOURTHA Capital Fourth… is another great tradition, particularly for those who enjoy just staying home in the evening… You can tune into PBS Channel 2 to enjoy the fabulous and very patriotic concert and watching the “… best fi reworks of any celebration.” Touted as

“America’s Premier Birthday Party,” an audience favorite and a highlight of the evening is the rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” complete with live cannon fi re provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery. The show, which starts at 8:00 p.m. will feature stunning visuals of the National Mall and the memorials and monuments representing the ideals underpinning our democracy. Some Fireworks Trivia… Did you know the fi reworks have names?? Here’s a few… Peony - the most common type of fi rework, the peony shell type is a spherical break of colored stars that burn without a tail effect; Chrysanthemum - a spherical break of colored stars, similar to a peony, but with stars that leave a visible trail of sparks; and Crossette a shell containing several large stars that travel a short distance before breaking apart into smaller stars, leaving a crisscross effect.

10 BARBECUE This doesn’t take a rocket scientist to fi gure out… We’re not sure if the family and friends Bar-B-Q is a tradition started by our Founding Fathers, but it sure is a great way to celebrate… and don’t forget the birthday cake for dessert!

IDENTITY THIEVES ARE OUT TO

STEAL YOUR LIFESTYLE THIS SUMMER

Identity thieves don’t take vacations; they wait for you to plan a trip and then act. It’s devious and unfortunately a proven winner. Why? Because it’s human nature

to relax while on vacation and forget about “reality.” Thieves know it and they thrive on it. So the question is how can you protect yourself while simultaneously enjoying your summer retreat?

START PREPARATIONS BEFORE YOU SET OUT ON YOUR ADVENTURE.

Contact your bank and credit card companies and inform them of your trip. Give them your destination and the length of your stay. They can then observe your account to verify if your cards are being used at another location. For example, John Stewart of Coral Springs never contacted his credit card company and he

paid the price. “To be honest, I wasn’t thinking about identity theft; I was thinking about getting away from the stress of work,” said John. “But when I got back from my vacation and received my credit card bill, I noticed an

additional $1,000 charged on my account. It happened so fast.”

Next, think about your home. All of your fi les and personal i n f o r m a t i o n should be concealed in a safe place. Ask your neighbors to pick up your mail or call the post offi ce and ask them to hold the mail while

you are away. If thieves are casing a neighborhood and see an overstuffed mailbox, you automatically become a target.

After that clean out your wallet or purse and bring only the essentials. Leave items such as your social security card and check book at home in a secure place. Bring two credit cards in case one gets lost or becomes inactivated.

If you have to bring an ATM card with

you, bring a pin-based card. If you don’t have one

then simply ask your bank for one.

Also, be very careful when choosing a location

to withdraw money out of a machine. Make certain it’s safe and the machine has not been tampered with in any manner. There are mechanisms such as skimming devices that thieves attach to ATM machines. These devices capture your personal information once you swipe your card. Check the machine carefully or ask a manager at the place you are staying for a trusted spot to withdraw money.

If you plan on taking your laptop don’t access personal accounts at the local coffee shop with internet capability. Most Wi-Fi hot spots don’t have security. The same goes for hotel computers or computers at internet cafés. Identity thieves use software such as keyloggers, which track your keystrokes and steal your personal information. Jan Archers can attest to it. “I was relaxing and checking my bank account at the local coffee shop,” said Jan. “I never thought someone could steal my account number so easily and drain my account. I was in shock.”

If you are staying in a hotel don’t leave any personal information out in the open. Lock it up in the safe. Also, make photocopies of all your key documents, such as your passport, plane tickets, hotel reservations and even your driver’s license and place them in the safe,

too. If your wallet or purse is stolen these photocopies

will provide the authorities with valuable information.

One other note of caution to the many social media users out there, don’t publicize your travel plans to all your friends and relatives on Facebook or Twitter. It’s careless. Even with all the online security settings and other safeguards in place. You’re just inviting trouble because you don’t really know who’s looking at your posts, especially with all the trolls snooping around; it’s an open invitation to rob your house.

Identity thieves quickly adapt and reinvent new ways to steal your personal information, your money and your lifestyle. They are diligent but these simple tips should make them look elsewhere for another victim. Just remember, be prepared, be careful and stay alert – then have fun.

“I WAS RELAXING AND CHECKING

MY BANK ACCOUNT AT

SHOP,” SAID JAN. “I NEVER

THOUGHT SOMEONE

COULD STEAL MY ACCOUNT NUMBER SO EASILY AND

If you plan on taking your laptopdon’t access personal accounts atthe local coffee shop with internet capability. Most Wi-Fi hot spots don’t have security. The same goes for hotel computers or computers atinternet cafés. Identity thieves use software such as keyloggers, which track your keystrokes and steal your personal information. Jan Archers can attest to it. “I was relaxing andchecking my bank account at the local coffee shop,” said Jan. “I never thought someone could steal my account number so easily and drain my account. I was in shock.”

If you are staying in a hoteldon’t leave any personal information out in the open. Lock it up in the safe. Also, make photocopies of all your key documents, such as your passport, plane tickets, hotelreservations and even your driver’s license and place them in the safe,

too. If your wallet or purse is stolen these photocopies

will provide the authorities withvaluable information.

One other note of caution to the many social media users out there, don’t publicize your travel plansto all your friends and relatives on Facebook or Twitter. It’s careless. Even with all the online security settings and other safeguards inplace. You’re just inviting troublebecause you don’t really know who’s looking at your posts, especially with all the trolls snooping around; it’s an open invitation to rob your house.

Identity thieves quickly adapt and reinvent new ways to steal your personal information, your money and your lifestyle. They are diligentbut these simple tips should make them look elsewhere for another victim. Just remember, be prepared, be careful and stay alert – then have fun.

How many children do you have?

I have a daughter named Lindsay Rose. She is 8 years old and is the most caring child. She has a great personality and can adapt to any situation with any of her peers. Where do you work? I am the CEO and President of Independence Title, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I hope on May 10th my newly released book SOLD will become a best seller so stay tuned. What are your favorite hobbies? My hobbies include fi shing, diving, boating, cruising and traveling.

What would the perfect day spent with

your daughter include? The perfect day with Lindsay would be spent out on the water fi shing, tubing or a mix of both. What is your favorite date night spot?

Well date night would be a nice dinner (Capital Grille or Sushi would be my favorite pick). Date day would be scuba diving and a nice burger, fries and ice cream afterward.

How would you describe yourself in one

word? Go-Giver

How do you stay involved in the

community? I volunteer at my daughter’s school, Heron Heights Elementary, as a room dad. I am an offi cer in the Seminole Nation Indian Princess Aztec Tribe (YMCA dad and daughter program) and most importantly, I sit on the Board of Directors of LifeNet4Families formally known as the Cooperative Feeding Program of Broward County, whose purpose is to reduce the pain and suffering of individuals and families in poverty. Where can you be found on your day/

night off when you’re not with your

children? When I do not have my daughter I am usually either volunteering, traveling or out on my boat fi shing or scuba diving. I do love to go out for dinner so in the evening I am usually out somewhere in Downtown Delray Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale or South Beach. How do you juggle being a bachelor...

and a father? I have my daughter about 45-50% of the time and I am usually working a lot as well. My evenings without my daughter are my time to socialize. I also typically have two weekends a month without my daughter so that gives me time to go out. I am very involved with my daughter so I always make sure anyone that I date understands this and knows that if the relationship takes on a further direction

this is my main priority.

How many children do you have? I have two children. Kara is 25 years old and is beautiful inside and out. She is following in my footsteps and is making a career here at Allied Kitchen & Bath. She is also studying Interior Design at Palm Beach State College and spends much of her free time coaching other young women and giving back to others within the community. Michael is 21 years old and just graduated from FSU with Bachelor Degrees in both Political Science and International Relations. I am so proud that he made the Dean’s List and plans on volunteering for the Peace Corps in the near future, as well as pursuing continued education and a career in International Relations.

Where do you work? I am President and Founder of Allied Kitchen & Bath.

What are your favorite hobbies? Traveling as often as possible, boating, scuba diving, kayaking, spending time at the beach, shopping and taking care of myself. I also love to spend time with my kids and family.

What would the perfect day spent with

your children include? We love traveling together. Different cities throughout the US and the islands, or even just spending the day exploring new places locally here in South Florida. We often just hop in the car and drive down to the Keys or over to Naples and

discover new places of interest. It’s funny how we all get along so well and even like the same types of food and love trying new restaurants that are unique or that we have never been to. What is your favorite date

night hotspot? I always love the Las Olas area and so many of our local restaurants here in Ft. Lauderdale such as The Capital Grille, So Litas and Casa D’Angelo, being a few of my favorites. But I also love heading down to Miami Beach, The Design District or Lincoln Road. It’s usually not the place but the people you’re with that make it special. I always love attending the local charity events around town with great friends and associates as well. How would you describe yourself in one

word? Passionate ......Very Passionate in everything I do. How do you stay involved in the

community? I am the president of the Oakland Park Wilton Manors Council and board of directors member of the Ft. Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity. I am very involved with many local charities and a past president of The South Florida Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I continuously help raise money and awareness for various charities by hosting and underwriting events several times a month at the Allied Kitchen & Bath Ft. Lauderdale showroom.

Where can

you be found on your

day/night off when you’re not with your

children? Hiding out in my condo near the beach or a weekend getaway at one of Ft. Lauderdale’s great hotels. What are you grateful for? I am so grateful and blessed to have my health, a very close family with three brothers and lots of friends, a great business celebrating our 28th year, and most importantly the ability to help others and always “pay it forward”. How do you juggle being a bachelor… and

a father? It’s actually much easier now that my children are older. I take it one day at a time though. I’m very involved in my children’s lives and I’m there for them for anything they need. The kids always come fi rst. I’m a 24/7 kind of guy, so whatever it takes is my attitude. I always have time to help my kids – listen and advise … especially when they want my advice !!!

How many children do you have?

I have three children. Anne Marie (Annie) is 12 years old, John is 10 years old, and Carolina is 6 years old. Annie is smart, pretty, very athletic and outgoing. She has a passion for playing soccer and has participated on teams in fast pitch softball, basketball, bowling, and competitive cheer squads as well. She also enjoys playing the clarinet for her school band. My son John is very smart, laid back and easy going. He is happy to come home and get involved in a pick up game of soccer, baseball, football, basketball with neighborhood friends or stay inside and play the Wii or Nintendo DS. He is in a bowling league and recently began taking guitar lessons. My youngest daughter Carolina is so cute, funny, outgoing, smart, and affectionate. She is fearless and never hesitates to participate in any activity with her older siblings and their friends. She is very animated and loves to swim, dance and sing. She just started to play the piano also.

Where do you work? I am employed by the Broward Sheriff’s Offi ce as a Deputy Sheriff. I started my career with BSO in August 1991 and fi rst worked road patrol in Unincorporated Pompano Beach after graduating the police academy. I am currently assigned to marine patrol in Pompano Beach as a rescue/recovery diver throughout Broward County. What are your favorite

hobbies? My favorite hobbies are coaching, boating, and playing any sport. What would the perfect day

include? The perfect day with my children would be a family gathering at the lake house in North

Carolina with my parents, my two sisters, my fi ve nephews and one niece. Swimming, diving, and playing catch in the lake as well as boating, water skiing, tubing and fi shing. Completing the day would be a cookout. The interaction of the children with their aunts, uncles and grandparents and the memories made between all of them as they grow older are amazing and something we do every year. What is your favorite date night pot? I really do not have a favorite date night hot spot. Something relaxing like a casual dinner out or in and then watch a movie at home together or go in a hot tub. How would you describe yourself in one

word? Dedicated How do you stay involved with your

community? I stay involved with the community in a variety of ways. I just fi nished coaching all three of my kids Coral Springs Youth Soccer teams in March. I have also coached I9 soccer and basketball league teams in Coral Springs. Additionally, I volunteer at my children’s schools helping out in the classroom as well as assisting with special events such as fi eld trips and career days. I like to participate in community charity events through work such as Relay for Life, Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and Waterway Clean Up. Where can you be found on your day/night off

when you’re not with your children? Normally at work. I like to stay out and work extra shifts on the boat in the evening once the sun goes down and it is a little cooler outside. Why are you the person you are today?

I really enjoy helping people and just being a good person. It is really not about making money but the satisfaction received from helping others and what my parents call “paying forward”. My job puts me in a position everyday to help others but I think it is my upbringing by my parents that puts the wants and needs of others before my own both on and off duty. Family and friends are fi rst and foremost. I was fortunate to have parents who were great role models and did the same things for my sisters and I that I now try to emulate and do for my children. How do you juggle being a bachelor… and a

father?

At this point in my life, my children are my priority and there really is no juggling between being a father and a bachelor. I never planned on my marriage failing or being a single father but you make the best of it. The children are caught in the middle as innocent bystanders and grow up so quickly. I feel it is my job to be there for them and support them while they are still young and demand more of my time and attention.

“Often, you never get a second chance to make a fi rst impression.” From TV commercials to the wisdom of our parents, the saying is timeless and true.

But while fi rst impressions come once, we have countless chances to improve – or ruin – the impression we’ve made with those around us.

It’s called “Reputation Management” – the process of cultivating our image. It can be as simple as the words we speak, the way we’re dressed, the advice we give, or even the way our Website, blog, Facebook or Twitter feed comes across.

Here are four ways to manage your reputation:

Beware the two sides of social media. In the Age of Social Media, we’re encouraged to be

ourselves. We speak openly about politics and societal issues, and comment on what others say or do. We’re emboldened because we’re “among friends.” But one bad posting or Tweet could harm your reputation overnight or get you trouble with boss. What if a tweet you posted was retweeted or posted to someone’s Website – and then found by Google? Would the comments cast you in an unfavorable light – among prospective clients or even employers (who increasingly are searching social media for cues and clues about job candidates)? Consider the case of the Miami Fire captain who posted a controversial opinion on the Trayvon Martin case on his Facebok page. His posting was picked up by another website and the next thing you know it was headline news in the mainstream media. He’s been accused publicly of being a racist and he’s in hot water with his bosses.

What’s the Website say? The Internet has become the power tool of reputation management. Make sure it’s speaking kindly about you. Post your skills and expertise. Include testimonials; nothing speaks to your reputation better than the words of satisfi ed

clients. Dress for success. If you’re in a

professional service business – an attorney, accountant, marketing executive or a physician – every time you step out of the house you may bump into someone new or come across an existing client. What does your attire say about you?

Dialing for impact. Experts say to “Speak with a smile in your voice.” When calling a client or prospect, speak as if you’re truly interested in talking to them. If you can’t, then don’t make the call.

Reputation management is not a once-and-done affair. It’s a process that needs daily attention to ensure that fi rst impression lasts forever!

THE NON-SURGICAL EYE LIFT, NECK LIFT, WRINKLES AND SKIN LAXITY REVISION!

This new procedure can be used to diminish and erase:

Pellevé is the long-awaited solution! In one short, easy, very comfortable treatment, you can experience a marked improvement in the appearance of fi ne lines, skin tightening and wrinkles for up to six months! We are seeing wonderful results in as few as 1-4 treatments.

The technology of the Pellevé system sets it apart from other wrinkle-reducing treatments. When you are treated with Pellevé, a more focused Radio Frequency energy is delivered to areas of the skin where elasticity is lacking and lines have begun to develop. This energy heats the skin, causing it to begin producing collagen. Collagen is a key component in healthy, toned-looking skin.

It delivers heat to deep layers of the skin where fat resides. This “controlled focused energy” spurs the contraction of these deep tissues for an overall smoothing effect.

The heat energy also stimulates the production of new collagen over time, resulting in fi rmer, tighter, smoother skin. The practitioner adjusts the strength of the delivered energy based on feedback from the patient throughout the session.

The Pellevé system requires no anesthesia and treatment can be conducted in as little as 15 minutes per area. We simply, apply a thin layer

of gel to your face prior to treatment. Most patients experience only a warming sensation on the skin when the Pellevé hand piece is applied.

Patients often report that immediately after treatment skin feels tighter similar to Botox. When it takes effect, most patients often experience immediate results, and a reduction in the visibility of wrinkles at the treatment sites. Over the course of the next six months, you will continue to see smoother, more beautiful skin.

While many patients see results after just one session of Pellevé, we may recommend multiple treatments to help you achieve your optimal aesthetic goals. The total number of treatments can vary and is based on your individual skin needs. It takes up to two months for the full effects of Pellevé to be seen.

There is no downtime or side effects except the ocassional very mild swelling or redness which normally resides in an hour.

Developed for the sophisticated, discriminating fi ne-diner, NYY Steak delivers an extraordinary and entertaining experience from the moment you enter the restaurant. The concept of NYY Steak was founded in The Bronx, New York in the spring of 2009 as the premier fi ne dining destination of the New Yankee Stadium, in its inaugural season. The concept was established as a joint venture between the New York Yankees and Seminole Gaming Entertainment. The Yankees are the premiere sports franchise in the world and hold a record 27 world baseball championships; The Seminole tribe is America’s only unconquered tribe. NYY Steak is fashioned after Seminole Gaming’s award winning Council Oak Steaks & Seafood restaurants in their casinos in Tampa and Hollywood, Florida.

The walk from the north entrance of the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino into the front of the restaurant was designed to transport you to the entry way of Yankee Stadium. The thought and design that went into creating the visual was absolutely inventive. A New York Yankee true encounter here in Broward County.

The entrance once inside is understated. The cocktail lounge is modern, inviting and leads you to the hostess area where a glass butcher shop and knife wall are featured. As a purveyor of U.S.D.A. Prime 21 to 28 day dry-aged beef, NYY serves steaks, chops, prime-rib, chicken, fresh seafood and shellfi sh offerings of shrimp, crab, oysters, clams, lobsters and fi n fi sh.

Once inside, dark woods, classic booth and table settings create an ambiance that is comfortable and clubby without being intimidating. The open glass kitchen allows you to enjoy a view of the various chefs creating the seasoned tastes for

the evening. Chef William Phillips takes great pride in the choices displayed in the glass butcher shop. He is now the restaurant chef creating the menu locally beginning in February when the establishment opened. Your eyes can also encounter the pastry chef, Mark Weideman creating desserts that will entice your sweet need and excite your palate. There is a beautiful glass view into the wine cellar that will inspire

you to review their fi nest wine offerings. And, the infamous Yankee Signature Walls and classic Yankee images throughout can maintain one’s attention and encourage storytelling all evening.

We are greeted by Petrus Louis Turcano, the general manager from Romania and our sommelier along with Earl, our server who knows the history about the joint venture and all things NYY Steak. Both are genuine in their approach and immediately share what’s top on the menu to enjoy and pair. He mentions the New Zealand Lamb, domestic and dry-aged rubbed with roasted garlic herbs and sea salt placed on a tomato risotto with fresh mint leaves. Already we lean forward with interest.

“Leave room for the fl aming volcano,” Earl states. “You absolutely must taste it…it’s covered in heath crunch and 151 proof Rum is poured on top.” I am now focused on having dessert fi rst of course!

LOBSTER GRILLED CHEESE AND TOMATO SOUP

The experience becomes more nostalgic when your plate is set. The Yankees have retired fi fteen numbers for sixteen players, the most in Major League Baseball. Each dinner plate at NYY Steak has a retired number on it.

And the tasting begins.A basket of pretzel bread with

white cheddar cheese and whole grain mustard, asiago crisps and cinnamon with sugar signature crisps accompanied by salted butter is placed on the table. Delicious! Tuna tartar, beef (sirloin) carpaccio, oyster rockefeller with sambuca are placed in the middle of the table. My mouth watering and eyes dancing found my two favorites quickly. Colossal stuffed barbeque shrimp wrapped in bacon placed over cilantro popcorn blended with strips of bacon will give your taste buds a fantastic, tangy experience while the scallops with blackberry reduction are crispy on top and melt like butter in your mouth. My two favorites will become your “must haves!” But, if you are a beef carpaccio fan, the seracha (Vietnamese hot sauce) served razor thin with toast points will kick your heartbeat up a pace!

There are several salads that are wonderful but don’t miss the head of baby iceberg served with crumbled blue cheese, bacon and French dressing accompanied by a shot of a vodka martini marinated blue cheese stuffed olive.

Entrees included twin South African lobster tails broiled with lemon butter, Chilean sea bass with a red wine reduction garnished with micro greens that was crispy on the outside and fl aky on the inside served over a wonderful risotto. The dry-aged twenty one to twenty eight day, twenty ounce center cut NY strip almost looks like a fi let. It’s fl avorful,

tender, charred and buttery. But, this can’t rival the “unsurpassed” winner of the evening, the long bone cowboy Ribeye “branded” with your initials in the bone. Crispy on the outside, tender, juicy on the inside it is the signature steak to experience. Coated in peanut oil, the chef explains they do not trim this at all therefore the fl avor remains…and it is beyond words. But don’t take my word for it, taste it for yourself!

The sides accompanying the entrees are worthy of tasting. The corn is fi re roasted with fresh bacon, sweet cream and herbs. The mushroom buttons are touched with olive oil, garlic and rosemary herbs. And the creamed spinach is combined with shallots and lemon pepper. All the sides are full of fl avor and are enough to share.

Remember I mentioned the fl aming volcano for dessert? This is a show and is worth tasting. If you want something more all-American, try the over-sized chocolate chip cookies fi lled with vanilla ice cream accompanied with fudge on the plate, sprinkles, raspberry garnished and touched with fresh whipped cream. It’s a mixture of everything wonderful. Don’t hesitate to order the chocolate blackout cake if you are a chocolate lover. This is sinful and enough to take home for a mid-night treat!

I don’t want to leave you without sharing two fantastic options from the lounge menu. They can be ordered for dinner, but they are not featured on the menu. The lobster sandwich is crisp on the outside and fi lled with chunks of lobster served with tomato soup. It is fantastic! The NY aged steak sandwich with fries is served with balsamic ketchup. It is my new favorite condiment! This is great to share even as an appetizer.

The experience at NYY Steak will be a treat whether you are a Yankee fan or fancy other sports. The chef’s are approachable, the wait staff are impeccable and the cool vibe will make the experience worthy of more than one visit.
