Dear Parishioners, Odds and Ends. May is always a busy month at Blessed Sacrament. 8th Grade graduation will take place on Monday, May 14th. The week before is an exciting week for the class as they undergo their “Days of Discovery.” It includes a tour of the State Capitol where they will watch lawmakers debate a current bill. On another day they will go to St. Joseph’s Home and the Central Illinois Food Pantry. They will also visit the Sangamon County building, the jail, and the State Police. The week ends with a class trip to Chicago and practice for graduation. This year our school also prepares to say good-bye to Mrs. Kathy Wear who is retiring after sixteen years as principal. Under her guidance, the school has seen considerable growth and change, including an addition to the building. It has developed an excellent reputation for both academics and Catholic values. The parish will hold an appreciation reception for her on Sunday, June 10th. Mark your calendar and plan to attend. On Saturday, May 26th, Deacon Adam Zadwazki will be ordained to the priesthood. The next day, he will celebrate the 10:30 Mass here at Blessed Sacrament. It too, will be followed with a reception. On the following Sunday, June 3rd, we will have our annual Corpus Christi procession. Following the 10:30 Mass, we will process down Glenwood to Ash Street and then over to Walnut and back to the church. This tradition reminds us of our calling to take Christ out into the community. Again, I hope you will join us for the procession. On another note, last weekend about thirty women from our parish attended CRHP. CRHP (Christ Renews His Parish) is a retreat experience conducted by parishioners for parishioners. The reflections center on how our faith has touched and shaped the lives of others with whom you worship. During the year we will put on CRHP retreats for both men and women in the parish. My last announcement is that Father Ron Lorilla will be starting at Blessed Sacrament as our assistant pastor beginning July 1st. He has been ordained one year and is currently serving at St. Anthony Parish in Effingham. We welcome him and look forward to his arrival. Fr. Jeff
