In Baptism, God adopts us as children and makes us a new creation through water and the Holy Spirit. As we are signed with the gift of the Spirit in Confirmation, God brings us to the full stature of the Lord Jesus to continue his mission in the world. At the table of Eucharist, we are fed on the Sacrament of Christs body and blood, and, with the whole Church, take part in the saving offering of Christ on the cross. In the Sunday Mass, those who have been initiated are continually formed by the word of God and affirmed in their belong to the Church, the Body of Christ. Nearly 30 years ago the Archdiocese of Brisbane restored the receiving of the sacraments to the original order of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. In a couple of weeks these children are being confirmed in their Baptismal faith and sealed with the Holy Spirit. This weekend the children will receive the Creed at Mass. We will engaged in this ancient tradition in an age appropriate way, so the children can affirm their belief in God the Father, in Jesus Christ, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. As they grow and mature we pray that the fullness of the truths that are contained in the Creed will become integral to their Christian lives. As we celebrate this simple Rite with the children we are invited to take stock of what we really do believe. Our creedal state- ments developed over the first 3 centauries of Christianity, often with great struggle to distil what is essential and true for the followers of Jesus. People suffered and died defending these truths. We can easily rattle them off, unware of what we are real- ly saying. We too have been sealed with the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth. There is an old Latin saying, lex orandi, lex crednedi, which means the law of prayer shapes the law of belief. Modern scholars often add lex vivendi, the law of living. Our prayer shapes our beliefs and this shaped our life. Lets reclaim the treasure of our Christian beliefs and rediscover how they can shape our thinking and our living. Blessings on the week.

Christian Initiation for Children Christian Initiation incorporates us into Christ and forms us into God’s people. In Baptism, God adopts us as children and makes us a new creation through water and the Holy Spirit. As we are signed with the gift of the Spirit in Confirmation, God brings us to the full stature of the Lord Jesus to continue his mission in the world. At the table of Eucharist, we are fed on the Sacrament of Christ’s body and blood, and, with the whole Church, take part in the saving offering of Christ on the cross. In the Sunday Mass, those who have been initiated are continually formed by the word of God and affirmed in their belong to the Church, the Body of Christ. (Sacramental Policy of the Archdiocese of Brisbane)

We have 110 children preparing for Confirmation. Nearly 30

years ago the Archdiocese of Brisbane restored the receiving of

the sacraments to the original order of Baptism, Confirmation

and Eucharist. In a couple of weeks these children are being

confirmed in their Baptismal faith and sealed with the Holy Spirit.

This weekend the children will receive the Creed at Mass. We

will engaged in this ancient tradition in an age appropriate way,

so the children can affirm their belief in God the Father, in Jesus

Christ, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit. As they grow and mature

we pray that the fullness of the truths that are contained in the

Creed will become integral to their Christian lives.

As we celebrate this simple Rite with the children we are invited

to take stock of what we really do believe. Our creedal state-

ments developed over the first 3 centauries of Christianity, often

with great struggle to distil what is essential and true for the

followers of Jesus. People suffered and died defending these

truths. We can easily rattle them off, unware of what we are real-

ly saying. We too have been sealed with the Holy Spirit, the

Spirit of truth. There is an old Latin saying, lex orandi, lex

crednedi, which means the law of prayer shapes the law of

belief. Modern scholars often add lex vivendi, the law of living.

Our prayer shapes our beliefs and this shaped our life. Let’s

reclaim the treasure of our Christian beliefs and rediscover how

they can shape our thinking and our living.

Blessings on the week.

Peter Pellicaan—Why be Catholic? “How valuable is your Faith to you? Come along to Peter Pellicaan’s presentation (St. Williams, 67 Dawson Pde., Keperra, Sept. 12, Daley Centre, 7.30pm to 9pm) to be inspired by the journey of someone who discovered the Catholic Church later in life and was transformed by the experience. Perhaps for most of us we received the Faith not long after birth and we have grown accustomed to it. Often, people who have found it in adulthood can have a deeper perspective about it. Title of presentation - “Why be Catholic? – Why a Protestant pastor became Catholic.”
