Many in Israel recognized Jesus as a mighty man of God, even comparing him with the greatest of the prophets. Peter, always quick to respond whenever Jesus spoke, professed that Jesus was truly the "Christ of God" - "the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). No mortal being could have revealed this to Peter, but only God. Through the "eyes of faith" Peter discovered who Jesus truly was. Peter recognized that Jesus was much more than a great teacher prophet and miracle worker. Peter was the first apostle to publicly declare that Jesus was the Anointed One, consecrated by the Father and sent into the world to redeem a fallen human race enslaved to sin and cut off from eternal life with God (Luke 9:20, Acts 2:14-36). The word for "Christ" in Greek is a translation of the Hebrew word for "Messiah" - both words literally mean the Anointed One. We might ask ourselves why it was that Jesus commanded his disciples to be silent about his identity as the anointed Son of God. They were, after all, appointed to proclaim the good news to everyone. Jesus knew that they did not yet fully understand his mission and how he would accomplish it. Jesus told his disciples that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and die in order that God's work of redemption might be accomplished. How startled the disciples were when they heard this word. How different are God's thoughts and ways from our thoughts and ways (Isaiah 55:8). It was through humiliation, suffering, and death on the cross that Jesus broke the powers of sin and death and won for us eternal life and freedom from the slavery of sin and from the oppression of our enemy, Satan, the father of lies and the deceiver of humankind. If we want to share in the victory of the Lord Jesus, then we must also take up our crosses and follow where Jesus leads us. What is the "cross" that you and I must take up each day? When our will crosses, with God's will, then his will must be done. To know Jesus Christ is to know the power of his victory on the cross where he defeated sin and conquered death through his resurrection. The Holy Spirit gives each of us the gifts and strength we need to live as sons and daughters of God. The Holy Spirit gives us faith to know the Lord Jesus personally as our Redeemer, and the power to live the Gospel faithfully, and the courage to witness to others the joy, truth, and freedom of the Good News. MARY, MOTHER OF MERCY CHURCH

Columbarium of Mary, Mother of Mercy Church – a pamphlet – outlining details of

this chapel, which has been specially designed and is to be built under the altar of the new

church, is available at all Mass centres today. Parishioners may choose to secure a niche for

future use. A special “pre-completion” contribution is being offered. This Columbarium will

provide our parishioners with a permanent resting place for their mortal remains within the

walls of the new church.

Visit to the building site. Next Sunday, weather permitting, our building contractor has invited us onto site to view

the work thus far. This is a special privilege and a great opportunity to get a first hand view of this exciting project.

WHEN: 26 June 11am to 1 pm.

HOW to access the site: The best way would be to park in Marymount and walk up through the Primary School. There is

also the Sunlight Drive Car park, however it is popularly used by the Air Factory clients. Elderly and disabled parishioners

can drive into the site and park near the site offices, however small cars would be advised not to negotiate the “cattle grid”

in place at the bottom of the hill. While the builder will establish safe areas and distances for viewing the building, they

stress that all who enter the site do so at their own risk. Hope to see you there next Sunday between 11am and 1 pm.

Furnishing Appeal – Envelopes which can be used on a regular basis [weekly, fortnightly etc] are still available at the

door of the church. This is a great way to make a meaningful contribution over an extended period. THANK YOU to all who

use these envelopes now.

Message from your Parish Pastoral Council:

The main focus for the June meeting was in regard to the Parish Community Centre that will be part of the new church

building. It will be wonderful to have facilities to gather, meet, pray and learn. The small area in Infant Saviour Church has

been stretched to the limit and its size has limited so many things.

There will be a coffee shop for parents and parishioners to access and meet and this will be available to cater for families

after a funeral for example.

There will also be a prayer space behind the altar for children's liturgy or small prayer groups.

We discussed groups that we could set up to utilise the space and besides checking with existing groups, we will

encourage groups such as Aria's Angels for young children from baptism up until school age.

Keep your eyes open for upcoming events:

Do you know the councillor in your Mass centre? Ask them about any matter you believe the Pastoral Council needs to

consider or any ideas you may have with the new community centre. Agenda items can be emailed to the Parish Office with

subject Pastoral Council which will then be forwarded to the Council for inclusion. Parish email is
