PARISH MINISTRIES RETREAT – YEAR OF FAITH SUNDAY, JAN 13 Mini-retreat and pot-luck luncheon will be held for those who are serving in parish ministries. 24 HOUR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Eucharistic Adoration is the first Monday of the month. The next Adoration is scheduled in the Basilica for January 7th Adoration will begin immediately after the 8:30AM Mass and continues to the 8:30AM Mass the next day.

Do you have a couple of free hours from 3pm to 5pm on a weekday after-noon?? Are you bilingual?? There is a need for volunteers between the hours of 3pm and 5pm, Monday thru Friday, in the Parish Office. We are looking for several volunteers, then only a one or two day commitment would be necessary. The individual needs to be bilingual and able to assist parishioners with Mass cards and an-swer phones and questions as they arise in the Pastoral Center. HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR NOTRE DAME STUDENTS GLEE CLUB/ CONCERT
The University of Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra is requesting host-family volunteers from among the Basilica parishioners. They request that they house a minimum of two students in beds, pick up their as-signed student after the concert, and that they give them breakfast and return them to the Basilica by 7:30 am the next morning. She will be helping the community with different concerns related to health and nutritional counseling;. cholesterol and blood pressure counseling; medication review and counseling; resources and assistance navigating health systems (finding a doctor); blood pressure readings will be offered.

If you are a baptized Catholic adult and have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Church offers an opportunity to complete this sacrament on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2013. HOMEBOUND
Would you be interested in helping to take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound in our par-ish? In service to the parish, do you have a sincere desire to bring Christ to those who cannot attend Mass on Sunday? Qualifications: Mature adult Catholic over the age of 21 who is fully initiated (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) and is a regis-tered member of the parish. You will be asked to be fingerprinted and you must complete training in “safe environment.” You will be required to attend training sessions in Eucharistic ministry. Please pre-pare a written letter introducing yourself and ex-plaining why you would like to be a Eucharistic Min-ister to the homebound. Mail your letter to Rev. As we near the end of the year, tax preparation season is rapidly approaching. Currently tax prepa-ration volunteers are now being recruited to help parishioners and San Juan Capistrano residents with tax filing. PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA
Declaración de la Parroquia de la Misión
MENASJE DE LA SEMANA: Seguimos en NAVIDAD y se nos invita a CONTEMPLAR este misterio de AMOR de DIOS. Es impresionante. Desde luego que Dios es desconcertante: no es nor-mal su planteamiento y su “encarnación” de tal tamaño... y con todas las conse-cuencias. Cada día y fiesta de este tiempo breve de Navidad nos anima a esa... ¡CONTEMPLACIÓN! Tenemos mucho que descubrir en cada “rincón” de este misterio de amor de Dios, de la Navidad. En este domingo se nos invita a contemplar a la SAGRADA FAMILIA, y ésta como modelo de valores que “no pasan”, que nos están llamando, también a los creyentes de hoy. No precisamente el estilo de familia patriarcal-autoritaria, pero sí a los valores de convivencia, capacidad de comprensión, de generosidad y de acogida que presenta la FAMILIA de NAZARET. Porque siento que es aquí donde se nos ofrece toda una “ESCUELA” en esos valores, que sí los considero perennes, de valor. Además de proclamar que la familia es una realidad cardinal de la vida y hoy en día “contestada” (acaso por la “ley del péndulo”), lo que hoy se nos ofrece a los creyentes es descubrir a Jesús aceptando y asumiendo la realidad familiar, comulgando con ella. Hasta aquí llega su “encarnación”: asume la realidad humana, limitada y contingente, y desde ahí mismo nos ofrece toda una visión de la vida, de relación e interrelación, de convivencia y de crecimiento, con una visión de Dios-Abbá, incluso de “contestación”, porque -en el mensaje que más tarde nos ofrecerá- pondrá en cuestión y radicalmente esta realidad llamada “familia”. Frente a un tipo de familia encerrada en sí misma (“cada uno en su casa y Dios en la de todos”), la familia de Nazaret se nos presenta como ABIERTA: a las necesidades del entorno: así nos lo muestran los “cuatro” detalles que nos ofrecen los relatos evangélicos. a los planes de Dios: desde aquí se relativiza incluso la realidad familiar a favor de la NUEVA FAMILIA que se crea en torno
a Jesús y al proyecto del Reino. El proyecto de Dios es lo primordial (“lo primero es primero y lo segundo es después” sería el dicho).
respeto a la realidad personal: sólo desde la mutua aceptación y acogida tiene una explicación “lógica” aquella familia de Nazaret. Por eso es modelo.
¿Será que estas realidades ya no sirven? ¿Será que hemos “avanzado” tanto que esos VALORES EVANGÉLICOS han dejado de serlo? ¡Ojala la CONTEMPLACIÓN de BELÉN nos conceda el gozo de tener una FAMILIA, al estilo de Nazaret!

SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS:
Aunque es parte de la cultura hispana el bautizar a los niños cuando son pe-queños, el bautismo de adultos se ha convertido en algo “nuevo” para noso-tros, nuevo no en cuanto a que antes no haya existido, sino que ahora se ha tomado conciencia de él y se está respondiendo a una realidad pastoral. El nú-mero de hispanos no bautizados es cada vez mayor; asimismo, el número de adultos que piden ser bautizados o admitidos en la plenitud de la comunión de la Iglesia católica, es cada día más grande.
En la Vigilia Pascual, además de recibir el Bautismo, también reciben la Confirmación y la Sagrada Co-munión. Durante el proceso, se participa en distintas etapas, así como ritos. Estos nuevos miembros, pue-den ser desde niños mayores de 7 años hasta adultos. ¡NO ESPERES MAS! Si eres mayor de 18 años y aún no has recibido los sacramentos de BAUTISMO, CONFIRMACIÓN o COMUNIÓN. Manifestando a Cristo: dichosos los que trabajan por la paz

La alegría del amor, la respuesta al drama del sufrimiento y el dolor, la fuerza del perdón ante la ofensa recibida y la victoria de la vida ante el vacío de la muerte: todo tiene su cumplimiento en el misterio de la encarnación de Cristo, de su hacerse hombre y de su compartir con nosotros la debilidad humana para transformarla con el poder de su resurrección (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 13). Este Año de la Fe ha abierto la “puerta de la fe”. La “puerta” litúrgica que abre cada año el calendario es la solemnidad de María, la Santísima Madre de Dios. Su Hijo es el Príncipe de la Paz; por eso, su fiesta apropiadamente coincide con el Día Mundial de Oración por la Paz, cuyo tema este año es “Dichosos los que trabajan por la paz”. La paz, escribe el papa, crece en lo profundo de cada alma humana como el don de Dios. Florece cuando trabajamos a construir la paz en el mundo, como individuos o como miembros de la familia humana. A lo largo de enero, los Evangelios domini-cales proclaman las “manifestaciones” de Jesús como el Salvador del mundo: en la Epifanía, a las naciones gentiles, en las personas de los reyes magos; en la fiesta del Bautismo del Señor, al pueblo de Israel escu-chando a Juan Bautista en el río Jordán; en las bodas de Caná, al grupo más pequeño de los discípulos, cuando Jesús convierte el agua en vino; y por fin en la sinagoga de Nazaret, cuando Jesús inaugura su mi-nisterio público proclamando su misión de traer buenas noticias a los pobres, la libertad a los cautivos, la vista a los ciegos y el alivio a los oprimidos.

Seguir manifestando la presencia de Jesús en el mundo, adoptando la misión de traer la paz en su nombre, especialmente en nuestras casas y en nuestras comunidades.

La jornada de la fe: Desde Egipto hasta la Tierra Prometida
Este año de la fe te invito a conocer la jornada clásica del pueblo de Dios. Una nación que nace cuando Dios elige a su pueblo Israel llamándoles a salir de la esclavitud. Ellos también recibieron un líder en la persona de Moisés quien les guio para cumplir las promesas que Dios hizo a sus antepasados. Cons-tantemente, el pueblo de Israel debe elegir la voluntad de Dios aun cuando parece imposible. Hubo mo-mentos cuando las vidas de Moisés y Aarón estaban en peligro y el pueblo deseaba regresar a su esclavitud en Egipto. ¿Qué hicieron? Estudiaremos los siguientes puntos:
♦ Cómo el Éxodo nos enseña el concepto de la salvación. ¿Qué significa ser salvado? ♦ ¿Cómo nuestra historia es parecida con la experiencia de los israelitas? ♦ El significado del nombre divino YHWH, conocido como el tetragrámaton ♦ (Ex 3:14). ♦ El significado de las plagas, su orden y la Pascua como la fiesta más importante del Antiguo Testa-

RECUPERAR EL TIEMPO PERDIDO… ¡OREMOS EN TODO MOMENTO! Hoy, es un buen momento para hacer balance del año que ha pasado y propósitos para el que comienza. Buena oportunidad para pedir perdón por lo que no hicimos, por el amor que faltó; buena ocasión para dar gra-cias por todos los beneficios del Señor. La Iglesia nos recuerda que somos peregrinos y que durante esta vida nos dirigimos hacia la eternidad. El tiempo es una parte importante de la herencia recibida de Dios; es la dis-tancia que nos separa de ese momento en el que nos presentaremos ante
nuestro Señor con las manos llenas o vacías. Sólo ahora podemos merecer para la eternidad. Pasado este tiempo, ya no habrá otro. Esta vida, en comparación con la que nos espera, es como una sombra, nos dice San Pablo (1 Corintios 7, 31). Hoy podemos preguntarnos si nuestro tiempo ha sido aprovechado o, por el contrario, ha sido un año de ocasiones perdidas en el trabajo, en el apostolado, en la vida de familia; si he-mos abandonado con frecuencia la Cruz, porque nos hemos quejado ante la contradicción o lo inesperado. Son innumerables los motivos para terminar el año pidiendo perdón al Señor. Y también terminar el año agradeciendo al Señor la gran misericordia que ha tenido con nosotros y los innumerables beneficios que nos ha dado, muchos de ellos desconocidos por nosotros mismos. El año que comienza nos traerá, en proporciones desconocidas, alegrías y contrariedades. Un año bueno, para un cristiano, es aquel en que nos ha servido para amar un poco más a Dios. Un año bueno es aquel en el que hemos servido mejor a Dios y a los demás, aunque en el plano humano haya sido un desastre. Pida-mos a la Virgen la gracia de vivir este año que comienza luchando como si fuera el último que el Señor nos concede.
DIA DE ADORACIÓN AL SANTÍSIMO SACRAMENTO:
LUNES 7 DE ENERO, 2013
Como hijos de Dios necesitamos hacer un alto en nuestra vida y ponernos en silencio ante Jesús Sacramentado. Por lo menos una hora al mes acompaña a Cristo Eucaristía. El primer lunes de cada mes en la Mission Basílica iniciando después de la Santa Misa a las 8:30 AM y terminando con la bendición el próximo día justo antes de las 8:30 AM Un ejercicio sencillo: 1- Abra la Biblia en el Nuevo Testamento, y lea algo de lo que dice y hace Jesús entre los discípulos y la gente. 2- Después de leer algo de Jesús entre los discípulos y la gente, piense en el sagrario. El sagrario es el lugar más importante de las capillas y los templos católicos, porque ahí se reservaron las hostias consagradas en la santa misa, y por lo tanto, allí en el sagrario está Jesucristo, presente en Cuerpo, Sangre, Alma y Divinidad, en la Eucaristía. Es el misterio de nuestra fe. 3- Física o espiritualmente delante del sagrario piense: ‘Ese Jesús que aparece en el Evangelio, que nació de María Virgen, que mu-rió por el perdón de los pecados, resucitó al tercer día y subió al cielo a prepararnos un lugar; ese Jesús del evangelio es el mismo Jesús del sagrario que hoy me ofrece su Amor generoso, desmedido. Acepto el amor de Jesús, me cura del mal y me llena de la fuerza de la vida. El Amor del Hijo de Dios me cambia el corazón, me dice lo que soy, me da la identidad más importante, me marca profundo por el Bautismo, con el signo imborrable de hijo adoptivo de Dios. El amor de Jesús, Hijo de Dios, me da la pertenencia a la familia la Iglesia y me misiona a vivir en el amor a Dios y al prójimo. 4- En la presencia de Jesús sacramentado, decido y me propongo amar. El amor es el camino y la exigencia de todo el que se hace discípulo de Jesús, y peregrina con Jesús y sus hermanos a la casa del Padre Dios.
¡CON DIOS TODO SIN EL NADA! Señor Jesús, quiero hacerme prójimo, quiero amar y servir al que hoy está a mi lado. Me propongo amar dando la vida por el otro, como hiciste tú y como tú nos pides que hagamos nosotros. Te ruego Jesús que vengas a mi corazón y habites en él como en un sagrario vivo.
