Theft of Motor Cars in Rushcliffe At the end of May the police reported BMW motor cars being stolen from 2 separate locations in Rushcliffe.

Both vehicles were stolen with keys stolen from the victims’ home addresses. One was by forced entry and the other is believed to have resulted from the keys being hooked from within the house through the letter box.

Police advice is to make sure that car and house keys are not kept near any of your external doors and windows or visible within the house. For cars that have ‘keyless entry’, i.e. the doors unlock when the key is close-by, these keys should be kept in a ‘blocking’ pouch to prevent the signal being picked up by a scanner. Choose one that has the ‘Secured by Design’ accreditation and don’t forget about your spare key.

Further advice on protecting your vehicle can be found by using this website link: https://www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/advice/prevention/vehicle

PLEASE NOTE It’s very important to report crimes as otherwise rural communities may not be given the required level of resourcing they deserve.

Well Orston, What can I say! You’ve excelled yourselves this time! It was a bit worrying in the lead up to the day. Were we doing the right thing? Would anyone be interested? Would anyone be able to enjoy themselves at this terrible time?

As I went through the village in the days before I began to think it would be ok. ‘Churchill’ driving round the village delivering the goodie bags went so well and there were so many lovely comments as we delivered door to door.

However, there was still that nagging doubt. Would people really make the effort while having to stay at home? I began to get a little worried, only a few houses had been decorated. But then I still hadn’t had time to do my own!

Then WHAM….. all of a sudden at least 90% of the houses had joined in! What a fantastic response, thank you to all of you.

Then the next nagging doubt. Would our amateur efforts at trying to relay the day to you all work and even be

welcomed? We had a few hiccups along the way and a few tense moments, but we nearly got it right!!!

Well! I was staggered by the response and the hundreds of viewings we have had on the Orston Facebook page. It was really heart-warming. The VE Day committee are so pleased you enjoyed yourselves so much.

Someone sent this message to me afterwards…’As a passing cyclist said to me, "Orston always seems to

find a way to have a party..even in the middle of a pandemic" ‘.

Well I think that just about sums our community up! Shirley Lockwood

For Budding Authors….

To all Orstonians

Coping with the coronavirus? Time on your hands? Write your autobiography! If not, write about one (or more) of the most interesting/exciting things in your life in a few hundred words. Everyone has been famous for five minutes, or even if not, had a great experience, e.g. the amateur footballer scoring a great goal, a golfer getting a hole-in-one and so on. In other words, the most memorable thing(s) in their lives.

A group of us think we should be able to put together a book - “Life as it used

to be before the Coronavirus” or some such title. We have experience of editing books, writing, journalism, and so on, so we could offer assistance (over the net, e.g. WhatsApp) to the would-be writers of Orston. We have two book clubs in the village – how about a writers’ group?

Because we do not have everyone’s address, please pass it on.
