SECOND COLLECTION Retired Religious Men and Women

Next weekend, along with all the parishes in the United States, we will be taking up the annual Second Collection for Retired Religious Brothers and Religious Sisters who served us and so many, many others over the years in schools, hospitals, orphanages, prisons, chanceries, food banks, newsrooms etc. Remember, if you were served by them (and even if you were not), and consider a donation on December 8th. Thank you

Happy Advent! See the sanctuary bluish-violet ADVENT Colors?

The ADVENT WREATH adds to sanctuary brightness! Today we begin the sometimes-overlooked four weeks of preparation, anticipation and longing for (1) the historical coming [Latin, “approach”] of the Savior almost 2,000 years ago, and (2) the Second Coming [Latin, “approach”] of the Savior at the end of our earthly life. Use your Advent time well . . . as you will never get this time back again!

Christmas for Abraham House

As we have done for the past several years, we will be setting up in the church a very special “Angel” Christmas Tree for Abraham House. Abraham House is a program run by French brothers and sisters and local volunteers which ministers to the families of the incarcerated. We will have the tree up for the weekend of December 7-8. Each of the little angel ornaments on the tree will have the name, age, sex, and size of a person (adult or child) in need of a practical gift. You are invited to take an angel (or two!) and shop! The ornament will also serve as your name tag, to be securely attached to your gift. Wrapped presents should be brought to the Rectory by December 15th. Please note: Your presents are deeply appreciated by Abraham House. They will be presented to the children at the Christmas Party on December 18th. So that every child has a present to open on that day, we ask that your gift be brought to the Rectory on time.

* * * * * * * * Welcome, Seekers!

Rite of CHRISTIAN INITIATION of Adults Due to planned travel arrangements on this Thanksgiving weekend, we have postponed the celebration of the R.C.I.A. “Rite of Welcome” till next Sunday, after the 9:30 Mass homily.

+ 5 CATECHUMENS (non-Christians) Damien, Howard, Zev, Jennifer and Nicolas for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist

+ 2 CANDIDATES (non-Catholic Christians) Sarah and Mark for Reception into Full Communion with the Catholic Church

On upcoming Sundays, 2020, the other liturgical rituals will take place, following the homily at various other parish Masses, so as many parishioners as possible have the opportunity to see, pray for, and welcome these seven people who wish to walk the talk that is Christianity … just as we choose to do every day! Their R.C.I.A. classes, and the practical formation, will lead, God willing, to entrance into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil on April 11, 2020.

Parish Lectors The new Liturgical Year begins today! If you have not already done so, please pick up your copy of the Lector’s Workbook, 2020, stored below the vestments in the sacristy closet . . . and sign the list

Sophia, ChurchMouse Reporting unseen works of faith, hope and charity to uplift you.

It’s the beginning of a new Liturgical Year. And isn’t that what being a Christian is all about? New Beginnings! We might not always be patient, kind, generous, broadminded, thoughtful, etc., but God is … for, “God is love!” (1 John 4:8b). It’s Advent, and here we go again. Make it the “best beginning” of your life!

Entering Advent and the

New Liturgical Year As we move from the darkness of Last Things into Advent, Pope Francis urges us to move into the Light that awaits us: “There is an urgent need, then, to see once again that faith is a light, for once the flame of faith dies out, all other lights begin to dim. The light of faith is unique, since it is capable of illuminating every aspect of human existence. A light this powerful cannot come from ourselves but from a more primordial source: in a word, it must come from God. Faith is born of an encounter with the living God who calls us and reveals his love, a love which precedes us and upon which we can lean for security and for building our lives. Transformed by this love, we gain fresh vision, new eyes to see; we realize that it contains a great promise of fulfillment, and that a vision of the future opens up before us. Faith, received from God as a supernatural gift, becomes a light for our way, guiding our journey through time.”
