BE A PARENT.

BE INVOLVED

AND TAKE

ACTION.

A False Sense of Security

• Kids drink more because they feel

safe drinking in someone’s house,

away from consequences—26% of

kids usually drank alcohol at another

person’s home in the past 30 days.

Then, after a night of drinking, they

drive home drunk.

• Sometimes, parents allow house

parties to happen. This makes kids

think it’s okay to drink while underage.Sponsored by

Be InvolvedTalk to your kids about the effects of alcohol. Tell them underage drinking is not okay. Tell them house parties are not okay. Tell them drinking and driving—or riding with someone who is—is never okay.

Ask the tough questions. And make sure you get the answers.• Who will you be with?• What will you be doing?• Where are you going?• When will you be home?

You are the parent, and you set the rules. Make sure your kid follows them.

Take ActionIf you need to be out of town and leave your teens at home, ask a neighbor to watch your house. If you think a house party is going on, call the police. Those consequences are much better than the consequence of a teen dying later in the evening.

Remember:

You can stop one life from changing overnight. It is never okay for kids to drink.
