Spring 2010 Dear Parent/Guardian, Parents of the Bayonne School District have always taken an active part in their child’s education. In order to promote continued cooperation between home and school, the Bayonne Board of Education Title I Program is offering an innovative program this spring entitled, “Parent University.” We will be offering a free parent work-shop on Saturday, March 20, 2010. Child care will also be provided during the workshop times. This brochure details our Parent University Program, and I ask you to review its contents. A tear off portion has also been included for parents/guardians to register. I know it will be a positive and sharing experience for all parents/guardians who attend. I encourage you to take time out from your busy schedules to attend our Parent University semester. Please return your response to your child’s homeroom teacher by March 5, 2010. Thank you! Sincerely, Patricia L. McGeehan, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
PARENT UNIVERSITY
What is the Bayonne School District’s Parent University? The Parent University will offer a series of free parent workshops to engage parents in new and meaningful partnerships in learning. Mission of Parent University The mission of the Parent University is to mobilize parent power and encourage greater family involvement in developing a lasting learning partnership in which parents support their children in achieving academic and personal success. Goal of Parent University Our Parent University’s goal is to encourage, support, and inform parents about various educational topics so that they may take a more active and vital role in their child’s learning. The district wants to offer parents new and exciting partnerships. Research indicates that when schools work together with families to support learning, students tend to perform well in school and throughout life.
