JCA Parents,

With the fourth quarter underway we are nearing the home stretch of the 2015-2016 school year. With that being said, JCA Summer Camps are quickly ap-proaching. For the very first time, online registration for summer camps is now available. We will still be mailing brochures to prospective junior high students and allowing mail-in registration. Our hope is that by providing online registra-tion, and by marketing our camps both as a whole and individually through social media efforts, we can increase the amount of prospective students that visit our campus this summer.

JCA offers 24 different camps to accommodate individuals’ varying interests. Similar to the experience of being a JCA student, their truly is something for everyone when it comes to the JCA Summer Camp. From the fine arts, to com-puter coding and technology, to athletic camps; a wide range of interests are hit upon. Our accomplished teachers and coaches enjoy working with campers so they can have fun, learn something new, and improve their skills.

One-on-one interaction with prospective students is the greatest way to show off why Joliet Catholic Academy is truly a special place. Future JCA students get an opportunity to see firsthand what the JCA experience is like by working alongside our award-winning faculty, hall-of-fame coaches, and current students.

Sharing our social media posts, and forwarding information along to travel pro-grams, interested prospective families, and individuals you know that may have interest in JCA is an important part of this process. JCA is truly a family, and we hope that you as parents will help spread the word about the positive things happening, so that others may experience the value of a Catholic education both inside and outside of the classroom.

The JCA administration, faculty, staff, and coaches are fully committed to spreading the word far and wide for each and every one of academic programs and extra-curricular activities. Please feel free to contact me if there is a better way we can market an individual camp. For example, you may have a lead on prospective programs or coaches that haven’t been contacted and need more information about our summer camp offerings.

I look forward to a succesful end of the school year, and also a great summer with Joliet Catholic Academy shining brightly throughout our community, influencing others to follow in the footsteps of the 27,000 current Hilltopper and Angel Alumni.

These alums will give 2 or more 20-minute presentations, telling their unique stories of their journey from grad-uation to where they are now. In the next Parent Pride, we will list the names, professions and contact information for our participants. If your student is interested in speaking to them individually, you are welcome to contact them on your own. We are looking forward to another successful Career Day

Seniors Baby Pictures It has been a tradition at JCA to display the seniors’ baby pictures in the main hallway show case the weeks before graduation. The Senior Class will vote on the pictures within categories to win an award during Senior Night, May 19th. To make this event happen we need your help! We need you to send a digital copy of a baby picture of your son or daughter to go along with one of the categories below. Step 1: Find a baby picture of your child that fits in one of the following categories: 1. Cutest Hillmen or Angel 2. Wackiest/Tackiest outfit 3. Toothless Grin 4. Dirtiest Baby 5. Baby In Disguise 6. Best use of Props/ Accessories 7. Hairiest Baby 8. Bald Beauty 9. Prettiest Eyes 10.Biggest Cry Baby 11.Haven't Changed Since You Were Born 12.Holiday Hijinks Step 2: Send the picture as a jpeg attachment to [email protected] Please include daughter/son’s name in subject line along with category name . We will only be using 13 pictures per category. If you feel your picture could fit in more than one category please submit all categories options and our committee will make the final choice. Only one baby picture per senior will be used. Step 3: All photos must be submitted April 8, 2016. Questions….contact Shannon Blecha, [email protected] or Karla Budz, [email protected]

Current Scholarship Listings

A list of current local scholarship offerings can be found in Naviance. We recommend that you check these periodically to see what is available for your student. Simply log on to your Naviance account, click on the “College” tab, and select “scholarship list” under the Scholarships and Money section. DEADLINES ARE APPROACHING FOR MANY SCHOLARSHIPS!

Seniors and Parents Please bring a copy of all college acceptance letters and scholarship award letters to the Counseling Center. This information is needed for our files and for the graduation program. In order to have your student’s scholarship information included in the graduation program, it must be received by the Counseling Center by Tuesday, April 12, 2016. For questions, please contact the Counseling at 815-741-0500.

Juniors and Parents College Planning Meetings Continue… Mrs. Major continues to hold college planning meeting with juniors and parents. These individual meetings are designed to break down the college admissions process into simplified but effective steps that show you what you need to do and how to tackle each step with confidence. This is a great way to get organized so you can use your summer time to work ahead on finalizing your list, visiting schools, creating your resume, or writing essays. You and your student will be less stressed and ahead of the game! In order to get the most out of this meeting, students must complete the College Search Questionnaire and the Resume before the meeting. Both can be found on Naviance. Additionally, juniors should have their College Planning Worksheet completed. Counselors have worked with juniors to complete their worksheets during Advisory periods. If you have any questions please call Mrs. Major at 815-741-0500 ext 266. Please Save the Date: Friday, April 15, 2016: Parent Coffee with the Counselors – 7:15 a.m. in the Counseling Center Conference Room

Page 11: Parent Pride

Parents of Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors ~

Our counselors continue to meet with your students weekly during our Thursday Advisory periods. We are covering topics across the Counseling Curriculum: social/emotional,

academic, and college/career searching and planning.

Please ask your student what we are discussing. We have conducted a Strengths Explorer survey/questionnaire through Naviance for career searching purposes; we have read an

article and discussed academic integrity and dishonesty; we have connected the students with their Naviance resume and taken time in Advisory to work on Naviance exploration and various tasks. Additionally, we have worked on test prep and resources, study skills, and decision making skills. Please talk with your student(s) about the important, relevant

topics we discuss during our Thursday Advisory periods.

ACT– April 9, 2016 Students who registered for the ACT test on Saturday, April 9, 2016 will need to report to their assigned Test Center by the time listed on the admission ticket. You will not be admitted if you are late. Students need to bring the following items with them:

est Center admission ticket – You will not be admitted to the test without your admission ticket

ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION - You will not be admitted to the test without acceptable identification. Acceptable forms of identification are a current photo ID issued from your school or state government (Driver’s license or state ID). Please note the information on your admission ticket or on the ACT website (www.actstudent.org) for more information.

Christian Service Hours We want to emphasize the importance of completing Christian Service hours and turning in verification forms by the deadline dates. All seniors should have hours completed and forms submitted by April 15, 2016. You don’t want to be left out of senior end-of-year activities or not receive your diploma! This is also critical for juniors. Not completing service hours and/or not submitting verification forms by May 2, 2016 results in an INC on your transcript. This is the transcript sent to colleges in the fall with your applications. You do not want a college’s first impression of you to be that you don’t fulfill your responsibilities! It is extremely important to get your Christian Service Hours submitted by the deadline dates.

Starting this fall, we will be using a computerized cash register program which will be linked to the student’s id card. Students can choose to pre-deposit money on their account and use their student id card similar to a bank debit card or they can continue to use cash at breakfast and lunch. We will not accept credit cards in the cafeteria, credit cards can only be used for online pre-payments. Students can make account deposits in the cafeteria using cash or checks. All checks must be made payable to “Quest Food Management”.
