• This year your child is allowed to check out three library books.

• Each student checks out two books on their reading level and one on any level. Students receive their reading level from several assessments given. One assessment is the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), which gives the student a Lexile number.

• Each week your child has an assigned library day. Please encourage your child to have their books at school on their library day.

Field Trip: • We will take two field trips a year. We love having

parent volunteers; However due to limited bus space we usually have a set number of parents that are able to attend the field trip with us. Due to these circumstances we have a volunteer drawing to choose parents that will chaperone. We will notify all parents that volunteered. More information will come home as the field trip dates draws closer.

• Starting this year all volunteers must go through an application process. Contact the office for more information.

Patriot Fit Club: • Third grade students have the opportunity to

participate in Patriot Fit Club. It is held in the gym every Monday after school. Call the office or Mr. Roller for more deatils.

Spelling/Word Work In third grade students will be using a spelling, and

vocabulary program called Words Their Way. The main benefit of Words Their Way is that it

differentiates instruction allowing each child to work at their appropriate instructional level.

Students were given a spelling inventory at the beginning of the year that helped their teacher place them at their instructional level.

Students will be tested weekly on their ability to spell high frequency words. Each student has an individualized list based on their spelling knowledge.

Teacher Ease Online Gradebook Goal- Improve parent communication and support standards based grading practices.

How scores are figured and reported: Assignments/assessments are given to determine

mastery of a learning target and are scored using the 4,3,2,1 system.

The score is entered into the online grade book under the learning target.

The Path to a Score Reviewed: 1. Multiple assessments/assignments are used to

calculate a learning target score.

2. Learning target scores are then used to figure power standard scores.

3. Power standards report overall level of achievement on a key component of that subject.
