CURRICULUM EXPECTATIONS

USD 475 Vision Statement

Building a future in the global community for our students through STEM infused learning whenever, wherever!

Grant Information

USD 475 received a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Grant for the next 3 school years to implement STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning in our schools. The Braiding STEM Early initiative goal is to increase student achievement in mathematics and science K-5. The laptops will help support that goal by enhancing project based STEM activities such as conducting scientific experiments, introducing computer programing modules through LEGO, mathematics software for digital instruction, and other initiatives.

Device Usage

The laptop is an educational tool not intended for gaming, social networking or high-end computing, and all users will be expected to follow the district’s acceptable use policy as well as all other state and federal laws, board policies and school rules.

Curriculum Expectations

The laptop will allow student access to educational applications, web-based tools and many other useful sites. Schools are required to use the devices for:• GO Math supplemental math

program• Integrated technology projects each

quarter• Science and other STEM lessons• State Assessments

DEVICE INFORMATION

Device Information

General Device Information

• Although students will be issued a device for the duration of each school year, USD 475 retains full and complete ownership of the device.

• Students will receive the device, a power adaptor, and a protective case.

• Devices are being distributed to students no later than September 1st.

Returning the device• The device must be turned in at the end of

each school year unless the student moves prior to the end of the school year. Failure to turn in the device to the media center on the last day of attendance will result in the student being charged the full ($499) replacement cost. Additionally, the district will file a report of stolen property with the local law enforcement agency.

• Even if you transfer to a different school in USD 475, the device still has to be turned in at FRE. We will send the device to the new school in the district.

Privacy• The school may, without prior notice or

consent, log, supervise, access, view, monitor, and record use of student devices at any time for any reason related to the operation of the school. By using the device, the student agrees to such access, monitoring, and recording of use.

• Teachers, school administrators, and the technology department staff may use monitoring software that allows them to view the screens and activity on student devices.

Damaged, Stolen, & Lost Devices• If the device is damaged, the student will turn

the device into the teacher for repair. The district will charge for the entire repair or replacement cost of the device and/or peripherals if damage or loss occurs due to the student’s and/or parent’s/guardian’s intentional acts or as the result of negligence in handling the device. The student will receive a loaner device while the device is being repaired if one is available. Loaner devices are not allowed to be taken home.

• If a device is stolen, a report of stolen property will be made with the local law enforcement agency.

• If a device is lost, the student will be expected to replace it.
