As we begin this school year, we are recognizing that COVID will continue to be something we will need to navigate as a school community. One of the most important mitigation strategies we can put into place to keep our community healthy and our students engaged in in-person learning is to ensure that sick individuals stay home and are tested for COVID as quickly as possible. In order to ensure that staff, students, and families have timely and easy access to COVID testing, we are implementing a voluntary COVID testing program in our schools in partnership with the WI Department of Health Services. This testing program will be comprised of two parts: In-school PCR testing for symptomatic students available at each school site. Our health room staff have been trained to collect student samples in school through a nasal swab. We anticipate that results can be received in 24-48 hours. In-school testing will require parent permission (we will not test any student without parent permission and there are other community testing sites in which families can access if they prefer not to be tested at school). Drive-up/walk-up testing sites will be available at various district locations 5 days per week. These testing sites will offer antigen and PCR testing options for students and staff, along with any household members of students and staff. Drive-up testing sites will start on Wednesday September 8th, 2021. Information on testing site times and locations can be found below. A strong testing program, along with other COVID-19 prevention strategies such as mask wearing, hand washing, and physical distancing, will help prevent school outbreaks and spread of COVID-19 in the school and in the community. By providing easy access to COVID-19 testing in schools, we can identify cases early, prevent spread, and help avoid outbreaks. Having testing in schools also helps to ensure all students, teachers, and staff have access to testing and allows staff and students to focus on teaching and learning in a healthier environment. DO I NEED TO PROVIDE CONSENT FOR MY CHILD TO BE TESTED? YES! Parent/guardian consent is required for all student testing and can be done through the self-registration process below. As we begin this school year, we are recognizing that COVID will continue to be something wewill need to navigate as a school community. One of the most important mitigation strategieswe can put into place to keep our community healthy and our students engaged in in-personlearning is to ensure that sick individuals stay home and are tested for COVID as quickly aspossible.

In order to ensure that staff, students, and families have timely and easy access to COVIDtesting, we are implementing a voluntary COVID testing program in our schools in partnershipwith the WI Department of Health Services. This testing program will be comprised of twoparts:

● In-school PCR testing for symptomatic students available at each school site. Our healthroom staff have been trained to collect student samples in school through a nasal swab.We anticipate that results can be received in 24-48 hours. In-school testing will requireparent permission (we will not test any student without parent permission and there areother community testing sites in which families can access if they prefer not to be testedat school).

● Drive-up/walk-up testing sites will be available at various district locations 5 days perweek. These testing sites will offer antigen and PCR testing options for students andstaff, along with any household members of students and staff. Drive-up testing siteswill start on Wednesday September 8th, 2021. Information on testing site times andlocations can be found below.

A strong testing program, along with other COVID-19 prevention strategies such as maskwearing, hand washing, and physical distancing, will help prevent school outbreaks and spreadof COVID-19 in the school and in the community. By providing easy access to COVID-19 testingin schools, we can identify cases early, prevent spread, and help avoid outbreaks. Having testingin schools also helps to ensure all students, teachers, and staff have access to testing and allowsstaff and students to focus on teaching and learning in a healthier environment.

DO I NEED TO PROVIDE CONSENT FOR MY CHILD TO BE TESTED?

YES! Parent/guardian consent is required for all student testing and can be done through theself-registration process below. Parents/guardians also will have the ability to sign an annualconsent form that will allow school staff to complete the registration process. This form can be

found in Skyward Family Access under Online Forms on the left. Parents/guardians will benotified prior to administration of each test.

WHAT TYPE OF TEST IS THIS?

Both tests consist of a shallow nasal swab in both nostrils (similar to a q-tip circling each side ofthe nostril) and is not the deep nasal swab that some community testing sites have used.Students who are able and willing (particularly those ages 12 and up) can administer the swabthemselves with supervision of a school nurse or health assistant. For any student not able orwilling to do the swab themselves, it will be administered by the school nurse or the schoolhealth assistant.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD BE TESTED AT SCHOOL?

● If your child becomes sick while at school (your child will be sent home until test resultsare received)

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD BE TESTED AT A DRIVE-UP SITE?

● If your child becomes sick before they go to school or after they get home from school.Your child should not come to school while awaiting test results.

● If your child is a close contact seeking to return under a shortened quarantine● If your child becomes sick at school and you prefer testing occur at a test site in the

community● If other members of the household are sick and you would like to have them tested.● If you want to assess your family risk with a rapid antigen test of your asymptomatic

child or any household member (please note, a confirmatory PCR test may berecommended)
