A Message from the Parent Coordinator
Dear Parents,
As Parent Coordinator of Forest Hills High School, my role is to create a welcoming environment for parents
and serve as a liaison to address your concerns and help resolve problems.
My goals are to empower, motivate and assist parents; to create programs and events that adhere to our
curriculum and lend to an overall memorable experience. I have an open door policy and I will be more than
happy to assist you with any questions that you may have.

College and Career Planning
A college education is more important than ever before. The Department of Education of New York City is here to ensure all students graduate from high school ready for college and the 21st-century workforce.
Preparing your Child for College and Careers
Now is the right time to start thinking about college and careers. No matter what grade your child is in, you can help them begin preparing for their future.
Families of High School Students Continue doing the activities mentioned above and:
Talk to your child about getting good grades in high school and make sure your child is on track to graduate high school. Your child needs to get a high school diploma or get a GED/HSE to apply to college.
To graduate from high school, your child needs 44 credits and pass five Regents Exams.
Visit the Graduation Requirements page to learn more about credits and state exams your child needs to graduate from high school.
Encourage your child to take challenging classes and do well in those classes.
Visit at least two colleges with your child every year and attend college fairs. Take a list of questions and listen to what they think about each college.
Help your child prepare for the SATs. Some colleges also require college tests called ACTs.
Meet with your child’s school counselor and teachers, ask them to share information on colleges that match your child’s interests, paying for college, and begin planning for their future as a team.
Encourage your child to take challenging classes and do well in those classes.
Happening at Forest Hills
Title 1 Parent Meeting Principal Sherman will be holding a special
parent meeting on Tuesday 11/13/18 in re-
gard to title 1 funding which will be during
our normally scheduled PA meeting at 7:00
pm. We urge all parents to attend.
The college office is partnering with St. Jo-
seph’s to host a Financial Aid Night for
Families. This will take place in the Audito-
rium on Tuesday November13th immedi-
ately after the PA meeting.
We have collected 2417 lunch forms so far
and still have to collect 1438. We are cur-
rently at 50.7% Title 1 for next year. To
qualify for Title 1 status we need to be at
60%. Thanks for encouraging our students
to return the lunch forms.
We discussed the CEP goals; the mosquito
problem; strategies to improve safety in
our school; the Magic Closet and the base-
men staff room.
We will request the City to spray our area
for mosquitos and will request quotes to
putting screens on the windows of all
classrooms and offices. It was suggested
that the school sends someone to make a
complaint at the local community board.

Check your pupil path daily to see if any
changes have been made to your schedule
Lunch period is not a “free period” and
that it is every student’s responsibility to
be in the cafeteria during lunch. There is

On Thursday October 11, 2018, several members of the Forest Hills Girl Up Club attended a special event for International Day of the Girl on the Today Show. We were invited on behalf of Girl Up Inc. This event featured an interview with former First Lady, Michelle Obama, and musical performances by Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Meghan Trainor. In addition, guests supermodel Karlie Kloss and actress Zendaya spoke on behalf of female empowerment. The Today Show hosted these incredibly influential females to commemorate International Day of the Girl’s year-long effort to develop partners and investors who will contribute to causes that will provide opportunities for females to gain employment all over the world.
During this event, Michelle Obama announced her partnership with Global Girls Alliance, which is part of her world-wide initiative to promote girls’ education. The Forest Hills Girl Up Club members are honored to have been a part of a historic moment in female activism and to have witnessed such inspiring women promoting the same national and international causes that the Forest Hills Club members support every day.

大學入學和就業計劃
大學教育比以往任何時候都更加重要。 紐約市教育局在此
確定所有學生從高中畢業準備大學入學和二十一世紀勞動
力。
準備孩子大學入學和就業

Orientación universitaria y vocacional
La educación universitaria es ahora más importante que nunca. El Departamento de Educación de la Ciudad de Nueva York está aquí para garantizar que todos los estudiantes se gradúen de la escuela secundaria y estén preparados para la universidad y el mercado laboral del siglo XXI. Qué sucede en Forest Hills
Reunión de padres del Título 1
El director Sherman celebrará una reunión es-
pecial para padres el martes 13 de noviembre
de 2018 con respecto a la asignación de fondos
de Título 1 durante nuestra reunión regular de
la PA a las 7:00 p.m. Alentamos a todos los
padres a asistir.
La oficina universitaria está trabajando conjun-
tamente con St. Joseph para organizar una No-
che de ayuda financiera para las familias. Esta
tendrá lugar en el auditorio el martes 13 de
noviembre, inmediatamente después de la re-
unión de la PA.
Hasta el momento, hemos recaudado 2417 for-
mularios para el almuerzo, y todavía nos faltan
1438. Actualmente estamos en un 50.7% del

cuela enviara a alguna persona para formular
un reclamo ante la junta comunal local. Se
agradece que se presenten voluntarios para
esto.

El jueves 11 de octubre de 2018, varios miembros del club Girl Up de Forest Hills asistieron a un evento especial por el Día Internacional de la Niña en el Today Show.
